Classic DMs - These were the first pair of Dr. Martens shoes I owned, and along with the 1460 series (boots in the same style), are a classic DM design. I bought my first pair in England (may they rest in peace) and they are still the best product I have found despite the fact they are made in China. So for those of you reading these reviews and trying to make up your mind, I'd say go for it. Yes, they do shred your heels and vise grip your feet for 1-2 weeks, but after you break them in, it's like walking on a cloud for 5 years. Sadly the quality of the new ones isn't equal, but I still recommend DMs because they're better than most alternatives. I think it's important to keep in mind that DM didn't move shop just to wring more money out of customers. They lost 20 million pounds (about 35 million dollars) in one year, so they made the decision to move. I'm happy they're still in business and making these legendary shoes available even though market trends are moving away from the classic styles. I'll buy DMs for as long as they're available and I haven't found a better company than Zappos to buy them from. My thanks to both DM and Zappos for respecting customers. There are so few companies now that I would say that about.

Cute shoes! I had an identical shoe like this one I've ordered from Zappos.com when I used to work at Disneyland...However, this time around I ended up getting blisters even WITH wearing thick socks (on recommendation from my sister.) I would recommend getting heel savers. Otherwise, these shoes are really comfortable once the break-in period ends. They last a REALLY LONG TIME if taken care of. I can't ask for a better shoe!

I love this shoe! I have been wearing this shoe for the last 10 years (maybe a little longer). I am on my second pair. Having heard that the style is to be discontinued, I now have 2 back up pairs in my closet. I figure they should last me till I am 60 at least!

Best shoes available - This is the 13th pair of Docs that I have owned in the last 15 years. I have 6 pairs that I cycle through the week but the black 3 eye are my favorites(Over the years I have worn out the soles on 6 pairs of black 3 eyes completely). That said, this is my first pair that have not been made in England and it seems the quality, while good, is not quite the same. Only time will tell if they last as long as some of the others in my collection. Still highly recommended!

Thrifty Shopper I am and I finally found these cheap! I love bargains, this is my passion! I have wanted this shoe for over 5 years! Finally, I found a deal! For a discounted price of my awesome greasy black 1461 series! Found them here at Zappos for over $30 off retail in the stores! Also, little story, I am 37 (divorced)and at 32 I was married and my ex-husband said I was too old for Doc's. Well I think NOT!! My first pair were MaryJane's in black. I LOVE them!! I got them at a consignment store for $5, I then purchased my second pair at a consignment store, my Brown ones for $35, still a bargain! They looked brand new! I then purchased through Zappos the same Brown shoes for my boyfriend of 4 years for Christmas at a much lower price than stores. He loves them, and wears them everyday! I then purchased a low silver boot on discount from Zappos. I love them and my boyfriend does too! Lastly, this black greasy, no eyelet Doc is my favorite and I was soooo excited to see it on sale, I saved over $40 from retail! Zappos is the greatest. By the way in sizing, I am an 8 and I take a 39 English!

Classic Docs- Best shoes - I've been wearing Docs for about 10 years now, and they are hands down the best shoes you can buy, They last forever, as long as you take care of them (buy the Docs Wonder Balsam!). The 1461 series is excellent, classic style. They are tough to break-in, though. They're very stiff and the backs of your heels will be in pain for a couple of weeks. My advice is to wear them for a few hours each day, and bring another pair of shoes with you to work so that you can change. As far as the quality and sizing stories you've been hearing about since Dr Martens stopped making their shoes in England....most of the negative comments are false. The quality of the Asian made shoes is every bit as good as the English made. The sizing is exactly the same as before, and the shoes are NOT narrower as some people are saying. The only difference is the absence of the "MADE IN ENGLAND" imprint on the insole. So go ahead, buy a pair, you'll be glad you did.

Can't go wrong with these - These are, by far, the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. They are comfortable and they last practically forever. My previous pair lasted 5 1/2 years (and still had life in them). Beware that they take a while to break in, but once they do, you'll relish the comfort.

Comfort, Versatility, Durability - When I bought them in 1997, my wife said they had better last at least five years. I am finally replacing them because parts of the sole have finally worn down. The upper is just fine. I wear these casually and to work, which is business casual. They are my foul weather shoes of choice, especially if it snows.

Excellent shoe; Excellent Service - I absolutely love Doc Marten shoes. The first time that I got on Zappos.com I was impressed and found it easy to navigate and I found these shoes for a great price. I ordered the shoes the 26th of December, and received them the 29th. I was very surprised at how fast they came, especially during the Holiday season. Thanks.

I've worn the same pair of these for over 5 years almost every day! I'm buying annother pair because The soles are finally starting to wear through.

Comfortable shoes - I love this pair of shoes! They are comfortable, easy to clean, and go with all of my slacks.

I bought my first pair 15 years ago. I've had many pairs since then. I keep going back to them. They last at least 2 years of hard use. Only one pair didn't--a motorcycle kickstart backfired and the lever ripped through the sole, but saved my foot! Weather through the break-in period and you'll be a convert. Only personal-taste issue: I've never liked the yellow stitching above the sole, I die it black.

Very comfortable shoe. Size was just right as I've had other Doc Martens before.

Great Shoes, Great Shipping, Great Service - 24 hours after my order, my shoes were at my door. I couldn't ask for more from Zappos. As for the shoes, they'r Docs, they're great shoes. A little slow to break in, but once they do, you can't beat 'em.

Classic Dr. Marten Shoe. This is a classic Dr. Martens style and fit. I have tried many shoes but I keep coming back to the Dr. Martens. Why you ask? Because after they are broken in, they are very comfortable!

It doesn't get any better than this! I ordered the shoes on Friday, they arrived on Monday, free of charge, exactly as ordered. Great shoes, what more can you ask for?

Breaking in the back of the shoe - I didn't have any problems with the back of the shoe on this style. Lucky me, huh? If you are having problems, try this: rub mink oil or vaseline into the leather, and then hit it with a hammer. Or bang them on the floor. Or take them off and step on the heels, mashing them in. Beat it up really good. Rub more mink oil into it. A friend of mine is an Irish dancer and breaks in her hard shoes this way. It makes the leather butter soft after awhile, and they'll fit your feet like magic.

Shoe size - For everybody complaining about shoe size, eg 8uk=9us. Docs do come in 1/2 sizes. I own 5 pairs(8.5uk=9.5us).

Favorite Pair of Shoes!! I bought my first pair of Dr. Martens 7 years ago. It took me two pain-stakenly weeks to break them in. My heels were all torn up, but I continued to wear them. I did three things to help with the pain. I wore Band-Aids on my right heel (I had problems with only my right foot), I took them off without untying them, and when they were off, I mushed down the back of the shoe with my feet. Even during the "break-in" period, I never wore a different shoe...this was my everyday shoe. I went to parties, concerts, walking all over Boston/Cambridge. The first pair lasted 5 years...my 2nd pair lasted me 2...so I decided to try something else (of course for less money)...BAD idea!! I'm now buying my 3rd set of Docs and will probably continue to buy only Docs as my everday shoes. They're great, comfortable, long-lasting, sharp looking, and feel like a pair of slippers (once they're broken in). I'll say this...after my first pair, I've NEVER had as tough a break-in period with the others!! So hang in there...they're awesome once they're broken-in. :) Before you know it, you’ll be telling your friends to buy a pair… In regards to size...PAY ATTENTION...they come in UK sizes, which are equivalent to 1/2 to 1 whole size larger (read sizing information)!! I wear a US 7.5...and I buy a UK 5...if I buy a UK 6, they're like wearing flip-flops!!! What other shoe have you owned that you could say you've had for years and still look the same now as when you bought them? Note...use mink oil on them once every 4-6 months to keep them clean and waterproof...

Shoe Size - To all the people complaining about it being too big: make sure you realize these shoes are labeled with British sizes...which are about a size smaller than US ones. Otherwise, great shoe if you get the right size.

I've had these shoes for 2 1/2 yrs and I love them. They look great with the straight cut or slightly flaired jeans that are in style now. I'm tough on shoes, and the back part of the soles tend to wear down fast for me, but on these they've lasted and they're just now looking real crooked. Most heels only last me about 9 months to a year. These are great. I just ordered my second pair of Docs. I have a slightly wide foot, so these worked out great for me. They do seem about a 1/2 size bigger than listed, but if you have a wide foot that's not a problem.

Love 'em!!!! I got these shoes, my first Doc's, four years ago, at my sister's insistence (she is positively INSANE about shoes, if she recommends them, I know they're good!) I wear orthotics, and need shoes that will keep them in place--good, firm, high backs--these are perfect. Well, she was absolutely right--I had to have these shoes. I live in Buffalo, where the weather can be 98 degrees (we DO have beautiful summers), to 40 below zero, and of course, there's the famous snow. I've worn these shoes probably 90% of the time I've had shoes on since I got them, and they're still in perfect condition. I also don't wear boots, unless I'm shoveling (which I avoid, make my daughters do that). So, my Doc's have gone from frozen solid to melting hot, they've climbed through snowbanks, walked through puddles (Buffalo's also a pretty wet place)--you name it!!! They're awesome shoes. AND--I've read the OUCH reviews about the heels--I never had any break-in period, these felt great from the start. I love this brand so much, I bought my daughter (the queen of shoe destruction) a pair of Doc sandals last summer--she outgrew them--but I get them!!! Spending the money wasn't a waste. Love these shoes!!!

Comfortable, Great style, Wears forever I have owed this shoes for 12 years, it still looks great, it was my first pair of Dr Marten's,(I have since bought 6 more styles of Doc) most comfortable pair of shoes I have. I wear these shoes with everything, and everywhere. The price is reduced on Zappos, so you get a awesome value. The day after Chirstmas, I went on a job interview wearing these doc and got several compliments, and I got the job to!
