Great find and great buy -
I was so very pleased to find this boot because in 2005 I really wanted this boot but the price tag was $450.00 I was very disapppointed and decided that I really didn't need the boot. I was thrilled to find the same boot on your site and the price was perfect for my budget. Thank you so much for making my day.

Frye 12R Harness Gaucho -
Its about Service, Service, Service and Zappos has got all 3. Not only do they honor the 110% guarantee but they will even beat it by offering better shipping alternatives to get the product to you faster than the competition. The Sales Staff have been trained to take initiatives that make good business sense when dealing with the customer; something that seems to have been overlooked in most businesses. As for the Frye boots, well they are well made, true to fit and comfortable to wear and have a great look.

What Boots Are Supposed to Be -
Not my first pair of boots, but my first Fryes. These boots are so comfortable, well-made and sturdy that I don't anticipate needing to buy another pair for a long time. Excellent workmanship, the kind you don't see often these days. Highly recommended. (I think they look pretty cool, too.)

Instantly a classic boot in my day to day activities -
So, I decided to give this brand a shot due to the fact that the Carolina engineer boots I wear daily for motorcycling have reached a nice ripe age of over 13 years. Don't get me wrong the Carolinas still feel fantastic but I itched for something more. These have filled that desire very nicely. Pulling them on I am immediately taken by their great fit. They required just a few hours of wear on a warm day to feel just right. Also through the break-in period I noticed that they have an outstanding sole compound giving great traction and feel. No slip and slide in these boots. My toes are in contact with the forefoot area's upper leather but it is becoming less and less of an issue everyday.
A great boot and good example of you get what you pay for.

Outstanding!
I had not owned a pair of non-lace up boots in quite a while. I ordered these in a wide as I have slightly wide feet and also flat feet. They were here in 2 business days! Quicker than expected, and I received emails updating me on my order status as well. These boots are extremely comfortable from day one, and are great looking on top of that. I will buy Fryes again, and I will get them from Zappos most definitely! I hope that the Calvary model becomes available in wide (PLEASE!!!!!). :) The Gaucho color is perfect.

I had a pair of these as a teen. I wore them after a cousin got them for Christmas and didn't like them. His mother was not happy about it and my mother said she'd buy them so she got them for a good price. I did everything in so much so that years later at my 25 year reunion (now many years back) some of my old classmates said they remembered me being 'taller'. It was these boots! I had them on all the time. We were a shoe poor family. I grew up in WV where I got hand me downs from my older cousins and being the oldest when I left home at 19 for the service to be active duty my brother wore the same boot and used them for even rougher tougher things than I did. He rode motocross with them on! They took it! We resoled them three times as I recall. Maybe more but I doubt it.
Are they are great boot! Yes. Anything manufactured can ship out bad ones though so one bad apple doesn't mean they are all bad. Could the great ones be better? Yes in fact they could. I wore the Frye boot of some sort all through the early part of my life. Combat boots, western wear in these 12R boots, and hikers. I own several pairs of others and Frye Earl, a great hiker at a great price.
In respect to all said above about these 12R boots I had my problems with the boots sagging! The shaft dips, sags, droops, whatever you want to call it it's bad. Even the pictures of the used ones show this. Heck some of the new ones show and haven't been worn much if at all. The shaft will drop. It won't stand up on it's own and they are difficult to get on. These are a man's boots! If you are an elder like I am now and have joint or hand and grip problems you may run into what I did and struggle with these. I would say get the 8R all these problems are gone.
For whatever it's worth I have known people that embroidered their 12R boots and this wing pattern from Harley or some other emblem on the boot shaft shapes it right up nice and holds it up like it should. Frye should offer this even if costs them more and it costs us more! I had to go to Justin Bent Rail square toe wide boots (EE) with the rubber sole to get the pull on holes due to my thumb dislocation problems as a senior so to me the 8R is the solution but I must say they are not as good for riding on my Harley as the Justins with the longer shaft but you know what do you do? You write a review and hope they listen that is what you do. I hope to see Frye offer some pull on and embroider features on an otherwise perfect boot! Maybe the shaft foot enter area could be less 'bell' shaped with better more senior or clumsy oriented pull on. Other than these experiences of mine these are flawless American boots of a timeless design.

Loved this boot made in the USA. Unfortunately I have a high arch and high instep. Struggled to get the 10 D on. If you are blessed with no high instep this boot might work. No problem I returned the boots, and bought made in the USA Justines that fit my high instep and arch. Good fit. These Fryes are spendy, but high quality if you want a good boot. I highly recommend you try this boot.

I purchased my first pair of Frye's, Campus, in 1975, I loved Frye Boots then, and I still do. I do wish they had lined shafts, but the fit, the look and the comfort are all good. They do take a bit of breaking in, but after getting them on, the hardest part, they feel great.

I owned Frye and other boots in another era. These boots appear to be as well made as they used to be (sad to say that is not true of many other products today). Truthfully, I probably won't give them a taxing workout until Autumn-I don't ride a bike which assuredly they were intended for, it is simply too hot for boots right now. Just wearing them casually now but they are a handsome looking boot and appear to be well made and will wear tough-believe me I have torn up all types of footwear. I look forward to wearing them on a constant basis. As a side note being a big history and Civil War buff I think it is really neat to own a pair of boots that traces its lineage and roots back to the Union Calvary 1863.

I own so many pairs of boots they fill up a room. I wear them almost every day and ride my motorcycles in them, also. I have 3 pairs of Fryes and this is my fourth pair. They are good-looking boots and appear well constructed but don't expect them to be "dark" brown. They are tan but nicely dyed. Lots of people recommend buying a half size smaller than you normally wear. This would have been a mistake for me since these boots are very hard to get on even though they are the correct size for my foot. They are tall boots with a narrow shaft and no zipper which makes them look good but makes for a wrestling match to pull on. Zappos' service is always great.

The Frye tag on the inside of the boot rubs my leg and feels awful. Otherwise I love the boots.

My new Frye's -
The look and color of the boot were better than expected. The size didn't really match my usual size worn. I hope with more wear and breaking in, the boots will become more comfortable.

Great, classic boot. Minor fabrication issues.
I'm generally pleased with the Frye harness boot purchase I made from zappos--a great looking boot with a classic design. Zappos shipped this item for free and it arrived several days ahead of its expected arrival date. The fit on these boots is terrific and I am sure I will enjoy them for years to come. For the price, however, I expected more attention to the detail in the construction of the boots. The stitching near the collar of the boot is a little irregular and inexact. Hardly an issue that would prevent me from making a similar purchase in the future.

I bought these boots about 2 years ago. The stitching at the top came off on one of them after not even wearing them 10 times. I don't wear them that often so I was really disappointed to see this happen. Other then that they look great

Same workmanship as in years past?
Though the Frye Harness looks great, upon closer inspection, quality has been cut. From boot to boot, leathers may not match. Also it’s very dry from the dying process...they'll need conditioning. The sales lady and two other peopled I've talked to said to expect major heal slippage. I've found this to be true and have purchased heel pads to counter the problem. Also, expect a very heavy pair of boots! But they look great.

I bought a pair of harness boots in the spring of 2020 to replace update a pair I.ve had for about 12 years. Loved my original pair, new pair is just not as well made. The leather seems lower quaility, I've had stitching issues, and the heels don't seem to want to stay on. All in about eight months time. These were my favorite boots I've owned, this is probably my last pair. I expected more for the price and made in the USA.

Ordered 2 different sizes of the same boot to try, neither had stacked leather soles as stated in the product description, both "dark browns" looked entirely different, and one set had a Frye label sewn in, the other did not. Tried sizes 12 and 13 but the right boot in each set seemed to be identical in size. Returned.

I bought these boots in October. After my first time wearing them, the right boot started developing bad wrinkles across the top and continues to get worse. The left boot is perfect. Now the right boot has developed an irritating squeak as I walk. The stitching on the pull, on the inside of the Right boot has also started to come apart.

Went to buy a new pair and the leather was very thin compared to my current pair. Frye also lowered the quality of the materials used to build the inside of the boot.

I bought these boots in the same 8 1/2 size I've bought all my other Frye boots, which normally fit perfectly. These were a bit snug at first. I thought they would break in like my others over time, but they never did. They hurt my feet even after wearing them a bit and so I cannot wear them at all any more even they are nearly like new.

As a longtime Frye boot owner, I was very excited about my new boots, but I was terribly disappointed: they are cut so small that I couldn't even get the boot past my arch/instep, let alone onto my foot! When I called to express my dismay, I was told that Frye's new "modern" fit was mich narrower- too bad, because I would have loved to wear Frye boots again! Oh well...
