I have always worn size 13 Reef Fannings. Bur these are just samller, visually seen when held against a Fanning sandal, both of the same size.

As close to an all-purpose athletic flip-flop as I've seen (this year). I need a pair for walking around on the beach as well as walking on NYC's hard hot summer sidewalks that won't leave my feet feeling like they've been beaten by hammers at the end of the day. These are replacing my Fanning 02's (I miss them) from last year and so far so good. Totally cushion all over, but especially on the heel. Water drains right out, and the soft strap gave me zero blisters straight out of the box. They're totally lightweight and well made, although these are the first Reef's I've had that seem to run a half-size small. It would be nice if there was a leather option, but it's nice these are so waterproof.

I found these to be much harder to break in than another pair of lower cost Reef flops that I own. They are comfortable, but eat my toes up. Just be prepared to have a break in period. I wear an 8.5 and the 9 was just right.

These fit great and are very comfortable. However after about four months of use the hard plastic mid sole had a small crack in it. Zappos' customer service is awesome, as they offered a full refund.

I dig these flip-flops. Easily, the most comfortable things I've ever put on my feet. Definitely recommend them.

This is a really nice thong sandal that took a couple of days to "break in" to the point of blissful comfort. I don't know what to rave about first: the quality materials and construction, the exquisite comfort, or how devastatingly sexy the jet-black sandal looks on the naked foot. And, mind you, I'm not a teenager penning this, but a forty-nine-year-old man. Reef has really outdone itself with this utterly delicious flip-flop.

These are great slippers (flip flops)! They do run small. So if you wear a size 9 in other Reef shoes you might want to order a size 10. We did and they fit great. We have ordered several other Reef slippers in a size 9 which fit perfectly but this type is just a little smaller. We had to return the first pair we bought because they were small, but Zappos made that experience painless and crazy fast. (Best company out there!) This type is the most comfortable type of slipper Reef makes.

In short, these are better than Reef Fannings and are easily one of the very best flip flops on the market, if not the best. I've owned them over a year and here's what I love about them: 1) The cushioning/suspension system really works and is perfectly adjusted -- the cushioning isn't mushy but it does absorb shock. You can wear these all day in perfect comfort. 2) The arch support is superb. These sandals have a nicely contoured footbed that further ads to the comfort and provides a solid level of arch support. Again, you can wear these things all day in perfect comfort, even if you're middle-aged with less than stellar knees. 3) The strap won't stretch out. My Reef Fannings would stretch out on me and the flip flops would end up getting too floppy on my feet. That never happens with the X-S-1. The plasticy looking inserts in the straps really keep them from stretching out. 4) The footbed itself will mold to your feet over time. Not in the extreme way that a pair of Birkenstocks might, but they do get more comfortable with wear. 5) The non-slip and non-marking outsole is just about ideal, and looks a lot more like a boat shoes siping than a hiking boots lugs. Frankly, I need a flip flop that'll stay secure in a wet environment and these do. I don't need a flip flop that'll pick up rocks in some overly-rugged vibram outsole. 6) The water drainage system is actually pretty cool, when you end up needing it. I don't normally get my flip flops fully submerged in the water, but the drainage system on these things works as advertised. A lot of people will balk at paying this price for a flip flop. And that's just the wrong way to think about it. These things have all the build quality and comfort of a mid-tier running shoe, and no one would balk at paying this much for a sneaker. Get a pair; you'll be glad you did.

This is my third copy of this sandal. It is very casual but I absolutely love the cushion and arch support. The comfort is the best.

The Reef X-S-1 in the "murdered" (black-on-black) color scheme is an EXTREMELY comfortable sandal that is great fun to wear and looks really, really stylish, masculine, and sexy. I can traipse all over shopping centers and such on a 95-degree day without the least discomfort or between-the-toes chafing or any such minor tortures. Plus, it's absolutely thrilling at age 51 (I do look quite young, admittedly) to be stopped by twentysomething women who tell me how sharp my sandals look with my black T-shirt and black shorts and my, frankly, reasonably muscular gastrocnemii. Oh, I didn't mean that the women offering compliments actually said 'gastrocnemii', just that they are pretty decently muscled calves. Plus, will it hurt you to learn a nice Latin word?

The X-S-1 is a terrific-looking sandal that I enjoy wearing. The glossy, jet-black pattern is really eye-catching, and a lot of heads turn to look at them. Despite my 50+ age, I feel almost like a teenager when I wear them with an ultra-unique T and reasonably short denim shorts. My rating of "moderate arch support" is based upon the fact that my feet require no supplementary arch support.

These are a little more pricy than Fannings but the are worth it. These sandals stay firm after wearing them a while where I find Fannings to feel loose strength. I have purchased over 10 pairs of Fannings over the years but I will be sticking to these from now on.

Recently purchased Reef X-S-1. Have worn them almost every day. Having worn Reef Fannings exclusively for years I just wanted to try something new. I can confidently say these are the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn. Great arch support and cushioning, even more so than the Fannings. I highly recommend them. The only thing I can not comment on is long term use but I have never had any issues with any Reef products.

Just got my 2nd pair of XS1s. After wearing reefs for the last 15 years, I never thought they could get better than the fanning/vision/hamik/jbay, but I wore my 1st XS1s so much, the tread is almost going flat. Many a river trip, and just the toe area is scraped up some, but always comfy as hell, can't wait for this new green pair! Make this current pair #5 that I keep in my rotation. Best ones yet!

I am extremely happy with my Reef sandals. I already owned a pair of Slap II when I bought the X-S-1: truth be told, I bought the X-S-1 solely because they looked sharp. The two pairs of sandals fit differently, though both are extremely comfortable. When I wear the X-S-1, I feel like my feet are pointed downward; when I wear the Slap II, I feel like my feet are pointing straight ahead. Also, the straps on the X-S-1 are more snug. I'd have to say that, even if the X-S-1 looks sexier, the Slap II is a superior walking sandal.

I've had probably about 10 pairs of Reef sandals and wear them most days. This one definitely provides more cushion for your heel. So I've found them to be more comfortable for long walks. I don't like how the plastic spring system extends beyond the inner and outer sole at the back. I've had them for a few weeks now and they are holding up nicely. These definitely run small so get a size larger than you normally wear.

These are the most expensive Reefs I've ever bought and it was money poorly spent. What they amount to is platform sandals. I figured they'd have some give to them but that's not the case. Lacking is the soft feel of the the Fanning and in it's place is hard plastic. These are evidence that more is sometimes less.

I've owned at least 10 pairs of the Mick Fanning Reefs, which these are based on, and they're awesome slippers. They're my everyday walk-around, I wear them to work, to class, everywhere. So when I saw that they were combining the design with awesome running shoe technology, I had to buy a pair. Unfortunately the quality was nowhere near what I've come to expect from reef. After 3 months the support was completely gone, the "shock absorption" areas were flat, the footbeds had developed HUGE cracks in them, and the thong pulled out of the shoe! I figured if I spent more I'd get a good quality reef product with some cool tech. What I got was a Walmart quality product, with a lot of flash, but no substance. Very poor.

I bought these for my fiance in July of 2011. He found them very comfy at first. They have been worn outside 1-2 times a week for small things, they have been worn inside about 10 minutes a day. There is very little to no wear on the bottom of the shoes, which is good. Except the tops/sides are coming apart and wearing out. The strip between the toes is wearing out and coming up in layers, the sides are peeling etc. This is not what I would expect from shoes at this price. These shoes have not been worn excessively. If I had purchased these elsewhere, I would think they were a knockoff, they are not up to Reef quality or possibly Reef has slipped in quality. This was his first pair of Reefs, as he usually wore Nike. He won't be buying Reefs again.
