These are awesome boots with a great Old School look and feel. I love wing tips and having a pair of wing tip boots is extra cool. They dress up with slacks, are great in the rain and go well with jeans. I put sno-seal on them to help waterproof the uppers, which also toned down the distressed look a bit. I walk a lot. My biggest issue with the boots is that they take a while to break in...but they get more comfy with each use and are feeling really good after having worn them about 15 days. Wearing high lace ups also requires a little technique to get on and off quickly, but its only slightly more cumbersome than a low lace up shoe.

This is the first pair of Frye boots I have owned and this will not be the last. When I first put them on they felt a little snug but after about a hour they felt like I had been wearing them for years like an old friend. Love the wing tip.

Great look but the toe box is narrow. Even a half size up was too narrow. A disappointment.

The Frye James Lug Wingtip boot is an excellent choice for those who want a dressier look but need a rubber sole either for comfort or weather concerns. It was comfortable right out of the box with only a short break in period required. It is made in Mexico and that is the only drawback. Given the price, why not make it in America?

Great looking boots, fit well, comfortable, lug soles great for winter. Everything I wanted and they are Frye boots which I have had good luck with before.

These wingtip boots rock. The distressed look is beat up enough to go casual with jeans and the lace-up wingtip style works with dress pants and a sport coat. I waterproofed my pair with Snowseal and with their excellent waffle soles, they've become my go-to shoes for rainy days, especially in colder weather. They took a little while to break in, but it was well worth the effort.

WARNING: I bought two pair of these boots back in 97 and wore them till they literally fell apart. They were my favorite choice in footwear and I wore them all the time. The only downside is that they are rubber soled, which means that the boot is glued to the sole, not stitched. When I said my boots literally fell apart, well that's not how boots are supposed to be made. The heel has a strip of leather glued to the outside to make it look like it is a true leather heel. I plan on buying a few more pair, with the understanding that these are not designed to be everyday wear, they won't last, but they are beautiful and comfortable, and just plan on purchasing them every four or five years if you're going to live in them...which I did! Can't wait to get my new pair.

I own three pairs of Frye James boots: plain toe with leather sole, plain toe with rubber sole and these wingtips with rubber sole. All of them in size 11½. While both plain toe versions are true to size, these wingtips are not. These are narrower with particularly low instep. In instep area there is also some seam on the inside which can cause pain. So order half or full size up, but then they might be too long. I just wanted to warn you. The best would be to try them on before ordering, if you can. Otherwise good boots. Well constructed (Good Year), good leather, leather lining, beautiful (better looking in person than on pictures) and stylish.

I received these boots in the mail the day after I ordered them; wow, that's really great service! Unpacked them, and in person, the boot's leather was unprofessionally distressed. I buy boots once in a few years, and need these to last, and won't take a chance on leather that's already torn to shreds. I'll be exchanging them for another color, since I believe the copper and grey pairs have clean leather.

An outstanding boot! It's a stylish wingtip in boot form with an awesome distressed look. High-quality craftsmanship as expected of the Frye brand. Despite the sturdy lug soles, the boot doesn't feel particularly heavy on my feet. I generally wear 7.5 EE. When wide sizes are not available, I usually go up to an 8(D). Purchased these boots in 8(D) and they were still a bit snug. The 8.5(D) fit better although still required a bit of break-in time as reported by other reviewers. A bit pricey, but a great product. I'd purchase these again.

These boots are so great. I have two pair really appreciate the fit and design. The boot height give better protection than a shoe and yet the appearance is classic wingtip .

Lots of Patina out of the box. High level of craftsmanship. These are not boots you have to worry about keeping nice. They want to look beat up. Pretty warm and comfortable with a thick wool sock.

These are great boots. Super high level of craftsmanship. Weathered enough to look cool and keep you from worrying about keeping them nice. Pretty warm and comfortable. Worth the money.

My husband is the most particular person when it comes to his shoes; after I ordered these for him, I was worried I would be returning them, but no, not the case at all. These are so well made, look so good, and fit so well...he is so impressed. He has been wearing Red Wing Heritage boots and Bass and Clarks.

I own 2 pairs of Frye James Wingtips and I love them. One has a leather sole and the other a lug rubber sole. The lug sole is slightly more comfortable but they are both superb examples of well made boots. I wear them with jeans and I think they look great. I recommend them unequivocally.

These are phenomenal boots! They truly dress down with jeans beautifully or use some nice thick leather cream, rub it in really well and you will get a shine out of these babies which makes it easy to pull off with a suit or more formal wear in general. I wore these in a blizzard the other day with thick wool socks; these things are awesome boots. Do not let the exterior of a wingtip fool you. These are Fryes through and through, people.

Awesome looking shoe. Feels soft and warm with the added padding inside. A little tight in the toe are, feels 1/2 size smaller. The durability remains to be seen, the rubber-like sole makes for a very comfortable casual looking shoe. I'm satisfied with the overall look and feel of the shoes.

The James Lug Wingtip is an excellent boot with style. The wingtips dress up what would otherwise be simply another leather boot. The boots "pre-distressed" as advertised, which I wasn't really looking for. However, the distressed effect can be reduced with a good polish. Additionally, they are obviously expensive, though the boots seem likely to last long enough to make them worth the price. On a different note, I've found the boots to be very comfortable and surprisingly light. I've been wearing them with a set of somewhat thick wool socks, so the fit and comfort may be affected by my choice of socks. Overall, the boots are good enough that I'm considering buying a light brown ("Cognac") pair in addition to the black pair I already purchased.

This boot was comfortable and fit well. However, the leather has some type of weird pebbly finish -- the "antiquing"? Which quickly rubs off, frays, and looks awful. I couldn't decide whether to have the shoe shop buff it off or just send the boots back. Then the sole split. I had the boots about two months when all this happened. Light wear, weekends, rainy days, etc.

These are beautiful boots. These are comfortable boots. The leather is stiff, so it took a little while to break them in. After maybe a dozen wears, the leather failed just above the heel cup. It completely tore through and the boots are ruined. Defective? Maybe, I don't know. But one boot went and the other is close to going. Utterly disappointed.
