well, size down was small, size up is big and its not narrow at all…its wide and its noticeable visually, not because its falling off. I used all holes and it sits fine but does not look good as its wide itself. It got me wounds unfortunately, very rough. I would return if did not used. Sadly you dont feel it till you don’t walk outside enough

Because it only comes in narrow width, the next size up fits excellent.

I think these are supercute and the reviews said that even though they only come in narrow, they fit like a regular. Well...not for me :( I don't even think I have a wide foot but these are a good 1/4" or more narrower than my mediums. I had to return them.

I love these! The only reason I gave 4 stars is because one was slightly damaged on the heel.

This is my first pair of Birkentocks, which I purchased based on reviews alone. I have very narrow feet and struggle finding sandals that keep me toes from sliding over the top. I expected these to be more narrow (since I ordered the narrow size), but only work for me if I tighten the straps to the smallest setting. I like them but do not love them.

I really wanted to love these sandals, but were just to narrow. The narrow fits a narrow to a B width but no wider than that. I have a C width. I can wear the regular fit in Birks but the the narrow. My foot was on top of the shoe instead of sitting in the shoe. I wear a size 10, and ordered a 41. The length was perfect. So back they go. I did do some research and on the Birkenstock site, the Madrid is a unisex shoe which means that it comes in a regular for the guys. For the same price and free shipping I ordered a pair to see what happens. A size 41 is a size 41, whether it is for a male or female. I'm sorry Zappos does not carry this shoe for men. It would have made the exchange easier, BUT, returning this pair is easy peasy.

My first pair of Birkenstocks! Ordered a 1/2 size smaller based on other reviews and they fit great. There's a funny feeling "bump" under the toe pad that took a while to get used to, but I think it's what keeps your foot from slipping back in the shoe. Wear-in time was minimal.

The problem with the shoes is not really the shoes, it's my feet. There is a ridge on the bed of the shoe between where normally there would be a space between one's big toe and second toe. However, my big toe does not go straight out curves somewhat in and therefore, the bottom of my toe rubs across the ridge. I kept the shoes but after half a day or so wearing them, the ridge is noticeable. Probably should have sent them back, but hope they'll form to my misshapen feet.

These Birkenstocks are super comfy and perfect for warm days in the city. The patent leather makes them stylish enough for city wear and yet they are comfortable enough for long walks along the Hudson. I usually wear a 39 European size, but I go these a size down (38) and I got the narrow fit as I think it's more elegant and less vegan looking.

I love all Birkis, sandals and clogs. I prefer the soft bed, however, the regular footbed is also extremely comfortable.

Loved this shoe but, as a size 5, even the smallest shoe (sz 36) is about a size too big. Bummer. It's very comfy and cute.

These are my only pair of Birkenstock, and I have had them for 2 years. I like this style the best and they come in a lot of neat colors. Overall I am pleased with this sandal, the arch support is great which is what I need. I don't feel that the shoe has really molded itself to my foot though like others have stated. Could be just me though, it is comfortable and I can wear for a long time with no issues.

Love the shoes. Found them to be a little big for the size I was recommended. Would definitely buy again...worth it!

After reading the reviews I ordered a size below my usual size and the shoes fit perfect. Thanks you for the reviews! I had to wear them with socks to break them in. I found the upper straps to be very stiff, they hurt. Of course I don't wear them with socks, but even after the break in period they still hurt. The upper material is not comfortable. I never wear them out shopping or walking, but love them for the house. Love the support. It is my first pair of Birkenstocks. I also loved the color. To be fair my feet are very sensitive and my skin is very thin.

These are very cute Birkenstocks. They are dressier than the normal Birkenstocks. They run long. I usually wear a 37, but following reviews purchased a 36. I usually wear a 6WW and these fit. There is not as much support because of the single strap, but they fit the bill for my need of a dressier shoe which I could wear for a few hours is not much walking is involved. If you are looking for stability and support, I would not recommend this shoe. For stability and support, buy Birkenstocks with more straps or try their clogs. Four stars on comfort is really because I have RA and deteriorating bones in my feet, not because of the shoe, and hardly any shoe is really comfortable for me.

Workmanship and fit is excellent. Single strap is not as comfortable as 2-strap styles. The strap lies too close to the big toe base and rubs in a sensitive area on top of the foot. Have many other styles and would highly recommend Birkenstock shoes in general.

I bought these because I wanted good sandals, but Birkenstock is rather expensive. They were among the least expensive styles of the brand. They are comfortable and cute, but I would not recommend wearing them to walk long distances, since there is no support of your foot or ankle. I bought my size, normal width and they were way too wide, so I returned them and bought the narrow width.

Birkenstock Madrid - Bought this shoe upon a co worker's recommendation. I have falling arches and my feet supinate when I walk, thus I needed a quality shoe that looked okay with different outfits. I liked the Madrid; it's simple, nothing fancy. Haven't had arch pain, can wear it with just about anything. Follow the manufacturer's size recommendations for Birkenstock, and the fit will be perfect.

I have several pairs of Birkenstocks in wide and narrow fit, but this is the only pair that felt much narrower than any other. Very disappointing because I love this style.

For comfort and simple elegance, these sandals are on target. I hoped these would be good quick on and off sandals for around the beach. I'm sure they would be fine in sandy conditions, but on my kitchen floor, they were very slippery. Not a good quality in foot wear, so I'm returning.
