I loved my last pair of DM oxfords so much that I wore them until my big toes wore through the top of the shoes and the soles flattened out. They lasted for years. I was excited to get these, and it feels like DM has changed the fit and feel for the better! I've been wearing DMs on and off for about 20 years now because of their comfort and durability. These feel really good, and I have a hard time finding great shoes due to a major foot injury plus subsequent surgeries. DM is still the great shoe that I've loved for so many years. And thanks to Zappos for their excellent customer service!

The shoes feel great. The leather is thick and the back of my heels can get pretty banged up. My trick for breaking in Docs is a patch of moleskin over the bone below my achilles, wear 2 pairs of socks, and wear the shoes while walking around in the apartment for a couple of hours a day. The place where the tongue is sewn to the inner side of the shoe (where the laces end) was tight on my right foot. I used a small microwaveable buckwheat heating pad and warmed up the leather while wearing the shoes. The leather stretched beautifully. On day 5 I wore a single pair of socks and went out walking normally. The shoes were broken in and I even used my kick scooter the next day. I normally wear a women’s US 9.5 medium. I got these in UK Men’s 7. I lace them snug and they have a slim profile. My feet don’t look huge like they do with some shoes.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Let me preface by saying that I love only ever worn DM’s that are made in England and I’ve had several pairs dating back to the 90’s! The quality is far superior to the Asian-made Doc’s. That said, I ordered these 1416W’s because my Made in England 1416’s were back ordered so I got this Zappos pair for a trip I was taking. I planned to give these to my daughter when my other Doc’s arrived, but I didn’t expect to be so pleasantly surprised with this pair from Zappos! Let me tell you they are so comfortable pretty much out of the box, as long as you wear thick socks and prep the back of your ankle with a couple bandaids as a preventative measure while you break in the shoe. It only took a few days of fairly non-stop wear and I was good to go. The “W”, by the way, means women’s and not “wide” so they are slightly more of a narrow toe than the unisex which is more flattering to the foot, and closer to how the England 1416’s look. As far as sizing, I always take a UK5/US7 in Doc’s and I typically wear a US7.5 to 8 in most shoes. I’m really right in the middle of 7.5 and 8. The size I chose fits great. These shoes do stretch some with wear, so if they are a little snug with thick socks at first, that’s ok. They will loosen up a little and then you will be good to go with thinner socks. Now, I’ve seen some very plastic looking Doc’s which has always turned me off from Asian-made, but this leather looks much better than I thought it would, and has just the right amount of shine to look more authentic to the brand. Very pleased with the comfort and the look of these! I think they are a couple steps up from most Asian-made Doc’s. Compared to the England 1416’s, the leather and craftsmanship is still better on the England and the stitching and way the leather is cut is also much neater. However, I would say they are both similar in comfort level. The main difference is there is a thick insert in the Zappos pair that feels makes you feel more lifted but it is also removable. If you’re on the fence, I think you would really liked these shoes. They are really versatile too as they can be worn with nice pants, jeans, dresses, etc. As a long-time DM lover, I’m really happy with the quality, comfort, and the style!

This is an incredibly comfortable shoe. Highly recommend it but Zappos is the real star here with great prices, free shipping and the best customer service department in the world. I don't buy my shoes anywhere else!

Love these shoes, always wanted a pair of Docs and finally have a pair, one day hopefully I can get a pair of the boots. One of the shoes is tight on the top of my foot, the tongue/laces area. Is that normal for Docs? It's only on one foot I've got this issue, I've never encountered that, never had that as a factor for breaking in a shoe. They do feel stiff but that's common with new shoes especially of this material.

I bought this shoe to replace a pair I have had for about 10 years (heel was worn beyond repair). Unfortunately, they don't make them like they used to. The shoe is much more bulky and the back is so high it cut into the skin above my heel. It's now at the shoe maker. I am hoping he can make them wearable.

You can never go wrong with Dr. Martens. These are the classic shoes and are durable. They run about a half size large. I size up and get the insoles. You need to break them in a little but they are so comfortable once you break them in. I love them so much. I own 4 pair of different docs. One of them is over 25+ years old.

Love these shoes! But admit had to take them to shoe repair shop before wearing to break down\/soften the heels. They hit at a perfect place for a painful blister. After softening them up, and wearing with socks and bandaids a few times, the shoes are comfortable and easy to wear. I normally wear a 6.5, and the size 4\'s fit perfectly.

Doc Marten's are great long wearing shoes. I have owed one pair for over twenty years. This pair will be my first with women's sizing. I like the adjusted arch support and the improved footbed. I have a wide foot. It appears that the shoe has a wide enough toe box.I'm still trying them out. I have not worn them out or off carpet as yet. I like Zappos 365 days return policy and fast shipping.

I received the shoes one day ahead of time which was great. The shoes were a bit uncomfortable the first week or so on my heels but soon after I broke them in. I love the white Doc Martens. They go with everything, especially my jeans!

These shoes are awesome. If you are a person that likes to be noticed, these are the shoes for you. I bought a pair directly from Dr. Martens and it took 2 weeks to arrive. Bought this pair from Zappos and came the next day. You can't beat that! Just a little note: If you are not familiar with Doc Martens, they are a little heavier then most shoes. And they don't have 1/2 sizes. I love Zappos. Their service is amazing. I will be a customer for life.

These shoes are a little masculine; however, I kind of like it. I love the style; however, I went through hell to try to break them in. I've had them for a couple weeks and they still aren't completely broken in. It probably takes a good month and a half or even two to break them in. Like other Docs, once you break them in, they are so comfortable.I bought this shoe in cherry and it looks great. I secretly want to buy the Pewter Koram Flash ones.

Dr. Marten's oxfords - I'm so pleased Doc Marten's came out with an oxford without the yellow stitching. I can wear my comfy, sturdy Docs to the office. Hurray for removable insoles - my orthotics fit. My 1461s are a year old, I wear them daily and there's still little visible wear on the shoes. These, like my other Docs, should last for decades. Detracted one star on Look because although they are "unisex" and sold in the women's department, they do look rather masculine.

This was my first purchase at Zappos. This was one of the best transactions I've had. The shipment was very fast and the product is as described. Bought these shoes before; they are one of the sturdiest pairs. They needed to be replaced not because of the wear and tear, but because my daughter outgrew her other pair. I have purchased again from Zappos and would highly recommend them.

In this trend of minimal, barely covering your foot shoes, my Dr Marten's provide sturdiness and support with comfort and indestructibility. If it is your favorite shoe, you will have it until you become tired of wearing it. This white oxford will be my summer shoe for years to come.

Awesome!! I've been waiting for Dr. Martens to make a dressier oxford shoe without the yellow stitching. Finally here it is! This shoe is very comfortable and well worth the money. I'm considering buying two pairs as I wear them for both work and play.

These are iconic shoes in an awesome medium gray color but what I did not count on is how stiff and hard the leather is and it would probably have broken my feet in before I could get the shoes to fit properly. They are heavy and seem supportive enough in the sole but since the inset is not removable I could not use my orthotics and I noticed that there was a gap in the ankle area where I pronate. Too bad because it was a decent fit in heel and toe box.

Great shoe! It comes out of the box pretty stiff and needs to soften up quite a bit before you can wear without heel protection. But perfect in every other way.

Great all-around work/play shoes - I've got arthritis in my knees and have a hard time finding stylish funky shoes that also have enough support to get me through the day AND are nice enough to wear to the office. Hooray, these work. Give yourself a good two weeks to break in, though - they're not "out of the box" comfortable.

I cannot believe I waited so many years to get these. Like 30 years. Why?! I love them. Out of the box is tight and you will definitely need some bandaids for the first couple of wears...but soon after that the leather stretches and your docs are good to go.

I got these for my daughter, I haven't been cool enough to wear Dr.'s since college (though with this style, I think I may go back!). She LOVES them and they were comfortable for her right out of the box. We were trying to find the right shoe for her to wear with a black dress skirt and cardigan for a college interview. She's NOT a heel or even ballet flat kind of girl, so I knew an oxford style would be perfect. Her other favorite pair of shoes is the Dr. M's boot, so this matched her personal style to a T. It looks SO cute with the preppy clothes, just the right amount of funk.

I want to say I LOVE these, and I think I will with a bit of time. I've wanted a pair of Doc's forever, finally took the plunge. They are beautiful! I read the reviews, and bought down a size as people recommended. I'm normally a 9.5 US and sometimes a 10. Got the 9. The length of the shoe is perfect! It's the width that is going to take some breaking in, and I do not have a wide foot. It's not super narrow either, but never wide. So my average width 9.5 size foot fits in the 9's lengthwise, but is very snug width wise. I refuse to return them though, as I'm sure they will loosen with time. Plus I just adore them so much.

Bought these shoes because I just LOVE the menswear look! Had doubts about the fit after reading all the reviews, and I've only worn them once, but I know they will work out just fine. Size and width were true to the US size 9 (UK 7). As stated in reviews, they were a bit stiff, but I'm anticipating they will soften up with wear. That said, the first time worn they didn't chafe or hurt (I did, however, keep them very loosely tied!). Cool shoes!

I am a hip Grandma who has worn Docs for over 30 years. They do run a bit big, but for me this eliminates the break in period. They are heavy shoes, so I only wear them in the colder months with good socks.
