Trying to be objective about this boot, which seems to have a cult like following, I found the tongue sewn way too high up the boot to be able to get my foot into it without a lot of effort. The tongue is also bulky and doesn't lay flat. Finally, the laces are too short to tie. I think these are going back to Zappos.

I finally caved and decided to purchase these because they are (in my opinion) the best looking casual boots out there. The black cherry color is versatile and looks great with everything. Unfortunately, that is where my enjoyment with these boots end. I have had this pair for a few months now and I have not enjoyed any of the break in that people have written about. Living in a city, I tend to walk a lot, apparently more than other people who have bought these boots. These boots are punishingly uncomfortable to walk any distance in and I have yet to find an insole that is thin enough to fit in the boots, yet give any degree of comfort. I guess, if you have any degree of arch in your foot, avoid this style, or order larger so you can fit a thick support insole in them. Disappointing at this price point. Lastly, the sole have very poor grip, especially in cold/wet weather.

I loved the look of this boot when I saw it and I tried every which way to find a combination of sizes/insoles, etc that would make them comfortable. For my foot, they did fit true to size and I was able to fit a thin cushion insole. Unfortunately, for a boot that was clearly made to worn around town, they didn't put much of anything between your foot and the concrete below. At this price point, I would have expected a bit better cushioning. I'm sorry, but a leather footbed does not equal a comfortable boot to walk around in. I really, really wanted to keep these but in the end, I had to go with the Frye Arkansas lace up because it was more comfortable. I know everyone says that these will get super comfortable with time, I'm just not willing to risk this much on a maybe.

Initially, I loved these boots. They look fantastic, can take a beating, are (basically) waterproof, and should be really comfortable. I bought these in January in anticipation for a 5-week Europe trip around 6 different cities, beginning in March. I wore them all around my hometown, never really able to get more than 3-4 miles out of them without them being really uncomfortable. I assumed, from what I had read, that I just needed to break them in and keep wearing them. They got a bit better during the first week of the Europe trip, then went back to absolutely horrible. My feet would ache and be covered in blisters after 5 miles, to which I would respond to by buying insoles. Then, the insoles would make the top of my feet rub against the top of the boot, causing new blisters. It was a vicious cycle. Eventually, I learned to deal with it and even walked 20 miles in one day in Paris. I almost did not make it home and literally could not walk the next day due to blisters and throbbing feet. I toned it down and kept my mileage under 8/day for the rest of the trip. They were uncomfortable but they looked good so why not. Upon returning home, I did not wear them all summer and recently started wearing them again. Finally, I was too disgusted to look at these boots when I realized how much money I spent and how uncomfortable they were. I called Zappos, told them what happened and asked how we could fix the situation. The representative responded by saying that he would return them for me as it sounded like they were defective. This is why I shop at Zappos. The best customer service and most understanding people. Thank you again.

I had to return this boot like 3 times because they all had flaws that were not acceptable.
I am not impressed with the quality control. So eventually I gave up with this shoe. Im just gonna stick with clarks desert boot.
