Had to send back two shoes of another brand as they had flaws. I was concerned that these might be too heavy, but that has not been a problem.

I love these boots! The second week I owned them I climbed Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina. It was a muddy, rotten mess because it had rained for a week straight. If I wasn't scrambling over bare rock then I was stomping through a perpetual mud puddle up to nearly my ankles. 16 hours and many miles later, I arrived back at my truck with dry, comfortable feet. I couldn't believe I made it all that way without so much as a wet toe, an unduly sore spot, or a blistered heel. These boots are rugged, durable (owned them for close to a year now and they look pretty much the same as the day I bought them), and stylish. My only complaint with them is only a personal preference for laces that stay in their loops all the way to the tops of the boots, and these have to be popped back in the top two loops whenever you're putting them on. No biggie. I wear these for daily use and occasional hiking and couldn't be happier with my purchase. My recommendation: buy them.

I have hard to fit feet...Men's 7. I have tried 6 different hiking boots prior to this model but between its forward inclined sole, roomy toebox and good ankle support. I've found the right match. I'm looking forward to trying these out in Yosemite this fall.
I'd also recommend:
Timberland..just as comfortable but slower to dry when wet.

I am writing this review after wearing a pair of these boots in almost every outdoor situation for nearly 3 years. I have put on about 200 miles of backpacking, and another couple hundred in hiking with no pack. I have narrow feet with high arches. These boots fit my feet perfectly. I have never had a blister or even a hotspot. Virtually no break-in time. The insoles are comfortable and I can go very long periods with no discomfort. The mid-soles of these boot are a bit on the soft side. More suited for hiking than carrying a load. If you are carrying a load and going over rocks, you will feel them on your feet. The boots are very light. I have done many creek crossings in them, and they have never leaked. These are the best hiking boots I have ever had. I'm on Zappos right now to upgrade to another pair of Salomons. The best advice about buying any boot is to find a brand that fits your foot well, and stick with it. If these fit your feet, you won't be disappointed in their quality.

Very happy with the performance these Salomon Discovery's provided. Just back from a trip to Montana with lots of walking, hiking, and fishing and even had them on for 48 straight hours due to the long drive and no complaints at all. Great grip while scaling river rocks, great traction. Also the most important is how they kept my feet dry while fishing river and lakeside with stepping in the water a bit. Didn't submerge them, but definitely enough to where a lesser boot would have wet my feet. Also good rock hopping on the rivers, with stepping in the water here and there...great dryness. Breathability also good...like I said , had them on two straight days and feet were fine. All in all a good boot at a great price. Would definitely buy them again. It's a tough little boot...lightweight, walking around town or hiking Glacier Nat'l Park. I used them extensively and glad I bought them.

These shoes are great so far. The are snug on my feet. Make sure you waterproof if you are going through wet grass. Good traditions. I wore them for 3 days camping and were very comfortable. No. Blisters. Shoe laces come untied easily with out double knot. Strong tread and toe. I had keen before but they were too wide and I had to pull too much of the center over to fit.

I highly recommend the GTX. I rush ordered them right before the big snows hit Chicago. Great solid platform. Hiked several 4 mile loops. They are warm, waterproof and breathable. Even in the below zero weather they did the job without any extra socks. They look good I even wear them to the office. I get a lot of questions on Salomon as they are not as well known in the Midwest. Great buy, you get what you pay for, and you get a lot with this boot.

I'm a runner and love the salomom brand running shoes. I thought I'd give the hiking boots a try. Accustomed to ordering this brand a half size bigger for best fit. Love this boot. Very breathable with great support. Easy to break in. In the Hindu Kush right now and will be hiking the Himalayas in 2 weeks. These boots are ready to go!

Bought these a few years back. Wore them for hiking and work. However, my one them developed an annoying squeak. Overall, I love these boots with many unfavorable miles. They've kept my feet dry and warm from rain or snow. The boots may look quite heavy, but they are very light during long hikes. Sadly they're broken in and still structurally intact, but the squeaking is forcing me to buy another pair, because it wouldn't work in my line of work.

Bought these boots to hike the Rheinsteig in Germany and they worked great. Very comfortable and supportive on the trail and light enough to wear in town and even on the plane (I didn't want to try to find space for them in my luggage). Only problem was that after I'd had them a month or so, one boot developed a squeak that got louder and more insistent as the trip went on. Salomon wasn't able to give me any tips on quieting the squeak, so I was forced to return the boots for a replacement pair.

When I first put it on, I felt great but suddenly one of the studs for the shoe lace came off just less than 2 months after use. I am very disappointed at such inferior quality from a reputable brand.

I had 2 previous pairs of this boot made in China. They were heavier and effectively waterproof. They wore out and I recently ordered a new pair. This one was made in Vietnam. It was immediately obvious that it was much lighter. This all seemed ok -- the fit and look was much the same as the previous boot. The issue came when walking through wet grass on a recent hike. After about 30 minutes my feet were completely wet. This never happened with my previous boots. I've now had these boots a few months and tried them out a few other times in wet weather -- every time my feet got soaked. The waterproofing is no good in this latest version.
