NB MW749 - Runs very narrow.

Don't fit properly - I like the look of these shoes, however, the fit is something else! Narrow in the front and wide in the back. I have a 4E wide foot, and I had to order the next half size up (making them too long) just to get the width right. I love New Balance, but they didn't get it right with these shoes.

Shoe fit is 1/2 size smaller than stated. Had to exchange 10.5 to 11. Shoe is comfortable and fits well. Would prefer a larger arch and more breathable.

Comfy but a little narrow. Color was a little darker than sample photographs and narrower than a typical double E size.

Nice walkers - They are a good shoe for walking, only complaint is they are a little heavy.

Size and width one notch small - These shoes would have been very comfortable if the width and size matched other New Balance shoes. They felt a half size too small and 4E felt like 2E or narrower.

Until this shoe I always had good results with New Balance shoes. The sizing on this one seems to run small. I still have the predecessor of this shoe, MW748, and it is one of the most comfortable ever.

Disappointed in sizing. Brilliant shoe, but the size 9 4E feels like an 8.5 EE. I am a loyal New Balance customer - need the width; but it feels like NB is hedging on their classic width sizing.

I returned several pairs of shoes before settling on the MW749. I was looking for a sturdy hiking/working shoe that would still be sufficiently lightweight for everyday casual wear. After a brief break-in period I have found the shoes to be very comfortable, easy to wear everyday. They are not, however, durable. In less than six months the leather sides are now tearing away from the sole of the right shoe, leaving a 3-inch gash. The shoes remain comfortable, and the soles have held up well, but the flimsiness of the leather uppers make the MW749 useless as a serious hiking shoe.

Runs a lot smaller than the MW747 - I ordered a half size larger based on comments about this shoe running small. They weren't kidding, these shoes run very small. I have an older pair of MW747 in size 10 4E that are a bit too big, but the MW794 in 10.5 2E runs very small. I have no idea what size and width to try. What happened to New Balance? They used to run true to size, but I'm finding their current sizing is all over the map.

Great looking shoe but odd fit - This shoe looks great - not too casual, not too professional. However, as another reviewer pointed out, these shoes are EXTREMELY narrow in the front and way too wide in the back. The shoe literally pinched the front of my foot, cutting off circulation, while my heel would slide up and down in the back of the shoe while walking. This shoe looks great, but has a very odd shape for my size 11, medium width foot.

NB MW749 - The shoe is one size smaller than it says. It is comfortable, but not as comfortable as previous New Balance shoes have been that I've worn. I have noticed a decline in overall quality and size consistency of New Balance shoes. It looks like its time to try another brand.

I have been wearing the AL last 700 series all over the world for years. It is (was) my everyday shoe. Now it has all changed. The new 700 series is too narrow and too short. I had to go up a full size to get a fit that is only okay. And it is easy to judge the change based on the orthotics that I wear.

Not much cushion - The 749's that I bought have a very hard feel on my feet, they lack the comfort and cushion that I would expect from New Balance. Also, I originally bought a regular width and had to exchange them for a wide width. i've owned many pair of NB, never needed a wide. These shoes are pretty much of a disappointment for the money and for the NB brand.

Disappointed with color - I owned a pair of brown MW748 that I wore out. I had a 9 wide. These fit similarly, but were of a disappointing color. The brown is lighter and greyer than the MW748 shade of brown ... I thought it was quite ugly.

What is New Balance's Version of Wide? I have moderately wide feet, so I ordered a size 9 4E. The actual width of the 4E is not any wider than that of a size D. The toe box is narrow, and my feet still hang over the side. The heel is so wide that my feet slip right out when I walk. NB should make the actual shoe wider for 4E instead of just lazily adding more material to the heel. Other than that, they look great and are durable, but still extremely narrow and uncomfortable.

The shoe is well constructed and attractive, however, after wearing the shoe for one day I experienced a great deal of foot pain. All my shoes are a 10M as these shoes were, but the fit was not true to size. Unfortunately, I discarded the box and now I am stuck with the shoe and have to purchase additional shoes. Rather disappointing.

Disappointed - New Balance for me has always fit right out of the box. This pair although labeled 2E is too tight and hurts my left foot to the point I've stopped wearing them. The only good thing is the outer sole which is hard. I walk 5 miles every day on black top and need something that resists wear.

Disappointed first round - What a bummer this shoe is. I order it in my size and it not only feels a full size too small but the EE isn't even close. I could barely get this shoe on my foot and when I did it was horrible. If you’re a real man with real man feet then go to a store to try it on first. I love Zappos but my only gripe is not being able to test fit it first. I'm going to try a bigger size and 4E width but my feelings for New Balance are pretty low at the moment.
