I purchased 3 pairs of dress shoes for my husband, all about the same price point, and this was one of them. Compared to the others, this was by far inferior. The stitching was visibly uneven with loose threads, and the leather lacked luster. This shoe was made in China (compared to Spain and Brazil for the 2 others). If you want to invest this much in a shoe, you can find better value elsewhere.

I got the brown one. Beautiful color with burnt finish on the toe. John Varvatos sizing is weird! I'm an 8. Some of their boots I have to get 7.5, Converse by John Varvatos I have to get a 7! These Dress Oxfords are perfect fit. Sizing on this one is right on the money. Pretty comfortable with moderate support. Length is perfect. They're made in China not in Italy as some stated. Also the ones I received do not have the silver peace logo on the heel like the one shown in the picture. Just so you know. Though not a big deal but it would be nice as I find it really cool.

I was looking for a new pair of dress shoes that were not the typical square toe that seem so popular, but look terrible. I also did not want a shoe that was too over the top. I found these John Varvatos Dress Oxfords to be the perfect combination of classic styling, quality workmanship, and comfort. I have gotten a few comments about how good these shoes look and look forward to wearing them more in the future. This was easily the best dress shoe I have bought in the last five years.

These shoes are probably the most comfortable I have ever worn! I wore these shoes for my wedding, and I have to say they looked just as good on my feet as they did online. They did, however, run a little big, about half a size.

I ordered these along with several other choices that looked very similar. The look beautiful, simple and clean, very well made. They were certainly the most comfortable of the bunch, and have treated me well at work all day long as well as on the dance floor at weddings. Comfortable, attractive, not prone to heel slipping. Highly recommend.

These shoes are great - I ordered them with three other pairs of black dress shoes, and I liked these best from the start. They were the priciest of the four, however, so I wanted to be cautious. As I soon as I put them on, the other three were back in the box, on the way back to Zappos. They are the most comfortable dress shoe I have ever wore; often I'll wear them hours after I get home from work just because I forget I have them on. And the best part is they look as great as they feel. I use my cheaper, somewhat sturdier black dress shoes for rainy days or when I'll be walking around the city a lot, but that's more because I want these things to last forever rather than because I don't think they can take it. Highly recommended you at least take advantage of the free shipping both ways to give them a try, you won't regret it. I put "feel true to size," which I think is correct, but if anything I think they run slightly large.

These are great shoes, if you want simple plain all leather shoes that you can always wear. They are dressy, soft, fit right out of the box, off to work or play. Zappos has the best deal on the best shoe I could find! I love them!

The most amazing shoe I ever put my foot into! I work at home and wear them around instead of sneakers (they are that comfortable) -- the leather is so soft -- no 'breaking in' period needed, and women love them -- I've got like 8 unprompted compliments regarding them. Worth every penny.

Well-made and stylish shoe--and made in Italy! My son wore these with his tux to his brother's wedding. He said they were very comfortable and liked how they looked on his foot. He is ordinarily a 12.5 but had to go to the 13 since that was the next size up from the 12. The shoe runs narrow through the toe-box so be aware of this when you order. For a shoe made in Italy, this is a decent price point. Most of what's out there is made in China, even at this price, so do your homework before you buy.

This is the most comfortable dress shoe that I have ever worn. I have a black pair, too. It's just fashionable enough to feel young, but conservative enough for the board room.

My husband has these in brown and loves them, so I brought him black for xmas. He finds them very comfortable. He went up 1/2 a size. They are very nice quality leather and craftsmanship.

These are comfortable and stylish. The downside is the very thin outer leather sole that developed holes within 2 weeks! I had them re-soled (more money!), and they have been great since, but this is a definite flaw in this shoe.

I have a 13 B foot and was hoping that this 13 D shoe would work for me. This shoe was at least an inch too long. These shoes look good and have a comfortable footbed. Another reviewer stated these shoes are made in Italy however I found under the tongue "Made in China". The price point surprised me since it was made in China. I think if I had ordered the 12 D it would have fit my foot.

Very disappointed with these shoes. They look better in the pictures than in person, aren't comfortable and at this price I expected more.

Great looking and versatile shoe that's also comfortable to boot! Only complaint is the shoe laces are really long.

Very stylish shoe. Can be worn with jeans or a suit. I found the sizing to be right on. Maybe a little roomier than usual above the foot but not bad. The sole quickly scuffs. I am not sure how long it will last before I need to replace it. These are a little less flexible than I like, making it slightly uncomfortable to walk in.

I read a lot of the reviews for this shoe and was totally let down! They run a full size big and the width took away from that classy feel I was looking for. Tried them on with a Varvatos suit (coincidence) I was wearing and they looked like Frankenstein shoes.

Love this dress shoe from Varvatos! Might be the best plain toe all purpose dress shoe on the market. It fits so comfortably that feels like a slipper but has good enough support to log a few miles without discomfort. All John Varvatos shoes are built on a long/narrow last so the shape is always a little long to be able to fit the rest of the foot. In this shoe that longer last is not a problem for me as I just order 1/2 size down from my normal 12's and the 11.5 fits great. My only criticism of Varvatos shoes in general is that they are built for a long narrow body shape style, which is not the typical person so you have to try them on to see if they work - some do and some don't. These definitely fit great and the look is flawless!

Great fitting shoe! Very sturdy and well constructed. The shoes is very versatile and can be worn with jeans and or a plane front pant.

Needed a classic darker brown pair of Oxfords and couldn't be happier with the choice. Not only do these look great, they are surprisingly very comfortable, too. Very versatile as well.

AMAZING DRESS SHOE! These shoe are not only super, super comfortable, but they look great with everything from a suit, to a tux, to wearing them out with some dressier jeans. Really great shoe.

I'm very happy with my John Varvatos shoes, but I'm most impressed with Zappos. The company really delivers on its promise. These shoes were promised in 3 days and UPS screwed up and the delivery was delayed. I called Zappos Customer Service and the representative was awesome and proactive. He apologized for the mistake and offered a very generous credit for my trouble. His attention and attitude made me an even more loyal fan of Zappos. Thank you.

I agree with other reviewers that the craftsmanship and comfort is significantly lacking in these John Varvatos shoes. I am writing this review about a year after the purchase date. The shoes have completely deteriorated with moderate use in ideal weather conditions (Southern California). Specifically, the leather has faded, the sole stitching has completely worn, and the interior heel and footbed is destroyed. They're sharp stylistically but not worth the investment due to the poor craftsmanship and material. I expected much more at this price and am disappointed as a result.

I have owned these shoes for one year now. Overall the quality is not up to par for the price you are paying. The soles started to separate after regular use in intermittent rainy weather (I alternate 3 shoes each week) and my Allen Edmonds are in great shape in comparison to these shoes. The leather sole is very thin and starts to peel off and separate. A shoe that looks good but lacks the form and function of what makes a shoe really great.
