Hunter rainboot - The boot is roomy in the foot area but the leg area is tighter - and no I haven't been told I have muscular calves.

Fashion and Function - The Hunter boot has become both a fashion statement, rain or shine, and a boot of functionality, rain. Order a whole size smaller than your real size. It is roomy and comfortable; just don't wear it for long drives. The rubber shaft does not bend as much as you want for sitting in the car and changing pedals, this is the only time the boot becomes cumbersome.

Great wellie! Great for the rain. The bottom is a bit clunky for my taste, but it's the classic Hunter look. They run huge so size down at least one size. The shaft is also very tall. I am 5'7 and it hits right below my knee - if I was any shorter, it might be too tall.

Great Versatile Boot - I wear an 8, and I bought the 38 and the 39 based on the online reviews, which seemed to be mixed about going down a size vs. staying with your own size. I had a hard time deciding because both fit, but it was a matter of what I wanted to wear them for the most. I ended up choosing the 39 for versatility on more fronts. Tucking in pants: I will be wearing these to commute a lot, so I tried both sizes on with jeans and work pants. The 38s made my jeans bunch up and my work pants balloon out like gaucho pants -- the 39s looked better overall with normal (non-skin-tight) pants tucked in. I have thin calves, but the extra room of the 39 doesn't look as awkward in a skirt as the bunched pants look in a 38. Socks: The 38s only worked with thinner wool socks. A thick sock was really cramped. The 39s were a bit big with only thin wool socks, but I'll be able to get an insole, wear thick socks, or even buy the Hunter Wellie Sock for them. I will definitely need an insole if I decide to go sockless, since the 39s slip off with every step without socks or hose. Regardless, the 39 was again more versatile and I will be able to wear it many more ways that the 38. Height: I liked that the 39 came up almost to my knee. I have another more "fashion" pair of Wellies that's pink patterned and shorter, so this will be more useful in the winter. I was surprised that there was such a noticeable difference in height and diameter between the 38 and 39. Comfort: The 38 was a little hard to take off compared to the 39. Arch and ankle support of the 39 remains to be seen, but better to add insoles and socks than to be too confined. I was tempted to keep the 38 because it's a little more delicate (if you can say that about this boot), but I wasn't looking for a delicate boot to wear with thin socks only. If they had come in half-sizes, that probably would have been best. Depending on your purpose, you might want to go down a size, but I was happy with the size that corresponded to my regular shoe size.

These boots are very heavy and hard to walk in. Yes, they shed the water away beautifully, but my legs were quite tired from lugging them around all day, and I'm not a weakling as I run marathons! I was disappointed in this. Also, the overwhelming smell of Latex every time I got back in my car was quite off putting. Not sure why these get such great reviews, but I think I could have done better.

I wore these boots all winter and spring for two years. They were perfect after I broke them in. If you have thicker calves, you might want to consider the wider width options. I would sometimes spend a good 10 to 15 seconds pulling off each one when I got home. Also, the material split in numerous places last summer so they were still mostly okay for this past winter as long as I didn't trudge through any slush. If you can afford to replace these boots every couple years, then go for it. If you're looking for something more durable, I'd suggest looking for a different brand which is what I'm about to do right now.

I really wanted these to work because they're more slim fitting and stylish than other rain boots. They worked great for the first couple days, but then started rubbing against my foot in an uncomfortable way and now are too painful to wear for longer than a very short walk.

I ordered a pair of black 8's (I'm usually a 7.5) because I was worried a 7 would be to tight in the calf. The 8 had a lot of extra room and came with a broken buckle so I sent them back without even wearing them.

Love the style of this boot - however, I cannot fit jeans inside as they barely fit around my calves.

I've been looking for rain boots for a while. Never found the right style. I'm not crazy about the logo being front and center. It looks obnoxious. Sort of like look at me. I had bought the shiny black at first then returned them for the dull black. A much better choice. All the other colors and shades are nice as well. They're in Nordstroms. They run about a half to a whole size bigger than true size. The foot and the calf run big, but then what do you expect from rubber boots?

This shoe runs about a size too big. My roommate and I had to order a size smaller than we normally wear.

These boots are made with latex which is a no go when you work in a latex-free school district due to student allergies. Very sad I had to send back.

Not supportive enough for me for hiking fields and woods. And too tall, too narrow in the calves as others have warned. The mens' Balmoral that is currently on sale right now was a perfect alternative though! Check it out.

I got the Hunter Original's in olive green. They look great! That's about it for me. The buckle hurts when I cross my legs and snags my pants. They also smell. One of the reasons I bought Hunter rainboots was because the research I did said Hunter's didn't have that rubbery rainboot scent compared to other brands. I believe they do. Might not be as bad as other brands, but it's mild and existent.

Overall, these are excellent boots. My previous pair lasted three years and I wear them walking to and from work essentially every day from fall through spring. They are terrific for rain, of course, but they are also great winter boots as long as you wear them with the "welly warmers" or other thick, warm socks. After 3 years of near constant wear I finally got a new pair this fall because the heels were wearing through in the back. With all this praise, why just a 3-star review? One boot in my second pair of black Hunter Originals discolored significantly after a few months. The right boot was almost completely gray, while the left boot was still black. Customer Service reported that Hunter's position is that this is not a defect, but rather a normal "blooming" effect that should go away if you wash the boot. I was skeptical since the boots are exposed to the same weather conditions (why would one boot change so drastically and the other not at all?), but I tried washing the discolored boot. It made no difference. Luckily, Zappos Customer Service is the best ever and they are exchanging them for me, despite Hunter's fairly ridiculous position that this is normal. Hopefully the new pair will not experience this issue.

I have a new respect for people wearing these boots! They fit - but the way the rubber bends on every step, they just dig in to your legs. I am spoiled wearing Uggs, I guess. I am returning because these are so not me. Maybe I need to find a shorter rubber boot for the puddles.

The buckle came away from the boot shaft after having owned the boots for less than 10 months. Zappos is replacing them, but will not replace again as is understandable. I would expect a higher quality from Hunters than to have this happen. Hopefully this was a fluke and the next pair will last.

These boots rub the back of my heel in the wrong way, causing blisters. I know other people who have had the same thing happen to them. There are other boots with similar style that are available for less, and just as sturdy. I would look into them before making a purchase.

I definitely should have ordered a size up. I'm hoping they stretch a little and are more comfortable in the colder months. they are adorable and seem well made. the sizes are just a little off. my calf is not big by any means, i have thin legs and these are tight! the foot fits right but they are snug in the shaft. certainly won't be able to stuff jeans down in them. this makes them shift awkwardly on the foot and rub the back of my heel.

I love these boots! I see celebrities wearing them and thought I had to have a pair. I ran into a couple problems. First, I have narrow calves, and these boots were SUPER narrow. They fit much more snug than felt comfortable, and I definitely could not have gotten them over jeans or even tight leggings. I am going to try the other Hunter boots that supposedly run wider through the calf. Also, I didn't think they ran an entire size larger. I wear a 7 1/2 in all shoes. I ordered a 7 and they were too short. I should have sized up to an 8.

A little too clunky for me. Not comfortable at all. I'm a neutral foot and the arch felt very strange. Tried original and short but both are going back

I loved the style of these boots. I have to have boots that come with a "wide shaft". Unfortunately, Hunter hasn't come up with a boot with a "wide shaft", so I've had to return 2 different boots from Hunter. It's a shame, because I really love the look of several of their boots. Hunter...please make your boots available with a "wide shaft"!

Bought these boots for my teen daughter. The leg was way too tight to allow jeans to be tucked in. I was very disappointed. I noticed other people mentioned a similar problem so this must be a bit of a design flaw, not accommodating anything but pencil legs. Re-ordered the shorter version...very cute.

These boots are very cute, I got the iris color, which there seem to be no more of, and I loved them. Until I tried to get them on. I am a soccer player. I have athletic calves, but I am only 5 feet tall. These were way to tall for me, and way too tight! I needed my friends to help me get them off because they were suctioning to my legs! I am getting the huntress ones, so that they will fit, but over all, I would have been on cloud 9 if these fit me.

It is a shame that these boots just do not fit! They are adorable and the footbed feels like it would be so comfortable! For those of us with very athletic calves or to the curvier girls out there, these boots to have a very narrow shaft. Getting them on was not the hard part, but taking them back off was a doozy! The actual footbed feels like it runs about a full size larger than marked. I wear an 8½, ordered these in an 8 and my foot was still swimming! Although, as I mentioned before, the actual shaft of the boot is very tight. Also, they are very tall. I am 5'5'' with a regular inseam and the top of the boot was right at my knee, they made me feel like I was about to go fishing or something.
