I believe these slippers are dangerous for people who have hardwood stairs. I do not recommend them for the following reasons. I was fairly happy with these slippers until the first time that I slipped and fell. I was going upstairs (hardwood stairs) and not paying any special attention, when I found myself falling. My shins and forearm got banged up. Though I blamed myself, I started paying more attention to the slippers. They really do not have anything that keeps your heel in place. The photo is misleading. That is really a floppy piece of cloth and it bends outwards as easily as inwards. I started noticing how the slippers tend to separate completely from my foot when walking up the stairs. It is different than when walking on a flat surface. So I started trying to hold them in place by pushing my toes up while taking the stairs. All to no avail. A few days after Thanksgiving, I was talking while going upstairs and was not paying attention. Boom. Down again, this time doing real damage to the ulna in my forearm.

I wear a 9 4E in New Balance and Nike sneakers. I could get away with a 3E but I just prefer a little extra room, particularly in the toe box. These slippers are wide enough, but I also have a high arch and... the problem with these slippers, a high INSTEP. These slippers aren't high enough for me. This means not only a tightness across the instep but a problem sliding all the way in, and thus my heels don't quite make it into the footbed. My heels want to crush the heel "surround". Yes I can bend over and finger the heel surround, but that defeats the purpose of slides. I also cannot assess the toe box because my toes don't get down there. One other thing, I only needed to have them on for about 3 minutes before they started to feel hot. I'm used to sheepskin. Back to the expensive Old Friend, I guess.

I wanted to wear these slippers around the house and out in the patio, but they are so tight and uncomfortable, I can't wear them at all. My foot is size 12, I ordered size 13 W. I'm very disappointed after waiting so long to get them.

I ordered what a though would be a size both somewhat larger and wider and I would normally purchase--because these were to wear around the house as slippers. They seemed to be OK when I first put them on, but a bit tight. I thought that they would expand with wearing, but they instead got tighter and more uncomfortable. By this time is was too late to return them, of course.

These have been worn strictly indoors on polished cement floors. The bottoms are coming off. Disappointing! My husband doesn't want to go through the return/replace business and is tired of looking for slippers, so I'm stuck looking at the bottoms falling off.

I wrote another review several weeks ago, but I don't see it here. The piece of cloth glued to the bottom of the outer sole started to peel immediately. The stitching that hold the uppers to the sole starts to come undone immediately also. They feel comfortable at first, but become like walking on cement bare footed within a half hour. They are a complete waste of money.

Two years ago I had a pair of Rockport slippers. They were really comfortble, but fell apart in a few months, but were much better than the Deer Stags!!!

I'm no leather expert, but to me the suede upper is nothing close to suede! It seems to be a cheap poly-blend. I replaced a pair of Fitzwells (that were real suede) that I loved (no longer available), and wished that I had bought a spare pair of those. Cheap slipper, not even worth the low price (should have been my indication that they were junk). I'll see how they hold up, but I am disappointed.
