This is a great shoe and overall worth the price. It offers the stability as advertised and then some. However, Salomon needs to figure out the strength on the lacing system or include a spare set with purchase. Also the tread could be a little stronger as my last pair wore down in about 9 months with average use. This is my third set of Salomon shoes within the last 2 years and all of them have needed the laces replaced. Once Salomon figures this issue out they will have a 5 star shoe!

Originally bought the XT wings off a sales table, I wasn\'t very impressed with the style or lace system, but as soon as i tried them on I loved them. I liked the cushion and support therefore I thought the xt wings 2 would be an improvement over the original. The wings 2 do offer a great shoe but in my opinion not as good a combination that the original offered. I like allot of cushion and the wings 2 are supportive but not as cushioned. The original was a great balance of support and cushion combined with durability, I actually had to replace the shoe laces a couple of times. Still \r\ndont like the lace system, they squeak sometimes, and still not crazy about style and color selection, but I would still buy another pair if I do not find a better replacement which will be tough to do.

Overall a very good trail shoe. Very stable and offers good protection on rough sections of trail. Not so good on the road although they are much better suited to road and hard packed trails than the XA 3D's I purchased a couple of years ago. Definitely felt a half size smaller than marked.

I took these shoes out for a 1 1/2 run in the local hills today. I'm 155lbs, 5'10' and I supinate just a bit. I enjoy/need great arch support, and my feet tend to be wide. My running consists of 4-5 days a week and is 80% trails. The toe box is mildly narrow, but no toe scrunching. The arch support felt awesome, and I didn't use my insole inserts. My heels didn't wiggle around or slide up or down. I could perceive some of the seams inside of the shoe might be an issue during a 4+ hour run. No more lace-tension system across big toe. I gave the lace system a slight tug at the start and didn't touch them for the rest of the run. The lace system tightened evenly across its length. The shoe's tongue is fairly well-padded and has a micro pocket for the laces. My feet never rolled out or in and the shoe grips well in slick downhill mud. The shoe feels great running laterally across downhill slopes, and the padding around the heel collar is thick. On down hills, the shoe's heel collar in the rear part might have been rubbing my Achilles a little bit too much, but it was just my left foot. On my final stretch back to my vehicle which is mostly smooth downhill and flat dirt, the shoe's lack of plush road cushioning is evident. I loved running trails in my Vomero 2, and those things were clouds, but these shoes were not designed for long, flat sections of hard-packed dirt or pavement. They are not total bricks, but they make you concentrate on your stride. That's probably good.

The main problem I have with these shoes is that the sides of the shoe come up high on the ankle. I have worn the shoes for three runs and due to the discomfort and pain caused by the shoe rubbing my ankle I will not run in them again.

This is not the shoe if you have developed any sort of muscular strength for running. It has way way too much support and makes your body go into a type of lazy coma. I seriously did not enjoy running in this shoe whatsoever. I definitely gave them a chance by running over 100 miles in them but each run I disliked them even more.
