I purchased these boots about a year ago and am just now getting around to writing a review. These boots were fantastic! Except for some slight discomfort while breaking them in they were very comfortable and amazingly durable, until just recently when the sole and upper started to separate, which I believe was largely due to where I was working before it happened. I work in the pipefitting industry and am in and out of various chemical, paper, and power plants, stepping in all kinds of hazardous corrosive chemicals on the job, and through all that they withstood the test of time. It was only after they were soaked in extremely concentrated bleach that they finally bought the farm. Typically a pair of boots lasts me for a maximum of 6 months, and to last a year, I definitely got my money's worth. I would recommend these boots to anyone working in my or any similar industry that needs a tough, safe, dependable, and not to mention comfortable work boot. Hope this helps!

Thank you Zappos for offering a great industrial safety boot product at a very fair price; the service and speed of delivery (at regular price mind you) was fabulous! This was my first order from your company, but it will not be my last! Thank You for placing customers first! Dottie Weirich, Oklahoma.

True to size. I like the foot bones guard; it does get hung up a bit where the shoe part of the boot meets the ankle part of the boot. These would take some getting used to weight wise I planned on using them for work with lots of standing, lifting and some walking. Moving or mechanic style might be cumbersome, but for not getting down days from crushed bones the trade off or adjustments to crowded conditions is probably worth it. Up and down stairs, no; maintenance with heavy stuff, yes.
I'd also recommend:
Danner,Bellville,Altana steel toe not as durable or comfortable as non steel toe but better than shoes or sneakers.

Foot wear for welders - Be prepared for looks when outside the work environment as they are not ordinary looking. That being said, I find these boots safe and comfortable. Having inadvertently tried out the metatarsal shield with positive results and wearing the boot for two weeks compels me to recommend this footwear. Staying real, the left boot broke-in immediately; the right boot took two or three days until tongue and lacing system got on the same page- until then top inside ankle was voicing some opposition. Also, as a person with high instep and arch, the lace-up fits very well though do not notice much arch support. This boot stands up to the welding and cutting environment of shop fabrication and I will buy another pair.

Timberland Rocks! I have owned these boots for a little over a month now and have nothing but positive feelings about them. I work for the railroad in a steel mill environment and these boots are holding up great. They are very comfortable to wear and my feet still feel good after a long hard 16 hours at the mill. The boot seems to be very well constructed, as expected from Timberland, and the waterproof design is exactly that, not just water resistant. I would recommend these boots to anyone who works in an extreme environment and needs boots that can take daily abuse.

These are great boots for the welding/fabrication environment. These boots are heavy, but have plenty of protection where you need it. The met guard gives a bonus of protecting your shoelaces from welding sparks and slag. I have worn them almost a year now and am very pleased. They took a little while to break in, but it was not unbearable. I wear thick, memory-foam insoles that do not fit in a lot of boots. They fit perfectly in these boots; that is a major plus for me. One downside is that the met-guard does not allow your foot to flex too well if you lock it down too tightly. Another downside is that they trap moisture a little bit. I solved this problem by removing the insoles every night and opening the tongue really wide. By morning they are dry.

Great shoe, I have had the chukka style of this and decided to go with more ankle support. On my feet 10+ hours a day and these shoes are comfortable. The main goal is safety and these provide a lot of metatarsal protection, I know, I guillotined a piece of 1/4 steel like 3 ft by 3 ft into the shoe, felt like someone had lightly stepped on my foot, no damage to me at all. Great shoe, great comfort, great service all at a good price.

All about osha - Boots work well. Run a little big and show wear prematurely, but anything does in a welding shop. Laces are a joke, break easy. Do lots of torch cutting and slag hasn't burned through ‘em yet.

I'm a welder/fabricator and everyone in the shop needs new boots at least twice per year. Not me. These last a full year and I've never seen the steel toe once. As long as these are made I will never buy another boot for work.

I bought these for my son for his job as an electrician apprentice. He loves them even in 90 plus degree heat. They are a little heavy but non insulated which makes them pretty comfortable.

I will make this quick and easy. I love these boots! I got them about a month ago after weeks of trying to decide if the met guard was too much and would not flex when squatting at work. I had worn Caterpillars previously but the quality had started to fade and these were exactly what I was looking for. I am constantly standing in water and using various chemicals and degreasers which haven't left a spot on whatever these are made of, they are the best boots I have had and I will buy them from now on. Zappos got them to me in the blink of an eye as well.

I work in mining, and I do a lot of different jobs and when I was looking for some new boots I found these. I have been wearing them for all most a year so far and I love them. They are the most comfortable boot I have found and I wear them all the time day and night. I have also sold a few pairs to my friends and they are just as happy with them as I am. Just a great boot.

I wear them handling very heavy steel rollers. They protect my metatarsal and toes very nicely. Good look. Easy on laces and tie up well. Insoles need arch support. No support provided in stock insole, and sewn stamped logo on insole is hard on heel. Please avoid putting that on future insoles. Add better arch support.

Pros: Great for fabrication shops if all you do is move, weld, and cut metal and other things that have to deal with high heat and heavy equipment. Cons: I ordered mine in wide width (EE-11 1/2) but they still feel just a little too thin than what they are supposed to be.

I picked up a pair of these when Redwing stopped making the met guard boots I wore for years. I decided on these after reading the positive reviews. A few things about them, they are heavy. It must be the steel in the toe but quite a bit heavier than standard timberland boots (x2). They squeak when breaking them in, and the first month of beak in are agony. But once broken in they are comfortable. The upper leather tore after about a week and the speed lace hardware cuts shoe laces even p-cord insanely quickly After about 6-7 months of use the met guard tore off. I contacted Zappos and they made everything right to my surprise! I now really like the way the boots feel and look but unsure if I'll buy another pair.

Fell apart within a few months, had to cut off what was remaining of the met guard and they lasted a few more months before the insides exploded.
