Sent them back because of the tongue. The tongue of this boot wrapped a long way around my ankle (because only one side is free to move) and really dug into my ankle. I have had very good luck with Dunham boots (now owned by New Balance), but these are a big step backward in terms of comfort.

Beware of these boots for multi day hike. The ankle support is very stiff and start to rub painfully against the ankle and the lower shin. They work fine for 6-8 hours hike, but starting on the 2nd day, the continual rubbing of the ankle support causes painful sore. Unfortunately, I did not find out about this until I am on my 2nd of a 4 day backpacking, and needless to say, it was terrible. Every step was agonizingly painful until the end. I bought this based on positive reviews. Maybe it is okay for short hike, but I strongly recommend taking these on a multi day trip. If you touch at the top of the ankle support, you will find a hard ridge that turns inward, which is the main source of the problem. Too bad it's past a year!

I need a shoe that is a 15 4E so for a lack of any other option I was going to keep these. Then I decided there was no way I could spend this much for a pair of boots that lack function and quality. The eyelets are not a single unit, they are held together in two pieces. I needed something more durable than that. I felt that it would surely break after a couple months of use. The other negative things were the monogussetted tongue. That has got to be worst option for a hiking boot ever. It doesn’t make any sense and is not practical and is uncomfortable.

New Balance makes a low quality hiker. New Balance should be ashamed for selling such a low quality boot. After one year these boot are ready for the garbage. They have fallen apart. The EEEE is a very narrow fit and the mono-gusseted tongue (who's idea was that?) had a very long break in period of about one month worth discomfort. I walk about 5 miles a day along railroad tracks and hiking trails with my dog. The Garmont Sherpas I owned lasted for eight years. Save your money and invest in a better quality boot.
