Makes great coffee if you want to deal with not being able to read the water level, especially if you are under 5'2, water dripping down the back of the pot when you raise the lid, no hinge on carafe requiring lid lift off, tiny fill area way in the back, etc., etc Disappointed since I splurged on this pot instead of a Mr Coffee special for much less. First time I ever treated me to a good pot. It aggravates me though I am adjusting a little.

Bought DCC-1200 model almost 2 years ago, works fine but several drawbacks: lid to carafe must be removed to fill, awkward small area for filling with water, useless gauge inside the maker, takes more coffee grounds to make a good-tasting cup than other brands, pause-n-serve feature useless because first cup is too strong and subsequent cups too weak, takes a long time to brew compared to other brands of coffee makers. Does make a decent cup of coffee, but so do other brands that are much less expensive. Have been reading recent reviews on consumer report sites where the units spontaneously smoke, burn, and melt, fire hazard, will be unplugging mine from now on when not in use and will not leave it unattended when using. This will render the programmable feature useless, as well as the clock. Nice looking, but stainless is only the color, it's actually plastic. Will not purchase another one of this brand when this one quits working. Just not worth the high price for an average job.

After a short bit of time- you end up with coffee overflowing to the counter into drawers. Mr. Is better than this piece of junk! Nothing like this mess prior to your first cup of coffee. I have tried everything and now it goes into the trash. Oh, and when it did work, the coffee was never hot enough.

I bought this because of the high rating and I hate it. There is only a small area to put water in. You have to take lid off caraffe to fill with water no flip lid if you know what I mean, no stronger brew cycle. I cannot compare it to my old Micheal Graves Black and Decker. Plus it takes cone filters not your regular type. After only three days I am giving it away. Back to research.
