Customer Reviews French Sole Sloop

I have various shoes in size 9, most in 9.5, and some in size 10. I tried the 9.5 sloop flat first and could not believe they would stretch out to be comfortable, they were so painfully tight. I do understand the concept described by other reviewers and wanted to be careful not to buy shoes that would stretch out too much. I wound up ordering a size 10 to compare- I am grateful for Zappos shipping & returns! The 10 is only slightly tight and I think will stretch to comfy perfection. I will update the review as they break in, but for now I am liking my French Sole Sloop flat in the black Nappa leather. I was looking for a well-made, leather minimalist shoe for work and it was surprisingly difficult to find! I do wish they didn't come quite so far up on the foot, but overall I am happy with these.

Great look. Disappointed they ran small.

I love minimalist shoes and I wanted something a bit fancy. This is it! I adore the utter flatness of the sole and the wrinkly look of the leather allows for much greater flexibility than other patent leather shoes. I also have the grey foil, which covers the toes better than the patent leather.

These are truly comfortable with no break in time.I own many pairs of these and other brands.After 1 season the soles wear very fast.The leather stretches alot to form to your foot.But after 1 season of wear .alternating with many shoes and the sole wearing out on these this quick.Im learing of buying more than the many prs i already have.If you need these to be your everyday flats.The wear isnt lasting.I dont drag my feet when i walk.and weight 136.

I really like the look of these flats as they cover more of toe area than others. Unfortunately, they aren't very comfortable even after wearing almost a dozen times. They are well made and have held up nicely however - just not for me and I won't reorder when they wear out.

I usually love this shoe but when I purchased a new pair (in the size I usually get), the shoes felt too small. I know my foot didn’t grow so something in the cut of this shoe changed. Trying to size up a half-size to see if that helps. (I usually take a 6 in shoes and I ordered a 7 in these-like always, but it’s still too small ). Hoping the 7.5 fits!

This is a beautiful shoe but the reviews I read before purchasing it were all over the map so I went with the size I normally wear. Way too small!! Darn.

Beautiful shoes that I wanted so much. I tried both my usual size and a half size bigger. Both were too narrow. Other reviewers said that the leather of these shoes stretches and conforms to the shape of your foot, but there's no use in my waiting for that, when the bones of my foot are wider than the sole.

This is a beautiful shoe--lovely color (sand) and soft leather. It is, however, too short. I wear either a 5 1/2 or 6, but this size 6 feels like a size 5. I returned the shoe and may order a larger size.

These shoes are excruciatingly small. I normally wear a 10 and ordered an 11 because of all the reviews all over the internet. The 11s are also too small with no hope of having them stretch out. I felt like one of Cinderella's wicked step sisters. The quality is beautiful, so if you can find the right size I would still recommend.

Beautiful shoes, but too small. Other reviews said to buy your normal size and they would stretch after a few days... this did not work for me, and now I am stuck with shoes that are too small and can't be returned because I wore them.

This shoe was exactly what I was looking for. The only downside is that it doesn't have much in the way of arch support or cushion, so as-is they bother me if I'm on my feet a lot in them. I need to look into inserts for them as those could turn the feel of this shoe from a 4 to a 5.

runs super small! Thought I knew this brand but I was wrong on my size.

No toe cleavage.great.i had to go up 1 full size but it feels like they will be a tad loose once they break in.hopefully not.where your toes bend when you walk does pinch.i tried 2 sizes to make sure n its still the same.the larger size hurt less.Im hopeful they will last at least a yr.bought brown n patent leather black to match with alot.Tried frye flats .beautiful shoe .but skinny style n toe cleavage.returned for these.

I read reviews for hours trying to decide which size to buy. I ended up trying my true size of 9 and they were painfully tight. I exchanged for a 91/2 but they were a bit loose and I was concerned that they would get floppy once they stretched. So I sent back the 9 1/2 and kept the 9 and I'm glad I did. They were pretty uncomfortable for the first several wears ( I wore them around the house with socks the first few times) but now they are stretched nicely and super comfy. My feet are a bit wide and I'm a true size 9 so hopefully this will help other folks with the fit. Well worth the money and the effort, great little flats!

These flats run waaaaay small. I usually wear a 9 or 9.5 in a ballet flat. The size 10 in this style is too tight on me! Thinking of ordering an 11, but may just try a different brand. The style is so cute with the squared opening, but they are just too small. :(

I like the look of these shoes overall; however, the sizing is pretty off - even across the same style. Different materials had totally different sizing. I initially ordered a size 9 in the nappa since my normal size is an 8.5 and they say to size up. Well, I couldn't even get my foot in flat. So, I ordered a 9.5 in the suede since the nappa in the 9.5 was sold out at the time. Those fit just fine, with a bit of room to spare. It is possible they'll be too large if they stretch to any real degree. So, I placed an order for the 9.5 in nappa when they were back in stock and still to small. Frustrating. It's a simple shoe, goes with a lot, but mercy, the sizing is a real pain in the rear. Here's wishing you better luck.

I wear an 8.5 and I ordered an 8.5 in the black nappa leather with the understanding (expectation) that they would stretch. I don't think I have a very high tolerance for tight shoes, but I looked at a lot of pictures online before purchasing, and I liked better the way the tighter fit looked. I have had these shoes for a few months yet and have been wearing them sporadically to stretch them out. The tightest part is definitely around the edge of the shoe, mainly across the big toe area. The process has been extreeeeeemely slow going and I'm not at a point where I could wear them for a full workday. I do believe we will get there eventually and I expect to love them once we do, but it was not my experience that the stretch-to-fit/mold-to-your-foot action took only a few hours or even days. That said, I would buy another pair, in the same size, should they offer a second color that I liked. They are very understated and don't make my feet look wide like some ballet flats do, plus there is no toe cleavage. Good shoe, just know what you may be getting into.

I bet this shoe would be comfortable if it fit. I normally wear a 7.5 and ordered an 8 based on other reviews. The fit was good except it was too tight across the top of my foot. The top of the shoes comes up higher on the foot so there is no "toe cleavage" - you can decide if that is a good or bad thing. The leather is very soft.

Well, I trusted you reviewer ladies and am glad I did. These shoes felt way too short and tight, but I listened to your recommendations and wore them aruond the house for a few hours (with peds on), and sure enough they stretched. They are comfortable, but not supportive. The silver ones are gorgeous. The sole is wide enough so that I don't roll over and wear out the leather on the sides.

These are cute and very nice quality. However, they run small. I normally wear a 7.5, and even the 8 was too small for me. Maybe they would stretch after time, but I sent them back.

SO small! Zappos was out of my half size up so I thought I'd be fine ordering true to size, despite the reviews. Wrong! I couldn't even get my whole foot in the shoe. The leather finish was as pictured, and the leather was thick and smooth, and the folded edge felt great against my foot. They're a great looking shoe. Too bad other sizes were sold out.

Run small but very cute.
