I decided I was in need of a good quality flat brown-ish leather boot and after reading tons of reviews I ordered both the Melissa button in burgundy brush off and the Melissa back zip in wine soft antique. I ended up keeping the Melissa buttons for the following reasons: 1) the Melissa buttons create a more flattering silhouette on my body. I am 5'5 with average-thin calves and pear shaped. The dip at the top and the curved back of the boot gives a nice shape to my calves and balances my hips. The straight up-and-down fit of the Melissa back zips on the other hand made my calves look too skinny and created an unflattering contrast to my hips. If you have a curvy lower half I would recommend the Melissa buttons; they are fitted yet shapely and will complement your curves. 2) The Melissa buttons are very low maintenance. Unlike other reviewers I had no problem slipping these boots on and off. The no zipper factor is very appealing to me. I have a wide-ish foot and wear a size 8.5-9 and went with the 8.5 and they are just right. 3) The style of the Melissa buttons is more cool and casual, yet still versatile. They have a bit more personality and feel fun to wear. They are a bit different and this makes them awesome. I also want to note that the color and leather of each boot was beautiful (I ordered the colors that were on sale). Both colors are unique yet can still act as neutrals. I'm thinking that the stiffer brush off leather is a good choice for the Melissa buttons because it will prevent them from slouching too much. The wine color on the others was great though and I was sad to see it go. Overall I am very excited about my new Frye boots! I ordered the Frye conditioning treatment and plan to take care of these boots; I don't think I'll be able to purchase another brand in the future; the quality of Frye is just too perfect!

I had been lusting after these boots for months before finally getting them for my birthday two weeks ago. I would have had my husband order them in advance, but both of my other pairs of Fryes are different sizes (one is 9.5 and one is 9) and I wasn't sure if my calves would fit in these, as they're pretty muscular and I've had problems with boots before. Some of the reviews said that these fit larger calves fine, but they also come in the extended calf sizes so I wasn't quite sure which to choose. I decided to go to the actual Frye store in SoHo, as we live in NYC, and I tried them on. I first tried the regular style, where the 9 was a little bit tight and the 9.5 fit perfectly, but they were both pretty tight around my calf. I then tried on the extended calf style and the 9 fit absolutely perfect! My only complaint is that the colors in the extended calf are way more limited than the regular style. I had been hoping to get them in brown but ended up getting them in cognac instead, which luckily isn't as red in person as in some of the pictures I've seen. Anyway, I ADORE these boots. I have only gotten to wear them 4 times because I don't want to wear them in the rain, but the first three times they were perfectly comfortable and I only got a blister the fourth time I wore them, which was just because I was walking A LOT. They're already starting to get broken in, they fit perfectly over my skinny jeans but will look great with a skirt in the spring, and I've gotten so many compliments on them already! I love them so so much and highly recommend them! Also, I didn't know this until I went into their store, but Frye has a 2 year warranty on all of their boots. I need to get my Veronica Slouch boots resoled (and of course they're now 3 years old, and I haven't worn them in over a year because the soles are so worn out) but they said that they will resole them, and it will still be less expensive than taking them to a random cobbler. I would much rather trust the boots to them anyway! Love Frye! :)

Just got these today and they are great. I have the Veronica Slouch boot and wear them pretty much every day so I decided to splurge on a new pair of Fryes. I have to say I went back and forth on the colors. I wanted something different from dark brown because that is what my other pair is. I liked the idea of gray, but the pictures on the site did not look gray. Well, they are not gray at all. They are more like a lighter brown taupe color. regardless they are a cool color and I will keep them. For sizing my shoes are pretty evenly split between 7.5 and 8. My Veronica are 8 so I went with that as I live in Chicago and need to wear a real sock. They fit great and no problems getting them on. Another win for Frye.

Love these! I have them in two colors and wear them constantly. They hold up well over time, and are totally worth the money. They will last for years. They do break in a bit, and become even more comfortable as you wear them. I constantly get compliments and love that they are a classic look with quality leather.

These are my 2nd pair of Frye boots and I love them! I usually wear a US 6 in regular shoes and I wear a 6 in Frye as well. The fit is perfect with a regular sock, but also has enough room for thicker winter socks as well. I have small calves and find that these fit nicely without gapping too much. I purchased the Black Vintage leather color. This is a nice black color almost leaning towards dark charcoal. It has a nice not-too-shiny finish which I like. If you are looking for a black-black boot with a shiny finish, I'd go with the Black Brush Off leather. When the boots arrived, they were covered in the white, waxy "bloom" which made them appear much lighter. I just wiped them off with a dry cloth and then rubbed in some of the Frye Leather Conditioning cream (another product I highly recommend) and that took care of the "bloom". Overall very happy with these and glad I finally found the perfect pair of black boots to wear with leggings and jeans.

After reading other reviews, I was prepared to find these boots difficult to get on since I have high arches, but, Wow, it proved almost impossible! I found some tall thin socks and pushed and pushed and finally got my feet into them and it was well worth it! They are fantastic. After taking them on and off several times I am finding that each time requires less effort. If you love the look of these boots and have high arches, my advice is not to give up! The color Cognac is beautiful. I can't wait to wear them all winter.

Love these boots! My 1st Frye and I'm hooked. The leather is gorgeous and very well made. Had to use slippery socks since I have a high arch but easy to pull on. They are super comfy and perfect height/ width. I am 5'4" and a size 8 1/2. I have athletic calves so I was worried but they fit perfect. Worth every penny! I ordered the dark brown vintage leather. Also ordered the dark brown soft vintage and they were too dark and too narrow. Kept the regular vintage. I really want another pair!

I love these boots. They are gorgeous and were comfortable the first time I put them on and get even more comfortable every time I wear them. I feel guilty about neglecting all my other boots in favor of these! They are well worth the price. I wear them with jeans, leggings, skirts, dresses, you name it, they work. Now I have my eye on the Harlow campus boots.

Beautiful boots. They are everything everybody says. Wore them for 12 hours the first time and felt good on my feet all day.

I've been eyeing Frye boots for years, and my husband surprised me with these for our anniversary (he's a keeper!). They are gorgeous, so comfortable, and classic. I originally ordered a different color, but sent them back for these. They're a rich brown matte finish, not too light or dark. I wore them with an orange dress to a wedding at a ranch and they looked perfect! I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 and the Frye 8 fits me perfectly. I have small calves, but these don't gap too much. Highly recommended.

After ordering a half size down and agonizing over the still present heel slippage, I decided to take the chance and keep the shoes rather than ordering a full size down. Verdict? I probably could have handled a half size smaller but the leather does mold to your feet and the slippage has minimized after several nights of heavy dancing. The leather has stretched as well, hence my assumption a full size smaller would have worked. These boots are beautiful and well made - there's no argument they're well worth the money. I wore them out of the box, sans socks, and was able to dance/walk/spin/skip in comfort all night long. A slight hot spot appeared from friction but the leather has continued to soften and a bandaid does the trick while my feel get adjusted to being fully covered. Great purchase - I'm a Frye fan for life!

I just received the vintage leather chocolate and love them. I didn't even attempt to put them on without the plastic bag trick having owned Frye's in the past. I range between an 8.5-9 and ordered an 8.5 which fit perfectly. They are absolutely beautiful and can't wait to show them off! I'm rockin' them in my P.J's right now and I don't care. Don't be apprehensive - just order them. You will wear them forever and the more beat up they get the better they look and more comfortable they become.

Better than expected. I have been looking for a cowboy boot and couldn't find one that fit comfortably. The fit is perfect, not bulky at all. I am a true size 8 and the size 8 I ordered fit perfectly. Would not recommend sizing down! Would buy more in additional colors.

I am delighted with these boots. They look great with skirts, or with pants tucked in, or with just the foot showing beneath jeans. The antique gray, which I chose only because black was not available at the time I ordered, has proven to be a wonderful choice--better than black! It is what I would call taupe, and is very versatile. No arch support, which would usually cause me problems, but these have been fine. SmartWool socks are helpful in that regard.

The boots are a great fit. I have a high instep so it is hard to find slip on boots. These are perfect and very comfortable. I would highly recommend them to any one who likes to walk in thier boots.

I purchased these in a size 8, they are true to size, comfortable, look fantastic. I love them, super happy with my purchase. They are not cheap, most expensive boots I've ever owned, but I don't regret it for a second. Worth every penny!

I got these boots yesterday and am wearing them today. They fit fabulously out of the box. I ordered the tan; they will go well with all my dresses and skirts this spring and summer.

I love these boots! I had a little trouble with the first pair having glue on the sole, so I exchanged them, and the second pair had a button/rivet come off, so I exchanged them again, but the 3rd time's a charm! I love Fryes, and this style is so great. I kept coming back because I love Fryes so much! The fit is true to size, and once they get a little worn in and molded/stretched to your foot they couldn't be more perfect!

Love these boots! I researched several different styles of Frye boots, and chose this one because I was looking for a more fitted boot at the calf and this one had great reviews and a classic look. After reading a ton of reviews regarding size, comfort, etc. I ordered the Fawn color (gorgeous color - more toward brown tones and goes with everything!) in my regular shoe size (9 - wide foot) even though the majority of the reviews said they ran big. I got them the next day (yay Zappos!) and was so impressed with the quality and suppleness of the leather! They were in fact too big and slipped at the heel, so I called to exchanged them for an 8.5. Zappos customer service was fantastic and sent the 8.5s out that day for next day delivery...and didn't charge my credit card for the replacement pair! They also gave me 14 days to return the 9s which was great so I was able to compare both sizes. The 8.5s were perfect -- even with thicker socks! The first time I wore them I had them on for 11 hours and they were very comfortable, although I did feel the crease across the top of my feet after a while. Wore them the next day for another 8 hours and they felt great. Note that the sole is a bit slippery but after scuffing them on concrete they were fine. I would recommend these boots to anyone wanting a classic boot that's truly comfortable!
