These are the best boots that I have ever owned! I bought size 8 even though I usually wear 7½. This allows room for my wool hiking socks and for the natural swelling that happens on long hikes.

These are great boots. They needed no breaking in. The leather is soft and the boots are very light. I've hiked some pretty rugged terrain and was worried that the suede-like leather wouldn't be tough enough, but I've had no problems. I put innersoles in them because I have high arches, but the support would probably be fine for most people.

I needed these boots at the last minute for a hiking trip, and fortunately they worked out to be amazing and required essentially no break in time at all. I was able to get right out onto the trail and hike for several hours in these, without suffering any blisters or points of irritation on my feet. They seemed to run fairly true to size, just remember to allow enough room for whatever thickness of hiking socks you prefer.

Overall, these boots are great. The first time I wore them was on a difficult 9 mile hike and they worked out great. Nice grip on rocks, very comfortable and they kept my feet dry. I think I would have preferred a half size up since my foot tends to swell a bit after longer hikes. I had to loosen up the laces after a while; besides that, fantastic boots!

Love these boots! They are so lightweight yet supportive. I have heel pain and these boots helped. Like the color too. I ordered half size up.

These are my first pair of hiking boots and I was really happy with them the first day out. I hiked Flattop Mountain Trail without issue in them. I have a wide foot and a very high arch, but they boots proved accommodating and comfortable. I did notice a little soreness at the top my achilles tendon, where the very top of the back of the boot put pressure on my foot. It was nothing major, but slightly noticeable. I'm still happy with the purchase and found they had great grip for tougher parts of my hike that required some mountain climbing. As for the look of the boot, I was a big fan. The red coloring is a little more dull than pictured, but still very maroon. The laced up well and provided good ankle support. Thought they looks rather cute with some scrunchy socks and leggings. Definitely recommend these based on the price point and overall experience.

Wore these this morning on my daily hike/walk. I live in GA, so it was hot & humid, but these boots did not feel uncomfortable at all. They are good year round boots. Love the color. I ordered a size up & they were a perfect fit. They were comfortable, light, did not rub my heel, even though they are new. Would recommend these to anyone.

This shoe is beautiful and will make a big foot look gorgeous! Normally I wear size 11 which is often too long, and I also have a wide foot. I ordered the 43/11.5-12 in black goat suede, and it is barely long enough for my foot! The width is very comfortable. The bottom felt great to walk on. It's so beautiful, and felt so good that I just want to cry that I have to send it back and there is no larger size option. Additional sizing note for Ahnu: I also ordered the Montara Boot in 11, and while it fits just a tiny bit longer than this shoe, I'm sure that with real world walking, not just around the house, my toes will touch the end. The width in the boot was also very comfortable for my wide foot. These are my first tries with Ahnu, and now that I know how great this brand feels on my foot, I almost wish I hadn't tried them so I wouldn't know what great shoes I am missing! I strongly recommend this brand. Just be ready to be disappointed if your foot is 11 or longer but definitely TRY just in case it works for your 11. Also, for smaller sizes: That this 11/12 was a full size smaller than most 11's may not mean that you should order a larger size; I've heard that most brands actually redo the last for the sizes above 9.5s or 10s, and from what I've seen over the years (I used to wear size 9!), I believe that's true. The difference between an 8 and 9 can be very different than between a 9 and 10, or a 10 and 11.

This is a comfortable, dry, and lightweight shoe. They lace securely and quickly, so it's a quick change at the door if your shoes are muddy or grassy. I wear these for several hours when I'm mowing and pruning in our massive yard, and my feet stay dry from moisture and sweat. I thought I might want to use my orthotics, but so far I haven't needed them. I ordered my regular size, and they were exactly right for me; it might be important to note that my socks are of medium thickness. I highly recommend this shoe.

This boot was great! Felt comfortable as soon as I put them on-never had a break-in period. I am recovering from a broken left ankle and a sprained right ankle, and these boots were incredibly supportive. I tried all sorts of other brands-Merrill, Vasque and Keens and always got blisters within a few miles. I just walked the west coast of Ireland in very wet conditions (bogs and rain) averaging 13 miles a day and these boots kept my feet dry and comfortable the entire time. I would strongly recommend these boots!

Love these boots. They are so light. I've had many a hiking boot and these are a real treat. I'm normally a size 10 and the 10 felt like a good fit (I assumed I wouldn't be wearing them with super thick socks) but when I did a short walk in them, my toes started to fall asleep. Not a good idea for a 12 mile hike! So I went up a half a size and that is a lot better. A tiny bit too big while wearing my normal hiking socks now, so I would probably get extra thick socks or upgrade to a thick gel insole. I have neuromas and would be quite happy with the gel insole option! I have in the past had big trouble with plantar fasciitis and am very cautious when it comes to my boots. These seem great. I've worn them on a 3 hours hike so far with about 3k in elevation gain over fairly rocky terrain and my feet were very happy. They are also super cute in a yellow and purple color way. Win. Highly recommended!

I absolutely LOVE my Ahnu Montara hiking boots! They are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever worn. I especially like that the toe box is wide and not cramped, as so many shoes tend to be. Because of the width, I can wear slightly thicker (always SmartWool!) socks and still not have scrunched toes. Thank you, Ahnu, for your great shoes and terrific business philosophy!

These are the best hiking boots ever made! I have owned all top quality brands and had to give them away or return them shortly after wearing them but AHnu I can wear 12 hours a day and never feel sore. They fit perfectly, give good support and feel like slippers! They are the best looking boots on the market. Please write your positive reviews so they never quit making these boots! I bought these in black for my first Ithaca winter after many years in sunny California. I LOVE them. They kept me dry and warm, and are extremely comfortable. They are fairly flexible and very light, and feel somewhere between high top athletic shoes and hiking boots. They are probably not stiff enough for rugged hiking, but for walking up Seneca Street they are great. I also like the styling: sort of between sneaker and shoe, the black still works for a casual office. I think I want to get the berry color when these wear out.

I ordered this style in a different color last year. The comfort and functionality of the boot are outstanding. Add that to how good it looks, and I had to order another pair!

Best boots I have ever bought. Just like the other reviews suggested - there's no breaking in needed. I bought these for my honeymoon in Ireland and my feet stayed dry through torrential downpours. They look nice for around town comfort and are rugged enough for hiking too. I bought my now husband a pair & he was impressed too.

These are so great! They are amazing for all weather conditions, especially rain and snow. We got 14" of snow and my feet were the one thing that stayed toasty and dry! In these boots, I'm never conscious of my feet when treading through bad weather and that's a huge plus. They are a little stiff around the ankle but that's the only con.

I bought these to go on a three day hiking trip in New Hampshire. They came in the mail and I left for my trip. I put these boots on and hiked for three days. No blisters or any issues. Highly recommended.

This is a really nice hiking boot. I tried a range of options first as I have weird feet. This one is flexible yet provides nice support for climbing on rocky terrain. I like the color combo and the shoe cleans up easily after getting dirty.

My 17-year-old daughter and I needed hiking boots (luckily we both wear size 8, medium width), so we ordered 6 pairs to try on and choose from...though these Ahnu Montara boots are going back to Zappos, they ended up as the #2 choice for both of us (a very hard choice on her part). Others were the Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid-Leather, Caterpillar Argon Hi, Merrell Whiteout 8 Waterproof, Keen Ketchum, and Ariat Terrain 8. She chose the Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid-Leather, and I chose the Ariat Terrain 8s (they have more arch support than these). The Ahnu Montaras were by far the most comfortable higher-topped style we tried. My daughter and I found these boots comfortable and appealing - we simply both decided we preferred a lower-top style.

Based on previous reviews, I ordered a 7.5 and I usually wear a 7. I could have gotten away with a 7, but since the color I got on sale is out of stock, I will live with the slightly bigger boot. The base around the shoe is very sturdy and secure, I like that in a hiking boot. As I hike pretty steep hills, with loose gravel at times. Around the ankle is a little stiffer than I had expected, but that is fine, nothing wrong with securing my ankles, feels like it will loosen up over time. I didn't need or want to get a waterproof boot. The moisture wicking materials inside the boot work great. So I guess these will double as an every day boot on rainy days. People that didn't select excellent arch support, forgot to click on the tab. These have a high arch, that I don't need, and usually avoid. It's high and very noticeable. It doesn't bother me, but it's definitely and excellent arch support.

These boots are super comfortable and very lightweight. No break in period required! Wore them motorcycle riding in the rain all day...feet got a little cold, but stayed dry! Love them!

These are great boots. I have two pairs - one purple (for fun and hiking) one black (for work). I might even order the smoke brown as well. These boots are very comfortable for all day wear but would be a tad more comfortable for rough terrain if more padding in the footbed. An insole might take care of that. I just have not gotten around to trying one. Overall, I love them.
