This boot happened to be my first purchase from Zappos.com, as well as my first Frye brand boot. I must say, both companies lived up to the name. Zappos was fast and easy, with awesome information for the product. I don't think that online shopping can get any better. As for the boot, it was also up to the praise I have read on the internet for the Frye brand. I went with the Jackson style Engineer boot because of the toe shape and the low heel. I am not a fan of the squared off toe or the really thick chunky heels. I ordered a full size smaller than what I normally would, and they fit great out of the box. I will however be returning them though due to a small cut in the leather from the manufacturing process. I am worried that over time it could crack further and I would like to have them perfect out of the box. I do think that this is not the norm with these boots because other than that one issue they are flawless.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The Frye boots fit true to size and were comfortable to wear all day as of the first wearing. They look dressy and people don't necessarily see them as bulky boots with jeans and semi-dressy clothes. I bought them to ride my motorcycle with, and they are perfect for that as well. No regrets with the price paid so far, though perhaps the "made in Mexico" thing explains a couple of pencil marks and one or two points of "iffy" stitching. Don't expect any problems with these very minor issues. Can't wait 'til winter!

Solid shoe. I've had my pair for about half a year, and have no problems. I wear a 9.5 sneaker normally, and ordered a 9. they were really tight to start, but the leather stretched a lot.I ended up getting some inserts to fill up the space after I broke them in and they're perfect now. I suggest ordering a half size or even a size smaller since the leather does stretch for a while after you start wearing them. I'd also recommend getting inserts for them if you aren't used to a boot, since they don't have the best shock absorption compared to other shoes (which you really start to notice after walking for a few hours on concrete). All in all, I'm glad I got them. I have a friend that has been wearing a pair of Frye harness boots for the last 6 years, and they are still in great condition. Frye makes a boot that will last.

The boot style speaks for itself -- classic. The brand Frye is a no-brainer and Zappos is of course the hands-down favorite when it comes to shoes, at all.

I bought these boots for my Dad for Christmas and he absolutely loved them. They are beautifully made and because they are Frye, you know they will last forever. This boot in particular is very versatile, it can be worn casually or dressed up. It took him a couple of pulls to get them on initially (like many Fryes) but now they slip on without any problem. He said they are true to size & comfortable. I love them, he loves them, we love Frye and Zappos!

My size is exactly 11.25, and I'm glad I purchased size 11 in this boot. The fit is very good, and comfortable. I ride my motorbike in these, and the leather does require some maintenance as it is nicely finished. These are a great compromise for a boot that functional & sturdy, and also attractive.

No one at work knows I'm wearing a boot. With dress trousers, they look like regular old monk-straps. The strap is curling outward, but I'll figure that part out. Love the boots!

These are my third pair of Fryes -- I already own the black 12L Harness and Dark Brown Outside Zip Heath. Compared to those two styles, the dark brown Jackson Engineers are a little bit dressier with the lower rounded toe, but still retain a bit of a gritty boot look, especially with the buckles. The subtle darkening of the leather along the edges make the boots look a little broken in -- nice touch. The fit is very comfortable right off the bat, with almost no break-in period. Unlike the 12R Harness, these boots fit true to size, just like the Heath Outside Zips -- don’t go down a size if you order these. Finally, Frye has decided to incorporate rubber soles with the leather -- no need to spend another $40 to get rubber soles, like I had to do with my Heaths - and the sole is quite unique. My one knock is related to quality. While I’ve only examined one pair -- the ones I purchased online -- these came with a slight defect in the colouring of the brown, basically a couple of streaks of red only really visible in the light. Maybe it’s an artifact of the darkening of the leather as noted above. It’s not really worth sending them back, given my size seems to be sold out everywhere and I’ll likely be the only one who notices it.

My first pair of boots. I did not want to buy a pair that looked too "cowboy", and wanted to be able to dress up or down with them. These are the perfect match. They are rugged, yet the boot isn't chunky at the toe, almost sleek. They look absolutely at home with either regular or designer jeans. While I believe the boots fit well, I would definitely be sure of your exact size before making this kind of investment.

Made in Mexico, great looking boot, almost impossible to get on (they fit and are comfortable once on). Rear internal seam burst with a few wears, stitching near the buckle broke from pulling them on. the rear of the boot needs reinforcement so the boot doesn't crumple as your heel slides down into it. May work for smaller sized feet. Expected US made and higher quality for the cost. Next time will go Red Wing or spend more and get Alden.

I bought these about a year ago. They are my everyday boots which I wear to work (I work in an office) and when I ride my motorcycle. Within about two weeks the little Frye metal plaque on the bottom of both shoes fell off. Within four months the lower strap on my left boot had torn off and the inner sole was starting to come apart. By now they are basically junk with a hole actually forming inside the sole. These are by far the least durable shoes of any kind that I have ever owned! I would not expect this from a pair of crappy running shoes let alone expensive boots! I tried to contact Frye directly several times and have heard no response. I will never buy Frye again.

My first pair of boots and I'm sold. These are quite comfy. Reasonable padding in the sole, not much arch support. Don't try running in these (even a quick walk led to a blister). Wore them all day walking around at a conference and my feet were no more tired than usual. Great when rocking the jacket and jeans look. They definitely run large. I typically wear a 9, ordered an 8.5, and still have a little room to spare.

: I've wanted to try Frye boots for some time now and my wife gifted me a pair of these today. I'm very impressed with the quality of materials and stitching, and how soft the leather upper is. Wearing my normal size, I found it pretty difficult to sock my heel in when putting them on but the fit was perfect once I had them on. I've been wearing them very comfortably all day and expect that to even improve over time. It's been my experience that genuinely good boots feel good right out of the box and require little breaking in. The only negative I've noticed so far is some discomfort on the sole when walking on concrete. I've seen that disappear before with new shoes over time and expect that to be the case with these. Sharp looking boot, too nice for motorcycle use and don't offer as much protection as a typical steel toe boot anyway. These are great for casual wear and should last a long time. Bottom line - I'm happy with them and would recommend to others.

Perfect fit! Perfect service! OK I have a lot of boots Frye and other, these boots exceeded my expectations out of the box. I can tell break in will be very minimal, they are the most comfortable boots I have purchased. If you are thinking about these, just do it, you will be happy

Good boots. They are dressier than I thought but good for work every day and can wear with slacks or jeans. The sole has rubber but is still slippery just not as bad as full leather soles. They run 1/2 size too large so order accordingly.

These are great looking boots, and, as several people have commented, the leather is supple and attractive. That said, sizing on these is a bit complicated. Ordered in the size I usually wear they felt a hair tight out of the box, but after several sessions of wearing them they fit great. Now for the complication. There is no arch support at all. So I bought a set of orthotics (which I have used in other shoes with success). The problem is that the insole is glued in place. With the insoles in place they are quite tight - after wearing them for about four hours they are getting better. It may be that after a few days of wear they will be okay - or not. Unless you like perfectly flat insoles I would order these a half size high and plan to put orthotics in immediately.

Well constructed (leather lined inside & soft cushioned insoles) and comfortable casual boots. I would not call them work boots for their subtle design difference from real work boots such as lower profile toes, low heals and most noticeably soft and textured leather. If you want to keep your boots rather clean looking (i.e., less scuff marks and less worn in look with creases), these will be perfect. Because of their soft textured leather, they almost scuff and crease resistant, which I am not sure if I personally like in engineer boots. I want my engineer boots to be a bit worn in rather than clean. Other than that, these are great boots. Size wise, it seems they feel true to size, but the shaft is a bit narrow. If you have big calves, you may not be able to pass your heals in or pull the boots all the way up.

After wearing out a pair of Frye 12R belted harness boots, I was looking forward to purchasing another pair of fine boots. Though I was skeptical about the "tumbled leather" description on the Jackson Engineer, I ordered them. As soon as I opened the box, though, my excitement turned to disappointment. The finish on these (and many other Frye boots nowadays, unfortunately) look uncannily like a tanning-booth veteran's skin at age 70. I kid you not, my wife took one look and asked me how they managed to skin an elephant and dye it black. Needless to say, I returned them. I've yet to find another pair of non-square-toe Fryes that don't look like a beaten handbag and have a decent sole. Too bad, I used to love Frye.

I was very disappointed with this item. It did not seem like a real Frye product. The leather seemed fake. Not sure what is going on here.
