Well made, as usual. The heel lock helps a ton! Super comfy, and no break in time. Great tread for slick areas.

I am not an avid hiker but was looking for some boots that would support my ankles when we do occasionally go. I tried Ahnu, Merrill, and Northface and BY FAR Keens were the most comfortable and supportive. I have bony ankles, and the other shoes hurt that area of my legs. Keens offered good firm support without digging into my legs like the Merrills and Northface did (and the Ahnus had almost NO ankle support.) These won't be the prettiest boots you ever bought with that knobby rubber toe they have, but if you are looking for a great boot that is decent looking, you can't beat Keens. And I did try other styles of Keens. These Gypsum Mids felt the best on my feet and ankles. Oh, and I wear a 8 to 8 1/2 in regular shoes. Size 9 fit me best with thicker socks in the Keens. And if you have skinny feet you will need thick socks - there is TONS of toe room in these shoes.

Out-of-the-box comfortable! No break in period, went on an hour walk in the woods with my dog and these boots were great! Have had them for a few weeks now, warm, waterproof and very comfortable!

I bought these during the summer to break them in for Winter wear. I wore these around the house for a weekend and thought it was broken in enough, but the ankle cuff area dug into my ankle when I had the laces taut. I love the speed lacing (one swoop and I tie) but find that slipperiness of the lace material, despite its texture, mandates tying a double bow only because I trek (commute) to work 24 miles a week. I endure plantar fasciitis so I m okay the first 4 miles, but after a day s work walking my entire shift, the last 4 mile walk home is rough. The inner soles are firm and odor-free even after all the walking I ve done after my work shift is over. Love the fit in the foot area and the roomy toe box. I typically wear mid-weight toe socks but have worn heavier weight merino wool socks with these boots. Waterproof and WARM especially when hiking non-stop. Snow bank hopping isn t suggested unless you wear gaiters since the snow does find its way over the tops of these boots if you re 8 in the snow. The neutral colors I got are great for hiding the grime I get into while hiking so these boots look brand new even after two seasons of wear. Great traction on rough terrain and especially sure-footed on snow. This is my first pair of Keen footwear but not the last pair. I ll be buying another pair for my bug out bag, and hopefully from Zappos, since my outside purchase took several weeks to arrive in the mail.

Great hiking boot that I'll use for winter commuting (hiking) to work (bus stops and full 8 mile hikes to work). Broke these in around the house and really didn't need to. The stiffest part was around the ankle only because it's new. Wore higher crew socks from Injinji (my feet sweat a lot and toe socks keep them from blistering) midweight and felt no issues with the ankle part of the boot. Rugged lug sole, I was able to walk all types of terrain through two cities to get to work without a misstep, fall, or ankle-twisting. These are surprisingly lightweight and were "broken in" in less than a weekend. I opted for the Gargoyle coloring so wear and tear and dirt don't show as much. Keen typically runs one-half size smaller for me. I wear a size 7 in shoes and boots but ordered these in 7.5 and they fit perfectly (my feet don't swim in them). Fast shipping as always. This was a great buy!

Nice boots. Light, sturdy, comfortable. I have a short wide foot, usually wear 5.5, so the 6 fits perfectly.

I bought a pair of Keen hiking boots for myself last year and loved them. My daughter needed new boots and started Marine Academey this fall. I was looking for something with ankle support that was waterproof as well, as she would be wading in shallow water. These fit her perfect and she says they are awesome for her field work. She only wished her waders were as comfortable.

I ordered these and several other Keen hiking boots in different sizes to replace an old pair of LL Bean boots that were never very comfortable. These boots were fantastic on a recent trip to Yellowstone NP. Did a lot of hiking in a variety of weather conditions and my feet felt great the whole time. Honestly, it didn't even occur to me to think about my feet; that's how comfortable they were. I have very wide feet, but thanks to Keen's wide toe box, they were perfect in my normal size (10). For whatever reason - and as other reviewers suggested, I did need to go up a size in the other Keens I tried.

I've never owned hiking boots and I bought these to climb Quandary Peak in CO. I didn't have break in time beforehand, but I definitely didn't need it. These are the most comfortable boots ever! The support for my foot and ankle was incredible (and parts of this hike were not easy with extremely jagged rock edges). I barely felt the jagged rocks below, the grip was amazing even on the slippery and unsturdy rocks, and after the total ascent and descent of 6.5 hours my feet felt wonderful (I couldn't say the same for my calves or my knees!) Even though I cannot compare to any other boot I do not think I need to. I couldn't have asked for more out of these especially first using them with such an aggressive adventure.

I am very happy with these boots...no need for break- in. Love the higher boot top for more ankle support. I ordered 1/2 size larger for perfect fit.

I bought these boots to hike in Ireland and they surpassed my expectations. My usual hiking area in the Comeraghs was a BOG after it rained everyday for 10 days, yet my feet stayed dry. Unbelievable traction on slippery rocks!!! Im usually an 8-8 1/2 and the 8 1/2 boot gave me plenty of space to comfortably fit in a thick pair of wool socks. I dont usually like to hike in boots without somewhat trying them out (and breaking in) first, but these hit the trail right out the box and were super comfortable! Definitely my to-go-to hiking shoe (and brand) from now on!

I bought these boots several weeks ago and have been wearing them while walking in the evenings. I plan on using them when I go to conservation camp this summer. They feel great and there has been no break in time. I had to send back to first pair due to sizing issues and when the second pair was sent, I was able to have both pairs at the same time to make the correct sizing decision. Zappos' return policy is great. I hope the boots are great for a week of traveling, hiking and kicking around my state.

Yep, everyone is right! order a half size larger. I was hoping that my size would work as that was the only one available. The fit was too perfect, leaving no room for hiking. Other than that, it was good looking, well made and comfortable.

It took me a while to find the right pair of hiking boots. I read many Zappos posts before this purchase, Keen Gypsum had good reviews. The boots have a neutral style, sturdy, and easy to wear without being heavy. My feet are sensitive, narrow, high arches, typically between 7.5 and 8. They say to get 0.5 size bigger, so I decided to buy a 8.5. There is plenty of toe room and don't rub anywhere. In winter, I can definitely wear thick socks. If you plan on hiking long distances (3 miles or more, I would suggest buying a more comfortable insert. I walk the dog in them when it rains, feet stay dry. I plan to hike in these boots during all four seasons.

Very nice boots. Comfortable and supportive. I have narrow feet and once I put my own insoles in they fit fine.

Love these boots. Bought a pair after having to return a pair of the Keen Bryce's. These fit my foot perfectly and just like all my Keen shoes (and my husband's Keens) they don't need any break-in period. And, like all Keen's you have to order a half size up from what you were in other brands.

I wore these to the White Mountains in NH. Like everyone said, they didn't need breaking in. They were airy, my feet didn't have blisters, didn't feel sore at all! They did really well on the rocky ascent and even in brooks. I could run around easily and would take a trip with them anywhere!

I like these shoes! I got the midnight color first, but there was a defect in the right side pinkie toe area where the material bunched up. When I returned and purchased the orange trim pair were on sale. I now have them on my feet and am very satisfied. Will not be returning this pair. Oh, I ordered the Oregon's at the same time and am keeping these over the Oregon's.

I ordered four boots to compare. My needs are a wide toe box, good support, and comfort. Keen gypsum mid in 9.5m (I usually wear 9): Very comfy boot with nice toe room, but not enough lacing points. It would be hard to adjust the tightness and keep them right. Arch support OK. A soft boot that might not last long. Sent them back. Asolo stynger GTX in 9m: very stiff and supportive, though not painfully stiff. The toes felt okay but no wiggle room. Easy to lace to correct tension. Sent them back. Lowa renegade in 9.5m: very good boot, seven lacing points, not as much toe room as I like, sturdy leather. Sent them back. The winner: Salomon Quest 4d GTX. The most expensive, but I got a closeout color. Superb fit, roomy toe box, arch support OK (still using the insoles it came with), broke in after one day, seven sturdy metal lace points, with the ankle one having grooves to catch the lace. They don't claim to go off trail, but I took them across heavy rock for six miles or so the second day. I walked up to ten miles a day on my vacation, with a day pack only, and while my rotten feet did hurt, I don't think the boys caused it.

The boots are great - good traction. I wish that, when they said "green" they meant something a little greener than what I would call "refrigerator yellow." I've always been consistent in Keen sizes but these were a little short - had to send them back for the next size.

I have been searching for replacements for my worn out Keen Red Rock boots which were soft out of the box, had a narrow heel and very roomy toebox. These are stiffer, higher, and the toebox is not nearly as roomy. But, after a week of walking in them, I can recommend them to those of you with bunions, hammertoes, or other similar bad feet. Many thanks to Zappos who kept the boots flying through the air until I found a pair that I could wear!

I love the look of these boots and most Keens actually but they just never seem to fit my feet properly. I broke my foot awhile back and it runs wide now but these weren't even comfortable on the non damaged foot. They seemed to pinch in on the heel and there was two much movement in the toe area. If I kept them there would have been plenty of blisters. I kept the Merrell Siren instead.

I've just purchased the Keen Gypsum. Verdict is still out. I love the look and the width is fine, but I normally wear a 10 or 10.5. I purchased the 11 based on comments that the boots run small and my toes still feel a little too close to the end. Maybe I like a little extra toe space. Not sure what to do as the men's boot is just a little too roomy.
