Size and fit true but this was a clunkier boot than I expected with little of the style I expect from Frye. They were a for my daughter (20) and she only bothered to try them on bc I wanted to know how they fit.

So cute. But I need arch support, so I had to send them back.

The boot is comfortable and true to size. The style (in size 8.5) seemed proportionally odd to me -- too long, flat, and undistinguished. I like the look of a good, heavy combat boot or work boot. But this seemed too masculine, in a sense, without looking strong and sharp. The boot's profile lacks an arch, a slight curve at the sole, that would have given it some oomph and shape. Maybe a slightly bigger heel or thicker sole would have helped. If you're looking for a decently made combat boot and don't have high expectations for style, you might love these. They didn't fit the bill for me, so I returned them.

I ordered this shoe several times from Zappos, and also from amazon... I wanted to see the colors and check out any differences. I thought I had settled on the stone stone washed, which actually came from a third party through amazon... thank goodness I hadn't sent back the soft leather camel ones I bought from zappos... the different leather types in the same style, "veronica combat" are very different! the stone stone-washed were extremely heavy, stiff and hard compared to the camel. The distance between the top two eyelets were different too. the color sort of looked like the boots had been natural leather color and someone had just painted a thin coat of black shoe polish on the bottom 2/3 of the boot! they really hurt in the back at the seam at the heel. I noticed that the seam had a rather rough, raw edge, and though I'd gone through a lot of trouble to get this boot that must have been discontinued, they were punishing to wear, and my instinct told me that they would break me before I could break them in! I went back and unpacked the two pairs of boots I thought I was returning and found that the black stone-washed ones were as heavy as the stone colored ones. the camel felt like an old friend to put on my feet, and the boot was much softer, lighter, and the soul was all rubber rather than rubber front over leather, as the other two had... needless to say that I am probably going to keep the camel ones. Funny how the veronica combat boots all look as though they are the same boot in different colors, but they are really SO different!

I ordered these because they had good reviews and looked cute online. But when I tried them on in person, they were utterly disappointing. The cut looks awkward and they seem misguidedly "retro." I can't put my finger on exactly what's wrong with them stylistically, possibly the extremely low instep? They look okay when unlaced (as in the pictures and video)...but the general shape looks awkward and wrong when laced up, especially from the front. And that's a problem, since you do have to lace them up if you want to walk around in them. I ordered two sizes, my regular size and one size up. My regular size fit fine, though the instep (height of the mid-foot area) was very short compared to most boots, which may cause them to feel narrow on some people. By the way my size 7 had a defect in the leather -- it had separated and was coming apart in layers at the bottom of the laces.

I wanted to like these but ultimately was so disappointed. I thought Frye stood for quality US craftsman made. Not so, these are made in Mexico. The leather around the shaft feels solid but at the base (vamp?) feels thin.

I ordered these in the distressed black. I always order my boots a half size larger and ordered a 7.5. They were way too small. Returned for the 8 and still too small. They also weren't as distressed as they are in the photos. I love Frye, but they seem to be having sizing consistency issues.

I loved the look of the veronica combat. I purchased the tan full grain. The fit was great, however the right boot was defective. The eyelets weren't matched up, like 1/4" off, looked funky, and then when on laced up only half way they squeeked so badly I felt like I was on horseback in a leather saddle. The quality of Frye has slipped, these should be seconds. The leather was nice, but the suede looked thin and cheap. I had to send them back!

Sizing is off. Feels very tight and narrow. I should have gone up a size.

Horrific quality, Frye...and why?--I have some lovely shoes by you, why are these so BAD?--I have no problem spending nearly $300, but I expect them to be top notch. I've ordered and returned FIVE pairs of these boots in black stonewash and in plain black (4 ordered from Zappos, 1 ordered from Frye, themselves), and every single one has gone back: 1) Black Stonewash...cool color--at first. The dye bled...I have several pairs of ruined, cute wool socks to prove it. I don't know how this is even possible given the following issue: 2) As I wore the black stonewash, I found out the dye job is PAINTED on...that is, if you scrape the shoes, the paint comes off and you're left with the ugly, unfinished leather color. Frye refused to take them back...luckily Zappos came though and amazingly worked with me. 2) I ordered 3 pairs of black one after another after I discovered a seemingly ongoing problem with the heel: all pairs had issues with the sole on the heel separating. (Pull down on the heel and you can see fine "cracks" where the wood/leather seems to be splitting or doesn't seem to be glued together solidly.) 3) The stonewashed colors have different soles than the plain colors. The stonewashed are made of a more solid leather (wood?), and make that quality clicking sound when on hard floors. The plain colors incorporate more rubber, and are quiet. If you look closely in the pictures on Zappos, you can SEE the difference. 4) By the way, I found the boot to run narrow on my average foot, and a 1/2 size small, in all colors. The entire experience with Frye's CS and the many pairs of Veronica Combat I've examined have completely turned me off of the company. Luckily, Zappos is amazing, and has been amazing for years...I'll be with Zappos for years in the future. Thank you so much for helping me find a solution and dealing with all my returns!

This is the 2nd pair of these I've purchased. The last one was 10 years ago and, during the winter, I wear them most days. I've resoled and reheeled them several times, and they just keep going. But now they're starting to show their age, so I bought another pair. I love these boots and plan to wear out this pair as well.

I love these boots, super comfy. I see a lot of stiff boot comments, I think it depends on which boot/leather you get. I purchased the Soft Vintage black leather boot and the leather really is soft and comfy, not stiff at all. They were comfy and wearable right out of the box. Although I bought the Tan leather boot, whole different story, that leather is stiff and would take much longer to break in. I didn’t enjoy them. I usually wear 6 or 6.5 in this boot I got the 6.5 and wear medium to thick socks and the fit is perfect.

I love these boots and I want them in the color in the video. I may have to settle for the brown on Frye.com. Im going to wait a little while longer to see if they bring this one back in the video.

These are the real deal...meant to last a lifetime. Wore these on two African (photo) safaris for a safari-chic look with dresses and shorts. Super cute with fall dresses and my Gigi Pip hat. Break-in takes a few wearings, but then they fit like a dream. Definitely order 1/2 larger, trust me (read the reviews). The caramel color is my favorite...especially after they get worn in and then polished with wax. Amazing!

I had to exchange my first pair and go up half a size due to narrowness in the toe. Love the boots!

I wear size 8 and have a narrow foot and heel with a high arch. All my Frye boots are size 8.5. They are a perfect fit for my type of foot. The toe box feels snug but not rubbing and bends in the correct location. My heel does not slip and I can feel the arch slightly. I love the quality leather and the fact that Frye still makes boots with leather lining. It makes a difference in the feel, comfort, warmth and wear of the boot. So many boots these days have man made lining. All my frye boots including these feel snugger in the toe box than my other brands of boots so I feel Frye runs narrow. Which is perfect for me. The boots do break in and slightly stretch like a custom fit. I have a bad back and I walk straighter with a snug boot with a heel. Because the boot fits snug without slipping on the heel and the toe box isn’t loose I can walk-in these boots all day without my feet or back hurting. These are a great quality long lasting boot. Probably not a great fit for a wider foot. Even with my narrow foot I could not wear a thick sock with these boots.

fit and size was great. Quality of leather was great. I am still wearing these boots in 2022 and looking to purchase them in dark brown.

I love these boots! I’ve had a pair of the same boots in a different color for years. I still wear them and get complements on them frequently. I wanted them in black but was a little nervous that quality may have waned after reading a couple reviews. They arrived last week. They look & feel like the same great quality of my older pair.
