Loved the boot, but it's too small. I'm a 6 1/2 - and because of the reviews I ordered down, but should have ordered up. Much nicer looking than other snow boots, but the fit was tough for me. Zappos gets high marks though. When I called customer service, they didn't have size 7, but were willing to call other vendors to find it! I'll definitely shop with Zappos again.

I really like these boots and they keep me super warm. I still have a hard time believing they will be 100% waterproof like a pair of rainboots, so I avoid deep puddles and things when walking, but as far as I can tell, my feet never get wet in them. (Even through feet of crazy NYC snow!) I'm one of the unfortunates who had to really work to break the boots in. The ankle areas were particularly rough for me, but after a few weeks, they are now comfy and great! I also really like the lace-up style, as I can get a constant custom fit. It seems that the brown boots come a bit taller than the black. A friend of mine has the black boots and hers are significantly shorter. It could be a size discrepancy, as I ordered a 7 and she ordered a 6. Her boots measure about 13 inches and mine measure about 15 inches. These boots are definitely not as dainty as I thought they would be. They are a heavy-duty boot, much wider and more substantial than they may seem as pictured. That being said, they look very nice and well put together for a winter boot (when the other options are considered). They will keep you warm and dry and you'll look as stylish as possible while still getting all that done.

I was looking forward to upgrading my winter boots after decades of being in the same ones. I've been a Sorel boot fan for many decades, warm, keep you dry, able to trudge through deep snow. I was wanting something taller and a little more stylish than what I'd been wearing, and Cate the Great seemed to fit the bill. It is definitely a super warm, good looking functional boot. I love the look and have gotten many compliments on them. They are nice and high (over my calf) and with the winter we've been having in the northeast this year, I got them just in time. The foot is the good old trusted Sorel thick rubber that stays dry no matter what. It is extremely functional, but perhaps a bit clunky looking for the stylish upper. I am a size 9 shoe (solidly), so I got a size 9 boot. I tried them on and they fit fine, but I must say now that I've been wearing them a few weeks, I feel like they are just a tad oversized. they also don't lace very snugly at the base of the boot (where the suede meets the rubber) and as a result there is a bit of a sag in the heel that can irritate my heel if I'm out for a long walk. I wore them snowshoeing one day and was pretty uncomfortable in my upper heel by the time I got back. I've tried to lace them up good and tight to try to minimize this loose, sagging effect, but I can't seem to get those first couple of laces to tighten up. I do think I should have perhaps gone a half size smaller to try to eliminate this effect, but I'd already worn them outside and figured it's too late now. None of the reviews I'd read mentioned going a half size smaller, so I went with what I normally wear. They were expensive too, so I won't be replacing them any time soon. They'll keep me dry and warm, which is great, but I won't feel that cozy feeling when I put them on knowing I have to work on getting them laced just so to minimize the sagging upper heel to avoid irritating my heel. Too bad, because otherwise they're a great boot!

This is a really cute winter boot! I have been looking for a couple of years for something warm, comfortable, fairly stylish, and tall enough to be able to tuck my pants into to keep them dry. For the most part, this fits the bill. The laces provide a custom fit and are quite easy to lace. I wear a size 8, bought an 8, and it fits perfectly with different weights of socks. I tend to find shoes and boots slip too much but this one doesn't. I have worn the boot now in deep snow and my feet (and pants) stayed completely dry. Only complaint is that they aren't as warm as I had hoped, but I do have cold feet so I might be a hopeless case. One other downside is that you can't wear a pant leg over this boot, but the fur at the top was just too cute to resist. The leather upper is very flexible and I find I have full range of motion even though the boot is tall. Minor discomfort in the ankle area where the horizontal and vertical parts of the boot meet, but I have found this only when I am moving in somewhat awkward positions. Was torn between this and the Timberland EarthKeepers Mount Holly Tall Lace Duck boot -- the Timberland felt warmer in my house, was comfortable in my house, was a little shorter (could possible wear boot cut pants over the boot), but just didn't have the same style factor going for it. Overall Cate the Great is a great boot!

Fit alert! Okay, the general consensus is that these boots run large...true. I wear and 8.5/9 and originally ordered the Joan of Arctic boots in 9 and felt the fit was a half a size too big, and overall looked clunky. If you wear really thick socks the fit is better, but I don't wear really thick socks. So, ordered the Cate the Great in an 8. The fit is snug with room in the heel, not uncomfortable and not as clunky looking. Will be sending the Joan of Arctics back and keep the Cates. Both boots look very well made and are very cute and stylish. Wish the Cates had the hardware like the Joans, and wish they came in half sizes.

After reading the reviews, I was very skeptical about the comfort of these boots. I've worn them in various settings over the past few days. I generally wear a size 7-7.5 and purchased a 7. These boots are easy to put on, lace up and go. The fit is loose around the ankle, even with thicker socks, but not enough to rub blisters like other people had mentioned. I tried them out over the weekend in up to a foot of snow. My feet have stayed warm which was the end goal. I love the style and have received several second glances.

Very stylish looking snow boot with solid construction. I wore them commuting to & from NYC during and after a snow storm. My feet stayed dry and the boot did not show any signs of water stains or salt stains. I normally wear a 7 1/2 and went with the size 8 because I like to wear heavier socks or multiple socks in cold stormy weather. I would agree with other reviewers that there is extra room around the ankle/heel area. However, since I wear the heavier sock I prefer this extra space. I also found that with the laces, I was able to secure the boot tightly so that there was minimal movement to irritate the ankle/heel area. Last but not least -- a kudos to Zappos for quick delivery. I ordered on a Sunday night and the boots were on my door by end of business on Tuesday -- just in time for the storm!

I am so impressed with Zappos! I ordered my boots, then went to bed and they arrived late morning the next day! I agree with other reviewers, the heel is a killer on the achilles. However, after putting on a pair of ski socks and giving them a good run around town doing errands they started to feel better. I owe a big thanks to a customer who wore a pair of Cate the Great into my store and said they are awesome warm and comfortable after breaking in the heel! If you have huge calves and a hard time finding a winter boots, give these a try.

I really liked these boots and they felt really warm but I had to return them because it was too big in the ankle area. I think other reviewers had this problem as well. If it wasn't for that, I would have kept them! Oh well, the search for winter boots continues.

Great quality, but the fit was a little off. Runs a bit wide and about half a size short - was hitting my big toe. Would love half sizes please! More serious but stylish snow boots please!

I ordered a half size larger. The fit was pretty good, had moderate arch support, was easy to wear over jeans, but the heel slips - even when I added a heel pad. Very good quality and seemed like it could withstand an arctic blizzard!

Space in the front of the ankle is awkwardly large. Boot slides up and down a little when I walk which is a little chafing. Overall pretty good boot. Awesome look.

So, I love this boot. It's extremely warm, waterproof, and fits my very large calves - up to my knees, ladies! Downside - the back of the shoe portion of the boot flexes into my ankle and has caused me some discomfort. Also, there isn't a great amount of support for walking. I take public transportation and do a fair amount of walking everyday. These are, sadly, not making my commute nice. If you don't walk a lot, the other great qualities of the boot would make this boot the perfect choice! I can't express how sad I am that I'm probably going to have to exchange this boot for another. But on the upside, Zappos is always a fantastic choice for me.

Pros: They're a great warm and cozy boot, without making your legs feel as if they're in a furnace. If you have wider calves these are excellent. They also are easy on and off. You don't have to fight to tuck in jeans or get your foot in. Cons: I normally wear a 9, so that is what I purchased. Maybe an 8½ would have worked better if they offered half sizes. While the toe box fit nicely the heel was quite loose. Whenever I took a step my heels would rise causing painful friction against the back of my foot. After walking around for ten minutes I was in agony. I ended up with big time sores from them rubbing. I tried an insole thinking the extra padding would help reduce the rubbing. No luck. I really wish these worked, but I ended up having to return them. :(

I'm a 6.5- 7 and I ordered a 7 which was too large. It's a very stiff boot and quite warm, but too bulky for everyday winter wear.

I first ordered an 8. I normally wear an 8.5. They were huge on and looked ridiculously huge! But I loved the style so I got a 7. They looked much better! Still they are a bulky style but for what I wanted them for, funning through snow and slush with my kids, they were perfect! Also, they were not as warm as I expected them to be so you definitely would want a sock if you are going to be outside in snow for a while. The one thing I noticed was that I really could have used a size 6 in the boot but kept the size 7 in the "inner boot" you can buy the inner boot separate in any size. I didn't do that but thought that would maybe be helpful to anyone who has a complex bout big looking feet and especially since these are a style that are going to make your feet look big anyways. However after about a month of wear, the sole of the shoe separated from the top of the shoe. Zappos was as usual amazing!! I returned them for a full refund, and because its now march I got the brooks tall by ugg. I had a pair of leather uggs that lasted 5 years with no issues other than they just looked so old.

I needed a comfortable, stylish boot that could handle the snow and slush that is a reality of northeastern winters. Having thicker calves than most tall slip on boots will accommodate, I decided to give these a try. The boot is waterproof and handles the snow well, but it cannot make the leap to blending in with dressier pieces. The duck-boot bottom also makes my feet look way bigger than they are.

These boots are very cute, but they fit differently than other Sorel snow boots. Mine were very tight across the top of the foot where the suede upper is attached to the rubber boot. I opted to go with the Josephina instead, which is much more comfortable.

Super cute on the computer screen! But when I tried on my Size 9, I was appalled at how large my feet looked. The width looked enormous while looking down at my foot. I would guess that maybe a Size 8 or below would be okay, but anyone above a Size 9 should stay away from this style!

I bought these boots because I thought they would be cute and keep my feet toasty warm. They are beautiful, the picture doesn't come close to how good looking they are. However, my toes are cold a lot and I'm not outside for very long. The toe box of the boots feel like they leak, it's always damp under the liner. I love the way they look but I wouldn't buy them again.

So...I was torn with these, but in the end had to return them. I love the Hawk color and the combo of suede, leather and just the right amount of fur at the top. But, as others have said, the rubber bottom is just too wide. It was like "thunder thighs", but at the foot. No matter how tight I pulled them around the rest of the boot, they still felt like they made my feet look huge! Ended up going with the Tivoli, though wasn't super excited.

I've been seeing these boots in catalogues lately; apparently the models are wearing them in child's sizes, because on my normal size 8 feet? They look like clown boots! Hah! So I'm a little disappointed. I knew snow boots wouldn't look or feel dainty; however, these are just a strange fit overall. Maybe I needed to order a size or two down? They're well made to last forever, so just be warned. They're like wearing SUV's!

I am naturally a size 9. I love the look of these boots. Everything I wanted in a winter boot. But the ergonomics in construction of this boot is questionable. The rubber bootie part hits and turns into my ankle right at my Achilles, which more irritating than tolerable. I have tried the 8 and 9 so far. The 8 fits like a glove but the ankle problem gets much worse. It does it far less with the 9 but the overall fit gets a bit too roomy. I will wear these around the house a few days longer to see if this is something that will work itself out, but I feel that the rubber bootie is not going to break in. So I am anticipating sending them back.
