I was a little nervous when I first ordered these, because other reviewers had size issues, but I found the boots fit right out of the box. They took about a day of solid walking to break in... I haven't stopped wearing them since. They are the perfect casual shoe. They look great with jeans or chinos, but I wouldn't wear them as a dress boot. The brushed suede hides the dirt from the street well. The soul is a nice thickness, not making them appear to be clunky. I was also impressed with the traction on the wet granite streets; the shoes didn't slip! These are my first pair of Frye's, but they most certainly won't be my last.

Great looking shoe but will not stop squeaking when I walk. I would return them if I could. They squeak on carpet too. It's embarrassing because I am in sales on my feet all day!

I've had these for over 2 years. They are my favorite boots, have held up well and are just a solid, casual boot.

These boots are amazingly comfortable - the leather is supple and the boot is extremely well made. As a wedding photographer, I'm on my feet with these for 12 hours at a time, and they are the perfect shoe. Stylishly formal and supportive. The rubber surface on the sole comes in handy. I tried more than twenty pairs, this one won.

Awesome shoe...I have had so many comments on how nice they look and they feel great the first time you put them on.

Fits a bit snug across the toes. Perhaps a half size larger would be a good idea. The fit and finish are undeniably good though...they feel very well stitched together and high quality, thick leather helps!

I purchased four pairs of Frye Chukkas and returned all of them except for this model. I like my toe caps to be just a little bit pointy and all the other models were much too round. The leather is very raw so you will need to spend some time to break in the shoe.

I love these shoes. I looked quite a while for some Chukka boots and wanted something versatile and well made. After they arrived, I wore them every day for a week. They look great with jeans or khakis, and I have gotten quite a few compliments on them. I will probably be buying these in another color soon, and will definitely consider Frye one of my preferred brands. These are highly recommended!

I wear a 10.5 sneaker and 10 dress/casual shoe and when I first received these in a 10, they felt large on me. So I ordered a 9.5. When I got the 9.5 it was squeezing my foot terribly, so I went back to the 10 and wore them for about an hour around the house. Sure enough once my feet got used to them, they felt fine. These are true to size (and I have had my foot measured). They do take a few days to break in and you may need to alternate between thick and thin socks to see what suits you best. These shoes looks really great in person and are dressy enough for a formal night out or any casual event.

Very cool boots, this is a hard sole boot, feels like an expensive cowboy boot, they quickly became very comfortable. Hip and elegant.

Great boot--well built and stylish. Not designed to be a "comfort shoe," it has a traditional leather sole construction. So, it's not for everyone.

I typically wear sneakers everyday, I bought these boots to look a nicer at work and when I go out. I have worn then every day for the past 6 weeks. I had to return the initial pair as felt a defect in the inner, however; new pair arrived within 2 days. These boots are very comfortable and well made. Quality leather and sole, easy to polish/buff out scratches. Very much worth the money.

The one thing about Frye shoes and boots is when you buy a pair you know what you get. The quality and craftsmanship is second to none for the money you are spending.

I have several styles of boot made by Frye. The quality of the brand is superb. I recently ordered a pair of the Frye Oliver chukka boots, and I was not disappointed. The fit is great and there was no brake-in period needed. One difference that should be noted between the web pictures of the boots and the actual pair I received is the degree of distressing present on the leather. I ordered the sand color, and after running a suede brush over the boots they looked much more even in their color overall that those pictured on the Zappos web site. The boots could even be used for dressier occasions in my opinion.

Quality Chukka boot. Good styling that's a bit dark chocolate-y for most formal pants but goes great with jeans or khakis. Fit was good and have held up to the elements (rain, snow) well since purchasing. Only concern is that you have to keep them somewhat clean on the suede because every blemish will show clearly on the dark background.

I got a great deal on these shoes (under $200!) and I was super disappointed to have to return them. There was a *lot* of heel slippage with these, as other reviewers have noted. I have a pair of the Frye James lace up boots in size 11, so I ordered these chukkas in a size 11 as well, and they were definitely much too large. I'd say at least a 1/2 size too big, if not a full size. If they go on sale again I'll take another shot with a 10.5 and see how it goes. As for looks, the are really, really nice looking, a little different color-wise than the picture shows (I ordered the tan antique and they were quite a bit lighter) but I'm sure the leather will darken with age. Build quality seemed very good, and I'm sure they would have lasted a long time. I've had my James boots for about 2 years now and they are still in great shape.

I tried eight chukkas, five from Frye. The Oliver was comfortable but more rustic than I was looking for. The rubber outsole may be ideal for some. It fit comfortably but not like a glove as other Frye.

Great looking shoe, the two tone leather and antiqued treatment really sets it apart. The fit seems to be true to size except the heel is a little boxy but I am sure it will loosen up as the shoe breaks in. Also the heel platform is slightly angled backwards but again, I'm assuming this will fade after break in. This does make the shoe "clompy" as you walk around if that makes sense. Maybe I got a defective pair not sure. The Oliver is slightly thinner in the toe that a lot of other Chukkas which gives it a dressier look, perfect choice for my wedding shoe.

After trying the James Chukka in dark brown (had a red-ish tint) and James Crepe Chukka in Cognac (had an orange-ish tint), I settled on the Oliver Chukka in dark brown. The Oliver had a little bit different look and feel compared to the other Frye shoes as well as to most other chukkas I saw on Zappos and in stores. The dark brown is a dark chocolate brown - maybe a little browner than dark chocolate, but dark. The leather is not as soft and supple as the others. It feels like the kind of leather that will look even better as it ages. The finish is less polished than the others and I wasn't looking for a bright and shiny shoe. The sole rubber covering about 3/4 which grips the floor much better than the full leather sole of the James. I feel that the shoe runs slightly small. I normally am a size 11, which I ordered and do work, but I believe an 11.5 also would have worked. I also feel that the shoe is slightly narrow but not enough to be a problem. The shoes are reasonably comfortable out of the box but will take some wearing to fully break-in the somewhat stiff leather. The shoe comes with three pairs of eyelets for laces. I prefer the look of the two eyelet pairs and I only lace the bottom two. The heel slips some but I attribute that to them being new (and to not using the top eyelet pair). But I like this will diminish over time. Overall I like the shoe very much and don't feel like every other chukka wearer out there.

I like to think that I am a good judge of a well made shoe. Although I have only worn them once, the Frye Oliver Chukka appears to be a well made shoe. Unfortunately for me, Frye has made these a rather narrow shoe. I have a little wider than average foot and their standard width is quite tight on my foot. I typically wear a 10.5. When I ordered a 10.5 in these shoes, they fit well as far as the width goes but the length was way too long. I returned them and received a size 10 which where perfect in length but really too narrow for my feet. I am going to keep the size 10 though and try to stretch them out. I have found that there is a considerable amount of slipping in the heel. Although well made, they seem to be oddly sized. I have other Chukkas from Clarks and Born and they fit me great so to me, I just think Frye shapes & sizes their shoes weird. I do like the looks of them, seems like they will work with jeans or business casual, maybe even slacks.

Nicely appointed shoe. Good leather, very nice looks. I like the slightly pointy toe opposed to chukka versions with a rounded toe (which don't look great in my opinion). Breaks in nicely after 2-3 days wear. Negatives are that the heel construction of the last is too roomy. There is no shape to the inside of what I've seen people refer to as the "heel pocket," which allows for way too much vertical slippage of your heel. It will cause some premature wear to the inner lining. Second, there is no justifiable reason (other than for looks) for Frye leaving 2-3" of leather exposed on the toe of the sole, instead of making it all rubber like the heel and center-foot section of the sole. This would make for a longer lasting shoe and a more versatile selection for wet weather. Vintage Shoe Co. does the leather-sole-for-styling/rubber-for-durability-and-protection ratio on their soles correctly. Frye should take note.

I have to walk a lot for work and I have owned several pair of rubber sole Ecco shoes but decided to try these as something new. The shoes are without question well-built and stylish. But I just can't break them in -- even when wearing thick socks. By the end of the day my feet always hurt. Maybe I just had unreasonable expectations of a leather sole shoe, but I find myself avoiding wearing these and going back to my Ecco's.

Was fairly comfortable, but I had heel slip even though the size seemed right. I did not have heel slip in two other brands of chukkas I tried so I don't believe that every boot has to have heel slip or that it will wear in and go away. Styling was somewhat more boring than I thought from the pictures and a little too cowboy-looking on me. Had to send them back, but I think they could be a good boot for someone else.

I ordered the darker of the suede shoes and they arrived tonight. They were actually lighter than the photo on the internet by quite a significant margin, and as other people have observed, the heel slipped which made them uncomfortable to walk in. I am sending them back and will buy another pair of Frye boots instead (love my other boots!).

Look great and are comfortable to wear and yet I have thrown these boots away after few months of wearing. I wore them mostly in a carpeted office with a 3 minute walk from the car to the building each day. Not a heavy wearing, I should say, and they were not worn every day of the week, maybe 2 to 4 days a week. On the very first day, the paint on the top section of the soles just came off. By the end of the third month, the heels were crumbling and chunks were falling off. Not buying these anymore.
