Oh Merrell, why oh why did you mess with a good thing? These were to be my second beloved pair of hiking shoes. My first was just like these, purchased one year ago. I've worn them through, I love them so much. This new incarnation is a sorry second to the first pair. I am an 8.5/9 so I buy 9.5 in Merrell. These came with some new fangled insole that made my heel go numb and pushed my feet to the front of the shoe making it feel a half size too small. Sadly, I didn't want to believe that they weren't as good as the first pair and wore them hiking, determined to love them. Oh, cruel shoes that made everything below my knees sorry. I sent them off to my sister who's foot is an entire size smaller than mine. She is in heaven, loves them, thinks they are great. Buyer beware...it will be a love or a hate encounter with these shoes!

These shoes ran at least a full size too small, which seems to be the situation with most Merrell shoes. Also, I agree with another reviewer that pointed out the weird way the sole wraps around the sides of the shoe. It put pressure on the sides my arches that caused numbness and tingling. Perhaps if they were available in a wide width that wouldn't be a problem. Merrell shoes seem geared towards narrow feet. :)

I really wanted to love these. I purchased the taupe color, and I like the way they look. I also purchased a full size up since these were for hiking, and I wear the thicker hiking socks. I've worn them on 2 hikes. They're perfect on flat trails and going uphill - extremely comfortable. Coming downhill, however, these shoes were so painful on my big toes, I felt like they were being smashed inside the shoes. I guess it's due to the construction of the front of the shoes, but it's much too hard a surface for my toes to endure. I will only be wearing these on hikes where I know all the trails are flat, which is disappointing, because I like to hike mountain trails. I won't be purchasing Merrell hiking shoes again.

Never thought I would return a pair of Merrells. Didn't fit well or feel right, and not great looking either. Returned them and just got some Keens which I love.

I ordered these to replace a pair of Ecco light hikers. Since other reviews said they run small, I ordered both 10 and 10.5 - not necessary, the 10s fit fine. But the shoe feels cheap and uncomfortable. Returned both.

Nice shoe overall, but with less lateral support than I'd hoped. Same goes for the mid-height version; I'd ordered them to replace my old Montrails, and they don't do that, either in fit (loose at ankle, not roomy in ball of foot) or in step trajectory (the line of travel of each step from back to front of foot).
I'd also recommend:
Montrail, Salomon. Lowa, for better mid-foot support

I found this shoe to be moderately comfortable. The sides of it do hug your foot on the sides of it in a bit of a peculiar way. I ordered an 8.5 and, for that reason, had to exchange for a 9. It's a cute shoe, but not as comfortable as I'd hoped for. I didn't want to tear them off at the end of the day, but neither did I want to leave them on any longer than necessary.

Looks great. Fits well - I wear a 10 wide in dress shoes but an 11 in sports/hiking shoes. I got the 11 and it fit great with plenty of toe box room for my bunions. It seem like after hiking in these for about 30 minutes my legs and hips start to ache. It is not a sharp pain but I'm just uncomfortable. These shoes have the special QForm Comfort midsole that is supposed to be specifically for a women's stride. I do have kind of a boyish figure, so maybe this just does not work for me. I am going back to New Balance.

After reading the reviews I thought these would fit my wide foot but alas, they are very tight. If you have a wide foot, these shoes are not for you. Love the style and color though.

For light hiking and normal park like terrain, these shoes would have been awesome! They did provide nice ventalation for the feet and I did not have terribly bad sweaty feet like with other hiking boots. Unfortunatly, these shoes were clearly not made for hard-core moutain hiking in very, very primitive terrain. I agree with a previous review that the soles were too thin for this type of hiking. I had massive blisters on my feet despite breaking the shoe in and wearing really good hiking socks. The shoes were just painful to walk in. Once again, I believe it was the thinness of the sole. I believe if these shoes had a thicker sole they would have been spot on. I really regretted tossing them but the terrain tore the inner-sole up too badly to be used again. The outside held up really well and after 6-8 hours of hiking for 8 days in the High Atlas Mountains, the outer lug soles looked new. I would definatly own another pair for state park hiking but definatly not for rugged hiking/climbing.

I am huge fan of the Merrell shoes and have several pairs of different styles range from sandals to loafers to mules. I was disappointed that these did not run true to size as all of my other Merrells did. The arch support was great, the width was great, the shoe felt wonderful, it was just a little short in length. My toes hit the end and at size 11, I am at the top of the size Merrell makes. Otherwise the construction and support of this shoe is fantastic.

I'd heard these shoes ran small so I ordered a half-size bigger, no mean feat when you wear a 10 to start with. My big toes are still hitting the end of the shoe so these are going back and I hope to find a gigantic size 11 that will fit.

Merrill seems to be following a trend where, to make a reasonably priced shoe, quality is compromised. I have found this to be true with several styles. I have a pair of Merrill hikers that are 10 years old. The exterior is beat up however, the insole is still far more supportive than the Moab Ventilator. If you are looking for a shoe with good support, look elsewhere or consider purchasing an insole. I use Superfeet but will not make the investment for this model.

I wanted so much to love these shoes, but unfortunately, they just weren't comfortable to me. The cushion felt flat and the arches seemed off. I have several pairs of Merrell's and have typically been very happy with their products. Unfortunately, this pair didn't make the cut and are getting shipped back.

Loved the look & tread & arch in this shoe but for some reason the right shoe did not fit correctly. Ran true to size & width but the heel felt off on the right shoe.

I have really high arches and unlike my other Merrells, these just didn't have enough support. A good part of the middle of my foot wasn't touching anything and that makes for very sore feet at the end of the day. Zappos makes returns so easy.

After ordering and rejecting 12 other brands and styles, these were the winners for my European vacation. The Toes seemed roomy, breathable mesh for hot days seemed a plus. There is also good shock absorption. However, there is some weird non-quite-right arch support that hits below my actual arch (toward my heel) that hurt me so badly they did not come out of my suitcase again.

I love the look of these shoes and they seem really sturdy. Unfortunately, they have too much arch support for my feet. Felt like a hard (but smooth!) rock nestled in my arch so that part was very uncomfortable though everything else seemed great.

Unfortunately I had to return these shoes because they didn't feel good on me. The tongue is too long and thick and irritates the corner between my leg and the top of my foot when I walk. No way would I be able to hike long distances with that sort of irritation. Also, the shoes are very stiff.

I had high hopes for these shoes, given the excellent reviews and higher than I normally spend on walking shoes price. I am not a returning type of consumer, mostly because I like to wear them for a few days to get a true feel for my shoes. They are okay - but I do not love them. They feel a little heavier than my last pair of shoes (Skechers). There is zero arch support. With a name like "Ventilators," I expected them to be nice and cool. Nope. My feet get very hot in them. They will be horrible hiking at scout camp this summer, which is the whole reason that I bought them. The shoelaces will not stay tied unless double-knotted. Oh, and most of the reviews said to go up half a size, especially since I usually have wider feet (I normally wear size 8W, I ordered 8½M). That was a bad move. These things are like boats on my feet. There is too much room in there. On the plus side, they look nice and seem grippy. But they make my feet hurt. I am pretty disappointed.

Merrell runs about a half size small. The arch support also hits my foot too far back instead of in the middle. Great look and well constructed but had to send them back after walking around my house for 5 minutes. Too bad.

I returned these because there was no arch support. I don't understand all the reviews that say there is arch support. When I tried them on, I couldn't feel anything touching my arch, which means there is no support.

Very comfortable if you are able to have the right fit. I normally wear 8-8.5 for sneakers and ordered these also in these two sizes (shoe size is 7.5). The 8 was too small (my toes hit the front of the shoe) and the 8.5 too large. I would have kept the 8.5 but the tongue was too bulky and was rubbing the front of my leg. Returned. Still in search of a good hiking shoe.

I am bummed! I purchased these to use on the Appalachian Trail in 2015 so wanted to break them in during my training. First day just walking on streets (live in New Orleans) I had worn Therlo hiking socks used to prevent blisters. They felt a bit tight even with an extra half size (your feet swell during a thru-hike like the Appalachian Trail) so I was wearing winter socks to take up the extra space. I did not get a blister this day. I put them on today using a summer sock of lighter weight so they would not be snug and walked up several times the ramps of our four story garage in the apartment complex. I had to stop I got a blister on both feet on the inner heel area. My husband checked it out (he also got a pair) and found the inserts at the bottom of the shoe were improperly installed causing a point which did the rubbing. Glad I found this before the hike. I have Superfeet insoles ordered to see if I can salvage this pair of shoes. Zappos sent the order right off so good customer service but not next day delivery like some people's reviews lead me to believe. I also cannot just return them as we lack a post office in our area. Maybe I should have went local for the first pair - so that is my fault.
