I purchased as a gift for my 75-year old mother, who spends much time in the southeast during the winter months. The jacket fit well (true to size), covering much of her backside, and will allow a lightweight layer underneath. She compared it to a Marmot Gore-Tex and selected this item because it had a more feminine fit and the fabric was less stiff. It appears to be waterproof, although has not be fully tested. The jacket will pack nicely in travel bags and golf bags and will be a nice alternative to the standard golf rain suit. The bougainvillea is a very flattering, pretty color.

I needed a shell for my trip to Alaska that would protect me from the rain and can be layered under. This one worked out great. I'm still trying to figure out the cords on the hood and the sides, but otherwise this is a versatile jacket for many temperatures and conditions.

I am an 5'9, athletic build size 12/14 and fit well in a size Large wearing a sweater underneath. The fennel is a great green - not so springy green that it wouldn't also look good in the winter, too, and not too outdoorsy green that I look like a girl scout or park ranger. Some rain jackets are tight around my hips when I initially go to zipper it, but this jacket was very forgiving (but not too loose). Moreover, it will tighten around the bottom for people who are more slender (or for me if I happen to drop a few pounds)! :) I am thrilled with the functionality of this jacket for hardcore use. I am going to the Amazon in Peru so want to prepare for nasty buggies and rain forest downpours. The hood has multiple drawstrings that will clasp in place (even on the back of the hood, which I have never seen). It gets as snug as needed against my head, and if I go crazy pulling it all together as much as possible, I can literally make it so that only my eyes are peaking out as it can cover my whole mouth, forehead and even my nose. None other I've tried can do that to the same extent. However, I can keep it loose, too. I really appreciate how much I can move my arms around and that it is very light and not at all restrictive. It packs up very light. If I have any complaints, it is showing its wrinkles a little more than all of the other rain jackets I am trying on. I have been wearing it around the house and it still shows all the creases from where it was folded in its packaging. It could also be that the light color just enhances that. I am debating between getting this jacket or one from Mountain Hardware that I also love, but it's a final candidate in about 7 I've tried on (North Face, Marmot, and Merrell). There is not much I see that this jacket offers to make it cost more than some of the other top rain jackets I tried on other than the brand name perhaps. And yes, all the features for the hood I suppose (surely didn't cost more to make).

This jacket is a beautiful color and it works as expected to keep me dry. It is the second rain jacket I've bought from Patagonia. The first one lasted about 8 years - expensive, but worth it!

Patagonia can always be counted on to produce superior and dependable products. This is an excellent rain jacket, the best I have ever had. Lightweight, keeps me dry, and even has some shape to it, which counts for a lot! Boating in cold and rainy weather, it is the last of 6 layers I put on before donning my PFD. Keeps me dry and protected during our entire time on the water.

Bought the X-Sm in this black jacket and like the fit. Good length and style for a hooded windbreaker/rain jacket.

Gorgeous color and a great rain jacket! I wore it to a very rainy football game recently, and I was the only person whose jacket actually kept the water out and did not absorb. You have to layer it for warmth, but that's to be expected with a shell like this. I got an XS and it's still slightly large.

This jacket was perfect, great fit, comfortable, lightweight and rain proof without feeling like you are wearing a plastic bag. The material breathes and the style is quite nice. It was a home run for me.

This is a great jacket and an excellent price for such good quality. Super technical jacket with lots of bells and whistles. Ever been stuck in the windy rain with a hooded jacket that the hood won't stay on? No problem with the cinch cords on this jacket. Great inside pocket too! By the way, love you Zappos - ordered at 7pm and had it in my hot little hands before 12noon the next day.

I got this jacket because I have another Patagonia raincoat and loved it (the Rain Shadow Trench). I am a visiting nurse who visits patients in their homes in NYC so I am always outdoors in NY's unpredictable weather. I have had this jacket for a over a month and have used it all through September and October...rain can't touch me. It is also light enough to wear in warmer weather (like today, it was 70+ F) and also has kept me warm when NY recently had 40 degree weather -- great for layering. It's very durable, as my other Patagonia raincoat has been, it can be packed up into a ball to stow away into your bag, and the zippers and pullstops seem very durable. It is also low maintenance; I've thrown mine in the washer and dryer with no changes to the jacket at all. I got the gray color -- it matches my uniform and looks sporty. I love it! I do not regret the purchase and think the price is well worth it!

This is the perfect waterproof shell jacket! I got the blue color. It looks a bit darker in reality than on the computer. Nevertheless, it's still a beautiful color. I am of petite size, so the sleeves were a bit long. I would recommend ordering true to size; there is plenty of room if you want to layer with a warmer jacket underneath. I was kept completely dry while wearing this jacket. I highly recommend this for college students who are fed up with using umbrellas!!

Just took this jacket on a two week sailing trip to Maine. Lots of wind and rainy conditions. Excellent waterproof shell, breathable. The hood stays on your head (I had a hoodie under it for warmth). Zipper goes way up over chin which was perfect for my use. Blocks wind. Great color too, I also loved the raspberry color. Really good rain jacket for the price. Comfortable on your skin. Only con is it does not seem to roll up into its own pocket. I just rolled it into the hood instead.

Great rain jacket! Love everything about it, but I would go on the smaller size! I ordered a medium and should have gotten a small. After reading another review, I thought the medium would be work but I disappointed at how large it actually was.

This is the perfect rain jacket. Its fit is true to size. Typically we buy North Face but I found this cut to be more flattering. It's a great classic grab and go jacket.

This is a well-made, high-quality waterproof shell that works well in a variety of environments when worn with or without layers. Packs compactly for travel, and has all the typical Patagonia attention to details of construction and utility. My wife found the sizing on the small side, she usually wears small but wound up with a medium, so think big... especially if you plan to layer under it.

Patagonia is best; North Face maybe?

This jacket runs really big. The sleeves are far too long for me. Nevertheless, I kept it because the green gecko color is so cool. I needed a real rain jacket that would make me visible in the early morning hours, so it fits the bill. Just order a size smaller than you normally would, especially if you're on the thin side.

I ordered Pantagonia Torrentshell Jacket a few months ago and I really like it! I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a lot out here. The jacket is light weight enough to layer and warm enough to wear alone! I ordered size XS and it's still a little roomy for me. Runs big, I think. My only complaint is the drawstring attached to the side of the hood. I haven't had to use it and don't think I ever will. It's more of an eye sore than anything else. Still love the jacket though!

The jacket is very long. Normally I like things long, but this is a little overpowering on my short frame. I had a North Face jacket that finally wore out after many years. I liked it better. This seems more breathable though. I wish I had bought black. One person called me a purple person in this, while two others said they like the color. I like the zipper and Velcro closure. It does feel big. There are plastic tabs at the base of the hood that I sometimes I see out of the corner of my eye and I think it is a bug! Zappos' customer service is top notch though!

It is a beautiful, clean looking rain jacket. It is purely a rain jacket, but you can layer underneath it if you wish. Great construction and design. Keeps me dry!
