I purchased a pair of Mephistos in Paris some time ago. I was disappointed at first because the high collar rubbed my ankle causing a blister. But after breaking them in with some mole skin attached, they became wonderfully comfortable. No such problem with the Mephisto Hike. It was comfortable from the get go. The leather quality and construction is superb inside and out. And the air cushioned inner sole makes the lightweight Hike feel like your favorite pair of slippers. Thanks, Zappos for notifying me when they were restocked.

This shoe is very uncomfortable. You can feel every pebble. Not Mephisto’s best. I can only wear this shoe in a carpeted floor. Very uncomfortable when walking on concrete. Shock absorber causes foot to wobble during walking gait. A waste of money.

Made of excellent leather; quite light and badly designed. The heel is too high for the ball of the foot so you get to slap the ground with each step.

Just got these yesterday and had to send back today. Was disappointed that the tongue of the shoe rubbed and squeaked when walking around in the house. Have always had great luck with Mephisto, but these just didn't work at all.

By far the most comfortable shoe I've ever had on my feet. From Day 1, they fit like a glove. I bought them stateside and took them to France for 10 days and walked on numerous surfaces - vineyards, olive groves, castles, Roman ruins, cobblestones, city streets and sidewalks. I used them for everything but evening wear. Great shoe and the favorite of my four pairs of Mephistos.

I walk 5 miles a day, and I was looking for a high quality casual shoe that looked more conservative than a running shoe. I've worn Mephisto Match shoes for several years and I love them, so I wanted to give the Hike a try. I was able to locate them in one of my neighborhood department stores, so I tried on a pair. I liked the look, and loved the fit. It seemed slightly larger than the Match in the same size, but it was very comfortable when walking on carpet. Then I took a few steps on a hard surface floor. Wow! The raised portion of the center of the shoe's heels felt like sharp objects poking me in the rear of my feet. I only wore the shoes for a few minutes, but I don't think I could ever get used to the heel of these shoes.

These are really nice shoes. Ultra-comfortable right out of the box. High quality leather and top craftsmanship. The of-air footbed is really something - not just a gimmick; it wicks moisture and feet sty dry and comfortable all day. Some reviews fault the heel of the sole as having a protrusion that feels odd, and it does feel different but I got used to it in a couple of days and it is designed to cushion the step and protect ankles, knees, hips, and vertebrae from fatigue and shock from walking. I buy it! These are really comfortable and very good looking shoes. I typically wear a 9.5 in US shoes I got the 9 US (8.5 European) and they fit perfectly.

I had a pair of Mephisto Match for years. That was the best investment that I ever made. Now I hear that Mephisto Hike is like an old pair of slippers... They are so comfortable. And cheaper.

Read some of the negatives about this shoe, but I love them. Comfortable, look good, and good support. I like them as much as my Matches.

My original pair served me well for many years. I like this pair but am disappointed that the sole on this pair does not seem near as thick.

My feet are most comfortable in Mephistos which have a foot well large enough to accommodate my orthotics. This shoe is comfortable, a bit lighter and less expensive from my usual choice "Match." Zappos always has given me outstanding service not only when buying Mephistos but also when I have had issues with other selections and needed to return them. Thus I am not hesitant to try something new.

Sizing on these shoes run somewhat wide. I normally wear a B width, and found this, while comfortable, a bit loose-wearing.

Felt a half to full size larger compared to most shoes I wear. Would not recommend, especially at this price point!

I have had the Mephisto Hike for a year and a half. I have wasted thousands of dollars on shoes and have generally been satisfied with Mephistos. I consider Mephisto my go to brand. The Hike, however, with its raised shock absorbers, is simply uncomfortable. It feels like chopsticks poking your heel every time you take a step. Instead of the pressure being spread across the whole heel, the pressure is centered and pointed in the middle of the heel. I just got through 4 hours of walking on the Hike and I think I have had it with this pair. It is the one Mephisto I regret buying. This pair of shoes hurts.

Nice leather. Sloppy fit. Feels uncomfortable to walk in due to the "knob" on the heel portion of the sole.
