Finally a 4E Hiking shoe! I have searched everywhere for a decent Hiking Shoe in 4E and this is truly what I have been searching for. Be sure to break them in before you hike though or you will get a blister. No more crushed feet, though! I highly recommend these!

Sizing Inconsistent - The left boot fit fine, however the right one was far too narrow, more like a D or E than the 4E it was supposed to be. I'm returning the boots.

The boots are well made; somewhat stiff at first, but they\'ve broken in well. This is what I\'ve come to expect from New Balance. I wear New Balance athletic shoes and boots almost exclusively because ther are one of the few manufacturers that make an extra wide size (4E). My latest pair, though, does not hold true. Out of the box, they were too narrow, even though I ordered the 4Es. I should have returned them. They\'re broken in now, and still a little snug, but they\'re usable. I believe that they were mis-marked, but be careful if you have wide feet. New Balance may have changed their sizing template.

I liked the look and feel but the boot was just too small. My feet are big but I've purchased enough shoes that I'm sure the size I ordered (11.5 4E) should have been wide/long enough. But the shoes are too narrow! I guess I'd advise you to consider getting a size wider.

Just tried on the 2 pairs I ordered: New Balance 1201, Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR. I usually take 10EEEE in New Balance athletic shoes. I ordered the New Balance in 10 1/2 EEEE, and the Merrells in 10 1/2 wide. I ordered the Merrells because I read someone's comment somewhere that he had very wide feet and liked the Merrells. I had little hope that the Merrells would fit, since they don't even make an "extra-wide", just regular and "wide." You should know I have a high instep, a bunion on my right foot, and wear [relatively thick] custom orthotics. I tried the New Balance first, after getting hiking socks, and replacing the insoles with my orthotics. I walked around a bit, tried lacing them a little differently because of some tightness around the ball of the right foot. They are high, covering about 1.5 inches above my ankle. Bottom line: they were acceptable. They would not make me happy, but they might do. I tried the Merrells and, to my great surprise, they went on. I really expected that I would not be able to even get them on my feet. They are lighter, more flexible, feel more like athletic shoes than the very definite "boot feel" of the New Balance product. They are mids, i.e. they come up to about ankle height. I walked around and discovered they tended to feel slightly loose around the heel, perhaps because of my ordering the half size larger. On the other hand, it's not like there's a huge amount of room in front of my toes, so I don't think the 10's would have fit well. There's a bit of a trade off between keeping my heel snug, and providing enough room for the bunion, but bottom line they are much closer to what I'm looking for, and I'm keeping them. Hope that helps.

Bad Sizes - I have been trying to replace my favorite pair of light hiking boots that I've had since 2000, and thought these might fit the bill. My foot has grown & expanded over the years, (My Military boots went from 10D to 11EEE) and since make/models of shoes/boots keep changing, I can't depend on any one size/width to fit. - My running shoes are NB 12/4E. - I order two pairs (11/4E) and (12/4E) to try on. Both were a little tight on width, and too short on length. Here's the kicker... The 12 left shoe was actually significantly shorter than the 11! - Some other issues I had with this shoe: -- The loop on back to pull the shoe on was barely big enough to get my pinky into, need a man-size loop! -- The cut of the shoe around the ankle was uncomfortable, ballooning around the front and sides, with the back open to the elements. -- The tongue is attached to the shoe up the sides, so there's not free room to pullout the tongue to slide the shoe on, or to insert my orthotics (arch supports). - All that said, I would have kept a pair, had either one fitted.

Big Disappointment - Zappos, as usual, is superb on customer service. No complaints there. The problem is that while I really like the look of these shoes, they're extremely uncomfortable. The fit was good, if a little too roomy, but I kept them thinking they'd break in. Nearly 9 months latter, they still haven't broken in and I hate wearing them. Another big problem is they won't stay tied for long for some reason for me and I'm always having to relace them which gets annoying. The prior NB shoes I had were the best I'd ever owned, and I went back to them despite them losing some comfort simply due to flattening out on the insole due to several years of wear. Still preferable than these monsters.

I bought these from Zappos for my husband because of difficulty in finding 4E shoes locally. He loves them - they look good and they are extremely comfortable for hiking and walking. The service from Zappos is great.

Good product. Bought to different pairs of wide hiking boots and was only able to choose one. Choose this pair.

I don't like these boots at all. The lacing system is difficult at best. The lacing lugs are very flat with little room between them and the shoe, also the laces are wide and flat requiring you to have the laces turned the correct way when you insert them into the lugs. I also have a lug pulling out of the leather within the first two weeks. I would not buy these again. This is the worst experience I have ever had with New Balance.

This hiking boot is a true winner! Have had no trouble keeping the laces tied as reported earlier. NB must have read the feedback and designed different laces. Have hiked in Maui mountains in 80-deg temperatures and feet remained fairly cool. Haven't tested its waterproof claims yet, though. Great traction on rocks from the Vibram tread, good padding around my ankles. I lace them loose for going uphill and extra tight for ankle support for steep downhills. Fit and comfort are very good.

This is one of the most comfortable outdoor shoes I’ve ever owned and is perfect for what it’s designed for, day hiking in varied terrain. It might not have the support needed for one carrying a heavy pack for a long distance and major ascents and descents. But for spending a whole day in thick woods, mud, even shallow streams and up and down rough hills and relatively pathless woods, they’re great boots. I especially appreciate all the room for my toes and ball of the foot: the lasts of other outdoor footwear I’ve tried are not a perfect fit for my narrow-heeled and wide-front feet. They’re not extravagantly durable: mine look as though they’ll be pretty well worn out in another three years or so, and of course their soles cannot be replaced. But for the price, this is for me a great boot, and I’ll be a repeat customer when the time comes.

The perfect fit for outdoor activity in the winter; they are comfortable and have great grip on ice and snow. I've had good luck with New Balance products.

For me New Balance makes the most comfortable shoes in the world. These shoes may look like hiking boots but they feel like N.B.'s tennis shoes. You can jog in these things if you wanted to, really! I love them. At first they did feel a little narrow, but after one day they feel just right. They aren't heavy or clunky like other hiking boots.

From the ankles down, I am a mutant: 4E width, hammer toes, ingrown toenails, bent toes, flat arches. New Balance has always been the only footwear that fits well. This was my first heavy duty hiking boot from NB. Out of the box, it is more comfortable than any hiking boot or hiking shoe I have ever owned, including NBs. Truly a remarkable boot.

I bought these boots for cool, wet weather hiking in the Arizona desert. They felt good, although somewhat stiff, on my feet when I first put them on. After wearing them around the house for a couple of hours, I walked a mile or so in the desert to see how they felt. They were fairly comfortable and didn\'t give me any blisters during my first excursion. \r\n\r\nSince then I have worn them four or five times and they are getting more comfortable as I wear them. They seem to be sized appropriately as I ordered the same size I always wear. I hope they will loosen up a bit as they get broken in. They aren\'t uncomfortable, but I would hope they get more flexible as time goes on.\r\n\r\nOverall, I was very pleased with Zappos ordering experience and with the boots that I bought.\r\n\r\n

I have used Zappos several times over the years and always satisfied with the products, delivery, and customer service after the sale. The shoe string hooks on my new boots; broke after two uses. I contacted Zappos to find out what could be done. The quick reply wasn't about the boots, but to let me know that a new pair was on the way. I received them the next day. I am a customer for life with Zappos. It is rare to find such customer service in this day and time. I don't even shop price any more. Zappos is competitively priced, plus free shipping and quick delivery.

Put about 40 miles on these boots and they have worked well so far. Comfortable out of box with minimal break in required. Good ankle support. I wear orthotics to correct over pronation, so it is very easy to twist my ankles but with these boots on, it’s not a worry.

Real waterproof shoes - These are comfortable as any hiking shoe I have ever had. Unlike the rest, most of which suggested that they were waterproof, these truly are and at a great price at Zappos!

Since my last pair of New Balance hiking boots wore out (I hiked them to death) I have been patiently waiting for New Balance to come out with a new hiking boot. They finally did and they hit a homerun with the MO1201. My foot is a wide 4E, but not quite a 5E. To complicate matters I also wear orthotics due to high arches. As a result, finding a boot that fits properly has proven to be difficult to say the least. I got the perfect fit from the MO1201 by going 1/2 size larger than I normally wear. On top of that, THEY LOOK GREAT!!! Also, very rugged and well made.

Great light work shoe - I was looking for a shoe to wear for yard work, in my shop and that was waterproof when I go fishing and have to step out of the boat at the ramps, but I needed a very wide width. New Balance has always been a good shoe for me, and they came through again. This shoe is very comfortable, gives me plenty of room for my hammer toes, and is nice and lightweight. Great shoe!!

I have had NB running shoes and had good luck with them so I thought I would try the hiking boots. They are made well and seem to have plenty of support. I have not put many miles on them yet but have finally broken them in to the point that I know they are keepers. I will put them to the test on a trip to Alaska and then to Montana.

Needed a good pair of lightweight boots for work at a Home Improvement Store. As usual, Zappos was the best with their service and selection in a size 15. I don't have enough room to put all the nice things about Zappos here. The boots were good on style, but the comfort factor was rough. Fixed that with new insoles and the boots are perfect. I thought NB boots would be a little bit more comfy, but I guess NB figured they were making a boot not sneakers. We love Zappos!

I bought these hikers for my husband. He really likes them. He has really wide feet and we have trouble finding a good fit in a regular store. He wears a 12 4E. He has said they are a bit hot sometimes. He loves the way they look and they will be great especially in the winter.
