I'm usually skeptical when reviewers claim their shoes are comfortable right out of the box....But, wow! These hiking shoes are just what I've been looking for-- lightweight and flexible, but with firm, grippy soles. I have an uncomfortable bunion, plus generally wide feet, and while I can usually find shoes in wide widths, often they are equally wide in the heel, and the heel slips a lot. Not so with these Merrell Moabs. The toe box is roomy but the heel is normal-- just like the average wide foot. I haven't taken them on a hike yet but have tromped around the house with them on for a couple of hours, and they feel great. Bravo to Merrell and thank you to Zappos.

Got these because I walk a lot - inner city living, no car - and had a stress fracture in my foot, my own fault because despite walking miles a day I was cavalier about footwear. Ordered these (never had Merrell) before, put them on, and wow. Fit is excellent, very true to size, I'm a 38 wide or 39 medium and got the 39 medium, fine with thicker socks. Light yet robust. Good stability, rigid enough in the sole to help the stress fracture but still flexible. Arches I can't comment on; I have high arches so never feel shoe support, but seems it would be helpful if you need it so I put it at moderate. Seems to be a little wider in the toe box than a medium; but that was good news for me.

Normally I wear 7.5 but ordered 8 and that was perfect. Easy and very comfortable with good arch support. Wish I would have chosen the more feminine color but that's nothing against the shoe!

These shoes are true to size. They are very comfortable and give great support. They are very light weight which is good since I spend 8 hours a day on my feet and these shoes get me through the day.

Normally a size 8.5 in most dress shoes (sometimes a 9). I go up to a 9.5 or a 10 in running shoes typically (Brooks). Ended up with a 9 in these and had to order them in wide because the side of my foot squeezed at the top. I've never been a wide in my life!. These are slippery when wet, but feel great climbing dry trails. No hotspots. My fiance is a men's size 11 (neutral shoe) and ended up with a 11M. Can't wait to try these day hiking in Banff!

These are by far the most comfortable shoes I have...and the best for working in the yard! I've had two bunion surgeries and my feet are fussy. These provide plenty of support. In fact I'm purchasing another pair for when these are wet and muddy.

I wanted a shoe that was lightweight and comfortable but also rugged enough for a day of walking in the city or country side. I need them for my upcoming trip to Ireland. These shoes are perfect. I'm a size 6d and these have enough width and lots of room in the toe while proving good support on the ankle. I'm thrilled!

A beautiful, comfortable shoe. I usually wear 6.5 but chose 7 in these because of sometimes needing to wear heavy socks. I think I will get a lot of wear out of the Merrells. Zappo's cannot be beat!

So comfortable -- right out of the box! I have very wide feet with a high instep. Always have problems finding comfortable shoes but these are AMAZING!!! Like walking on a cloud! Highly recommend!

Great shoes so far. I have wide feet, especially in the toe box, and struggle to find shoes that fit me well. These seem to be comfortable, light, and supportive, and the soles are nice and grippy. I tend to prefer shoes that are very light and flexible, but the whole point of hiking shoes is to have more support than that. These ones are quite comfortable to me even though this is not the kind of shoe I naturally gravitate towards. The arch support was a bit lower/farther back on the foot than I'd prefer, but I easily remedied this by cutting out a half circle shape of 1/4" thick foam under the insole--this is something I generally do with all running and tennis shoes, so it's probably just me. I've worn them within the city so far and will be taking them with me for a longer vacation where we'll be hiking most days, so that will be the real test.

I returned a pair of Merrell's that squeaked when I walked. Replaced them with this pair. I have a narrow foot but I am able to tighten the laces so they fit comfortably. They have a soft fit and great for walking. Thanks, Zappos.

My old Moab Ventilators have seen me through lots of hikes and are very comfortable. This new pair did not disappoint. You do need to order a half size up from your normal size. The fit is comfortable - you can adjust the laces for a better fit. The color is more grey than tan - sort of a stone color. Goes nice with the blue (aluminum/marlin) trim.

These are dream shoes. The moment my foot and then the other one hit the floor, I knew this was the right fit and comfort. It hugs well without being too snug and was great doing hiking that was semi-strenuous. They provide good support and are very comfortable.

I love this shoe! I have problem feet and have a tough time finding the right shoe. The toe box is wide and roomy and it has great arch support. I like them so much, I'm going to order more in different colors.

Great shoes. My third pair. Perfect fit for me with flat feet and in need of good balance in a pair of shoes. (Nike shoes never fit me, too much of a built in bump where the arch should be.)

Nice shoe! I actually love it but am returning it because I followed others' feedback saying it ran a little small. I ordered half-size up and it is too roomy for my liking. I'm keeping my Merrell Grassbow Air instead.

Theses are so comfortable right out of the box. I have plantar fasciitis and wide feet and these could not fit better. I didn't even buy them in wide. You can walk all day and then some and your feet will stay happy. I am hoping that Merrell does not alter this show at all.

I loved these shoes as soon as I took them out of the box. They have a nice appearance and are very comfortable. There is plenty of room in the toe area (that is great for bunion feet!) I did order a half size larger based on other reviews and was glad that I did.

I bought the Merrill Moab Ventilator as a lightweight walking/hiking shoe for summer. I have very bad feet that hurt most of the time and need good support. I usually remove the insole and insert my own. I did this with my Moab's but they weren't comfortable so I put my Sole insert on top of the one Merrill provided and they are fantastic! We live in the mountains and I've been wearing them on my walks to the local stores and post office. Definitely a good find. Based on recommendations, I ordered 1/2 size larger than I usually wear.

These are my go-to shoes for trail and urban hiking. I also use them for around the town shopping, etc. They look great with jeans, especially the Aluminum/Marlin. They offer great support and cushioning for my feet. For around the town, I order size 5.5. For trail hiking I order size 6 because it makes it easier on my toes going downhill. Plus, I usually wear thicker socks when I'm hiking on trails. I have been wearing these shoes for years now. They are 'wear' ready right out of the box. No breaking in. The soles are flexible which means they are best for light hiking without a backpack.

I haven't had the chance to actually wear my boots on a hike just yet (thus, the 4 star for comfort), but having taken them for a good walk I was impressed with the comfort of them right out of the box! A little bit of sock adjustment may be needed for some tweaking here and there, but otherwise, these feel great! Reviews said to order slightly larger so I went with my running shoe size, 10, and this seems to be right. I have a narrow foot with a high arch, these feel supportive of that arch. I do need to cinch the laces in pretty tight to have the feel snug, but I have to do this with most of my shoes so I'm OK with this.

I bought the smoke - goes with all my black pants. Fits true to size but toe box is roomy for my medium/wide foot which I don't mind since my feet normally swell up a little when I'm out hiking. Good looking shoe and lightweight, especially compared to hiking boots from the good old days. I chose this over the waterproof version since I don't plan on hiking in the rain.
