Second pair in 9 years. Wore them almost every day. I'm an office worker but avid DIY'er so while they may not hold up as long in full time construction work, I did give them a run over the years. Probably would have lasted longer if I hadn't treated them so badly the past couple years. This is case by case, but consider going down a half size from regular shoes. If they're a bit tight, that goes away after about a week or two. Then they're wonderful.

These are my casual boots. I wear them to the movies, restaurants, school, hanging out with friends, any activity besides work. They are dressy but not formal. Casual but stylish. It's made by Red Wing in the USA, so you can't go wrong with workmanship and quality. The color of the Briar Oil Slick is absolutely gorgeous in its dark Bordeaux hues and the contrasting red stitching near the ankle opening give the boot that unique look. A bit stiff for the first few days. But not uncomfortable. A couple of wears and few miles in these and they start feel to fantastic. There really isn't any arch support but you might be able to fit in a thin insole after the boots are broken in. Unless you have thick feet like I do. It's not uncomfortable without an insole but it will definitely require some getting used to. Also I would really like to thank the Zappos customer service team for their incredible service. They very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and immensely patient. I originally ordered a 7.5 but it was simply too big (normally I'm a size 8 in sneakers and 7.5 in other leather boots), 7.5 was surprisingly big. I had to go down to a size 7. The second pair came and unfortunately there was a slight "discoloration" that really bothered me, so I had to exchange them again. Basically I received three pairs of boots and sent two back within the span of 5 days. I can see myself wearing these every weekend.

Upon opening the box you could see the quality built into these boots. I had been reluctant to spend what these boots cost but after receiving them that reluctance is gone. I originally ordered size 10, a half size larger that my normal 9.5, based on other reviewers recommendations. They were too large and Zappos gladly exchanged them and of course, paid the shipping both ways! The 9.5's were snug but I have been wearing these boots for longer and longer periods at a time and can honestly say that after 3 weeks they have broken in and feel like part of my foot. The elastic goring on the sides is quite stout and I still must utilize the pull loop on the rear to get my door in but once there...wow. The stitching on the sole and the stacked leather look great and will surely last quite some time as the stitching is thick and tight. Excellent soles that work well on pavement, concrete and in the woods. I've had many compliments on these boots and when people ask who makes them, Red Wing usually catches them by surprise. I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a rugged, yet stylish boot that works well in the field, on the job or just kicking about casually.

I love these. Bought then in brown, decided I wanted black, too. The black leather is more polished, for lack of a better term. These can shine up, whereas the brown is a bit rougher. Redwings tend to need some break-in, and these are no exception. However, they start out stiff, but not uncomfortable. A bit less compliant than the brown. I mentioned they are a bit narrow, but not overly so. My foot is a bit narrow in the heel, and perhaps a little wide at the ball of the foot-these, like mine in brown, will break in to fit perfectly. I love the style-the elastic is quite firm, but works well to keep the boot in place. No regrets!

I purchased these boots already owning a pair of Black Red Wing Heritage Beckmans. That said, I knew the fit was to my liking, and expected them to be super comfortable. The left boot was a little tight for the first few days, but that is to be expected with a pair of leather boots like this. Having them for two months now, they are broken in and very comfortable. Style-wise, I find myself preferring them to the Beckmans. They are wonderful for going through airports and international security.
I am trying to think of something critical to say regarding them, but am at a loss. I highly recommend them.

I have had these for about 8 months now and really like them. For sizing, I normally wear a 10.5 regular width but decided to order these in a size 10. They were tight and uncomfortable until they broke in but are very comfortable now.

If you're looking for a pull-on, chances are you've seen quite a few by the time you've gotten to these Red Wings. You're wondering about the price differential between RWH Chelsea Ranchers and all the rest. Well, let me assure you, a cost analysis of these Red Wings - over all realms - makes them your best bet among all your choices. Along with these being the finest styling, they are thoroughly handcrafted in the industrial setting. They are real shoes, made by shoemakers. The materials and crafting are the finest. With that, do understand, they require being broken in. It's sort of like wrangling a young stallion, getting bucked off at first from a beautiful, young, still wild at heart horse, until you both get to know and trust each other, knowing you are better together than either of you alone, to become and ride on as one. You have customized yourselves to the common goal of moving forward - solid, strong, handsome, and thoroughly competent in a world where you unquestioningly count on each other like a partner in life. You don't walk in these shoes, you ride Red Wings.

Awesome boot. Wrong size. I wear a 10.5 and ordered a 10 and it was still too big. I even have 2 other Red Wings (1 10.5 one 10).

These boot fit great but beware of width. I wear 11 B in the red wing boots 923 and the Red Wing Motorcycle boots 969. These fit Just like those after I inserted a much needed Red Wing Redbed insole.
They fit great perfectly for my size and will take a long time to break in but I can tell they are well worth the money.

To me, true to size means doing homework. It is accurate on most websites regarding ordering Red Wing 1/2 size 1 size smaller. Measure your feet accurately before ordering unless you want to go through exchange stuff. A ruler measures your feet length and width and converts to measurements on line. For me, these are the best shoes made. They are American lasted, wider than European I have 3 pair of various styles and various soles and they are the bomb. I have never had an issue with break in but I do add and remove pads. I get them from ShoeCareSupplies.com.

I have been a very loyal Red Wing boot wearer for most of my adult life and these Chelsea boots are no exception. Order them about a half size smaller than what you usually wear (I'm a size 12, wear 11.5). The shoes don't have the thick insole so breaking them in is critical to the fit, which will last a lifetime!! If you wear them out, have them recrafted by Red Wing. If they get scuffed, rubbed them with your hands before getting out wax. A little TLC goes a long way with these. Overall, these are great fitting stylish boots. Thanks to Zappos for carrying such quality, American made items!

Purchased this boot to replace an old pair of Blundstone's. I have had them over a year now, wearing them in every season. Happy to report these boots are bomb proof! My only complaint has been the lack of cushion from the insole. I added a thin Spenco Insole to remedy that issue. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the boot. They are heavier than I anticipated, this is a result of the steel shank and leather footboard which give these boots a solid feel and allow for replacement of the Goodyear sole. They are stiff when you first get them but they quickly break in and now after more than a year they are supple. I mostly use these boots for work but they are stylish enough to be worn with dress jeans. I would have rated these 5 stars if not for the insole.

High quality materials and very well made. Bought these to be my slip-on shoes when taking my dog out for a walk. They were a very snug fit when they were brand new. After a few wearings to break-in, they are comfortable and fit well, overall. However, even after a few weeks of walking in them 45 minutes every day, I have to use a boot remover to get them off. They are still very tight across the top of my foot just below the ankle. A great shoe that will last for years but not the quick slip-ons I meant to get.

Great looking pair of boots - you can tell that these are top quality - the only thing I would say, and what has prevented me from giving all 5 stars is that they are a little narrow and also need time to break in. Give it some time, as they are a little stiff. Use mink oil or boot conditioner to help soften up and break in faster. If you have really wide feet, these may not be the boots for you.

I have worn these about four days (50 hours) and the elastic material on the ankle of one boot has ripped. I am not hard on the shoes and those 50 hours were spent mostly standing and sitting. Otherwise, the shoes appear to have good construction. I will likely exchange for another pair and hope my issue was a fluke. My product "overall ranking" reflects this issue. Thank goodness for Zappos; it is the silver lining in this case. Regarding sizing, my shoe size is 8½D. These shoes fit true to size, out of the box. With thick wool socks the fit is snug, but not uncomfortable or tight. I suspect the leather will either fit closer to my foot or stretch a bit over time. I could not find this model from a Red Wing retailer, and upon additional inquiry was told they were not available by Red Wing US retailers.
