I've admired this bag for a while. I held off for a while because of the price and then finally bit the bullet. I just couldn't help it. I had to have this bag! And I must say and it is as beautiful in person as it looks in pictures. I get compliments on the bag all the time. It is just gorgeous! Here's the problem, though - the corners along the bottom of the sides (along the seams) started to fray within 2-3 weeks of using the bag. The leather is just sort of disintegrating. I am heartbroken, because I have to return it and probably shouldn't try another one. I just noticed a similar complaint from someone else's review here. This problem can't be a coincidence. Frye why? This bag is way too expensive for this to be happening. Very, very sad. :(

This was a bag I too had looked at and wish-listed for awhile. Loved the crackled leather and of course multi-toned grommets on the front. Design-wise my immediate dislikes were the lack of adequate closure. The center magnets are on tabs that must be aligned perfectly, don't just pull together and won't stay closed if the bag is half-full or more. The side snaps also don't stay closed well. The second issue I had was immediately there were flakes of the crackled leather everywhere (dust bag, then kitchen chair where I leave my purse and finally on my iPhone screen, and due to the antiscratch film there, they need to be picked off with my nail). I said whatever to these annoyances and just started to carry the bag immediately! It's extremely spacious, but does get heavy quickly. Well I'm ultimately writing here because after 3 weeks of carrying this bag one end of the strap lost its securing pin and came off the loop securing it to the purse. I was on a horse sleigh ride and all contents of my purse just dumped out in the snow! It took me a minute to realize the strap had lost its crucial piece and there was just a hole where it should have been. No way I could have found that in the dark of night, so I'm off to the shoe repair man to see the damages. I will add, beauty and style aside, no bag that is in this price range should behave that way, distressed or not. I own several Frye boots and respect the name, but admit they've gotten ballsy with their prices of late. Further research on Zappos.com showed reviews complaining of peeling leather and frayed edges...maybe it's not meant to be?!

I love Frye; however, this particular handbag is a huge disappointment. I also have the boots and the flats that go with this handbag. While the boots and flats are made of a good quality leather the handbag is not. Initially, the Deborah Shoulder looks great but the "leather" is almost tissue thin on the front and the back. I'm not certain if it is even real leather on the front and back. After minimal wear and tear, that "distressed" "leather" on the front and back will also result in tears all over, exposing the thin foam lining. I also treat my leather very well and all of my handbags are stored in a felt bag when not in use. I called Frye directly about this problem and the service agent was not the least surprised by my complaint.

The uber distressed parts of the bag are too distressed and are disintegrating. I love this bag but for the money it should last longer than this. I am sad to return it. I finally found the perfectly sized bag for what I need.

I have been looking for a stylish tote bag for a while. I was able to get the Frye boots called Deborah on sale and when I saw this bag, I knew it was meant to be mine. Very roomy and easy to use and find your stuff. It has a very distressed leather surface with wonderful mini-studs.

I'll start with the good. Fell in love with the look of the bag and the looks lived up to my expectations. It is roomy enough to carry everything I need and have enough room to tuck in a light sweater, making it perfect tote size. But I would not buy this bag again. Like others, I'm dissatisfied with the closure and can't count how many times I've dumped the entire contents of the bag all over. The distressed leather is so rough, that if you have a delicate sweater on, the bag will literally "chew it up" as it moves naturally while you move. The metal studs are what make the bag, but they get caught on everything, and have snagged several nice blouses and shirts. I've had my bag about 10 months and already I can tell that the handle material is completely cracked. It's like it wasn't built to carry much weight-but when you have a bag this big, of course you're going to carry a lot of weigh in it. I agree with the reviewer who said Frye was getting a little ballsy with their pricing. I'm going to be shopping for a bag again soon because it will be worn out. And usually I can easily make a bag last two years.

This bag is absolutely beautiful. It sits on my shoulder perfectly. It is big enough to hold everything I need without being huge. Here's the problem: I've only been carrying it since Tuesday (today is Thursday) and the part that sits against my hip is already peeling. That is totally disgusting for a bag at this price.

I love the look of this bag! I had similar issues to others here, but the Frye Refurbishing Center (found on their website) will actually repair any of their products, even if they were not purchased directly from them. I paid for shipping the handbag to them, and they repaired and shipped back for free within a few weeks. I have had no problems since!

It is misleading to praise this handbag for comfort and style when it cannot function as a handbag. You will not keep it long enough to consider it a handbag. I also purchased this expensive rip-off and it began to tear and disintegrate within two weeks. The problem is the exterior leather is actually so absurdly thin that it is almost more gauze-like and this is why everyone who purchases this outrageous rip-off will ultimately return it for holes and tears. While the handle is a sturdy leather it is not representative of the balance of the handbag. Huge disappointment. I own the Donna studded boots. Why not make a handbag entirely with the same leather used for the boots?! Frye owes an apology to all of us who bought this handbag.

I chose to ignore all the reviews I read about this bag looking like it is falling apart as soon as you get it. I made a mistake, and they were right! (My husband would love to have me say that to him...never!). Although it looks really cool in the pictures, it feels like it is falling apart, and actually looks really cheap when you put it on your shoulder (and it ain't cheap!). I expected more from Frye, but live and learn. This is going back.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I purchased this bag 2 years ago. I absolutely love it. The leather is beautiful and durable. I have it in Charcoal and it's my go to fall bag. It's large, with inside pockets. The straps are long enough to fit easily over a heavy jacket. I hesitated on the price , but so glad I purchased.

I have had this bag in chocolate for about 2 years now and cannot say enough good things about it. While I rotate through my bags often, this one is a go to I use often because the color goes with a lot. Much nicer in person than in pictures. Well-worn distressed leather and mine is not showing any signs of wear like other reviewers on the handles. I would love the boots to match! Also wish this were still available in the grey color, as I would probably order another one.

I purchased this bag in Charcoal at least two years ago. It is still my favorite go to bag. It is gorgeous and the more you use it the better it looks. The leather is so soft! The only complaint that I have/had is that it does not come with feet on it. But in all honesty it turns out that it does not need them. This is my favorite go to bag by far!

This bag is amazingly gorgeous! I LOVE IT! I get compliments on it wherever I do, and plan on keeping it around for quite some time... it's a classic. Not cheap, but in my opinion, worth it. Couldn't be more thrilled!

I got this bag on serious discount, so I was not risking much. But I have found that it has become my go-to bag for most days. I did not think that I would like an open tote without a proper closure, but on most days for just throwing things in to go to work it is easier than fussing with a more secure closure. A book, a magazine, my running clothes, and then cell phone and keys go in the slip pockets and I am done. Also I get a lot of compliments on the unique look of the bag, which I love. It is very slouchy. The leather, as others have said, is very soft and thin and distressed. In some parts on my bag it feels more like suede. I have not had any problems with the leather breaking down, though - in fact, it has held up really well over the last six months that I have been using it nearly daily. I have been pleasantly surprised by this bag.

I love this bag! My favorite by far. Just the right size and I can find my keys. I hang them on the key fob inside.

Great roomy bag - just know that you are getting a factory-distressed vintage looking bag from Frye. They started the distressed look for you and it will undoubtedly become more distressed over time. If you don't want it to "age" too quickly, it's a good idea to start conditioning it frequently. Love the feel and slouch of the bag. I wanted a bag that looked casual and "thrown around" and this works great for my lifestyle (casual/edgy, parent).

This bag is spectacular - every time I have gone somewhere carrying it I get compliments - even from strangers. It holds everything: wallet, insulin test kit, makeup bag sunglasses, reading glasses, notebook, knitting, snacks! I just wish you also had the larger tote bag version so I could have an even bigger bag like this for my brief bag for work! One tiny item: the magnetic closure is awkward - wish it was either dog-leash clip or had the magnets inside the top of the bag instead of on tabs that have to be lined up.

Drop dead beautiful bag! Well worth the price! Thanks Zappos for carrying such great Fry products and having such a great return policy. You bet this one won't be coming back! I'll just hide the bill from my husband.

I have two now and I use this one as a brief case because its too large for a purse. It is so distressed that it looks 30 years old which is a look I wanted. I want another frye purse in a pale blue. Any thoughts.

I would have to give this purse 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to a 4th star because there are no halves. The reason for 3.5 stars is that the metallic distressed leather started flaking off upon arrival. It sloughed leather all over my shoulder, and onto things within my purse. I contacted customer service via email about this, if it was normal, but I've had no response. Now, I just noticed that the stitching on the handle was not even, and part of the inside of the handle protrudes from the stitches. Disappointed with the craftsmanship, especially for the price tag. I really love the style, the studs and the cllor, but I could do without the excessive shedding and what could potentially be a problem with the handle falling apart down the road.

I had this bag for two years and loved it. I received so many compliments on it. However, about a year into ownership, one of the handles split and started to come apart. I believe the leather was so distressed, it just gave way. I continued to use the bag, because I loved it so much, but just recently had to throw it away because the handle finally completely gave way. In the market for another Frye bag - but will be paying special attention to the handles and the level of distressing.

This is a very interesting bag looks-wise, but just not worth the money in my opinion. Other than the cost vs. value, main issue with it is that it doesn't stay closed. I just can't justify the cost, so back it will go.
