I wish the soles were a bit thinner so they would be more flexible. The boot has hooks for lacing them up fast which is good, but for some reason at the top there is grommet or eyelet that slows you down getting the boots on an off.

I was set on buying a pair of Red Wing boots, but their sizing runs just a tad too narrow for me. These boots are a great alternative at half the price. Pros: a solid, well-designed upper, and comfortable fit (minus the insole, which I found too cushiony). Cons: laces ripped after two months of wear, and the sole has surprisingly little traction on snow or ice.

I typically buy either Frye, Red Wing, or Doc Watson work boots. Since going largely to China, Docs have slipped ("leather" is practically see-through, although the soles are still great), the Red Wing Worx boots do not hold up, and while Frye has maintained the quality, the price is up there unless you get them on sale. I was looking for a shallow lug work boot to replace a pair of Red Wings which fell apart prematurely, so I gave Chippewa a shot (American made - while my first priority is a well made boot regardless of country of origin, all other things equal, I'll go American first). These are very supportive boots, well made, thick leather, not overly heavy, excellent if you have to stand on concrete or tile (even if wet), and don't track mud everywhere. What I didn't expect was how good the boot looks. I almost feel guilty slogging it through the crud. They fit very similar to Fryes (sized to be worn with thick socks, if wearing regular athletic socks, go a half size down), can handle the rough stuff, also look good in khakis or jeans. This is a great all purpose boot - worth the full price, but can usually get discounted. They may be a little narrow for some, fit my foot well, and they break in quickly (wore it for 9 hours the first day, doing landscaping, no blisters or hot spots).

These are really good shoes/boots. On reading other reviewers to buy a smaller size, I did and they are a little tight, buy your normal shoe size!

Took awhile to break in, but are very good American made work boots. As of almost two months of hard work they seem to be tough and ready for a lot more.

I was looking for some boots that would last a long time. I'm tired of shoes wearing out! I live in Minnesota so my first inclination was to buy Red Wings, but they're priced like they want to keep them, so I browsed until I found these. I bought them and couldn't be happier. First, if you are not accustomed to buying Real Boots, be aware that these have a relatively lengthy break-in period. I've had them for about a month and they're super comfortable, but the initially stiff leather chafed, squeezed and otherwise made life uncomfortable for a few weeks at first. Especially at first, the comfort of these shoes depends strongly on exactly how you lace them - leather doesn't stretch and give throughout the day like tennis shoes or jeans. These are made with what appears to be full grain leather - it's thick, smells good and is sewn together well. The Vibram soles are a bit soft but this makes walking comfortable and can presumably be replaced if they wear out. The laces were waxed when they arrived but have softened up a bit. They look sharp, and if you're worried about the huge logo showing, it is very faint and usually under the pant cuff line. I'd recommend these to anyone. They're easily the best boots I've ever owned and I look forward to using them for years to come. A note of caution - I usually wear a 10, and bought a 9.5 based on reviewers recommendations. They were still too large, so I returned them for a 9, and those fit fine. Also, if your feet run wide the least bit, be sure to get the wide version. I don't usually, but did with these and they feel great.

I initially liked these boots a lot and after reading all the reviews, I thought I had a long-lasting boot. I've never owned a pair with cushioned Vibram soles, but the hard Vibram soles last for years. Mine are worn out. My knees and feet hurt now and I'm stuck with an expensive pair of boots I can't wear to work. I'm just a maintenance guy not a construction worker.I hope this helps somebody.

This was my first pair of Chippewa boots, and I am very impressed. I was a Red Wing loyalist, but couldn’t find a comfortable casual boot, that wasn’t too hipster. These Chippewas are very comfortable, though, and they’re keepers. They come with a cushioned insole, unlike the red wings. (I have a hard time fitting an extra insole in red wings, like they have limited vertical clearance). Some reviews have dinged these for the “fit & finish” but I found these as well-made as the red wings. Also much easier to get your foot in there, because only the bottom three eyelets are fixed, and the next three are speed lugs. Nice laces, too - dressier than work boot laces. These are fully unlined, which I need for my hot feet. I think these are perfect for my need: a sturdy everyday boot that straddles the fence between work boot and dress boot.

I got these boots for my son and he loves them. The quality is superior and they can be worn all day comfortably as he climbs up and down hills. Zappos has great customer service. I'm happy with my purchase.

This is a very good looking American made boot. So much footwear is Chinese or Mexican made that I love finding US products. It runs a bit long so I ordered a half size shorter for a good fit. The boot is surprisingly lightweight making it well suited to long days walking. I have previously owned their engineers boot before and while they are tough and long wearing, they are much heavier.

My son loves the boots! They were a Christmas gift and I bought the wrong size. He also opted for the darker tone leather.

Awesome boots. I bought a pair at my usual sneaker size which turned out to be a full size too large. I eBayed those and bought a pair in the right size. And man, they are comfy now, especially after breaking in a bit. As for winter weather, they are pretty water/snow resistant, especially after applying some leather protectant. However, they by themselves are not particularly warm. The boot material is only leather with no lining, so it will get pretty cold if you are standing out in the snow or whatever. You will definitely want to pair these with some thick warming socks, but then you will stay pretty comfortable in these and not have it soak through.

Made in USA and reasonably priced considering the level of quality materials and workmanship. Excellent arch support for a boot of this type. The sole and heel is soft, dense foam and is integral with the sole. It's welted so it can be re-soled. The boots seem durable but I would like the the sole material to be harder, but the advantage of the foam sole is that it is light weight and VERY quiet. When I get it re-soled I will ask for harder rubber.

Excellent work boot for what I do. Perfect sole for ladder and scaffold work, very good arch support and close fitting style. Leather seems to be breaking in nicely after a few days of use. Boot size ran 1/2 size larger for me. Oh! and the waxed laces stay tied.

Great boots. Fit very well. Comfortable, sturdy and don't rub your ankles. Size runs half size big but wide is wide in the front half where it's usually needed rather than at the heel where your heel will float around. I would buy these again.

Heavy duty work boot. Better than Red Wing and made in the USA at a good price. Breaks in pretty quick and provides good protection. This boot is one that I will buy again.

Great boot. Also have pair of Rodeos with lug sole. These Gumlite soles are much lighter and better for indoor/garage type work.

I have had many boots in my day (retired marine now working for phone company) and these (Apache and Rodeo) are the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. The arch thing took about an hour or two to got used to (not a big thing), but after that they felt great! I look forward to a long relationship these puppies.

This is a great boot! Sturdy, and not padded, so it is not bulky. I love that it is made in the USA, and that it is a simple, well-made boot. Very comfortable and didn't take long to break it in, considering it is leather. Also like the sole, which is not lugged, so it doesn't pick up a lot of debris.

Out of the box and onto my feet, super comfortable, no rubbing or blisters as I have experienced with other work boots, these just went right to work. I wear them all day. The size was good as was the width. The laces might be a tad too long but that and their stiffness due to the waxing would be my only criticism and that isn't much to gripe about. I really like these boots and would definitely buy them again. Enjoy!

Overall I like the look and feel of these boots. However, I don't care for the quality of the leather very much. For the price, it seems the quality is lower than expected. The leather is fairly thin and stiff when new.
