Heavier (much) than they were before. Warning.
I have had 4-5 pairs of rod lavers. I bought 2 new pairs of rod laver "originals" from adidas directly, and was so dissappointed. The material is not at all like it used to be, much worse quality. The soles are super-heavy. I actually weighed and compared, but I cant find the photo right now, but it is ridiculous.
The new ones feel really cheap and heavy, and it totally destroys the rod laver feeling.
I hope they stop making them that way and go back to making them with quality like before.

Zappos is truly amazing, let's get that out of the way. Every company in America should be trying to follow the lead set by Zappos in terms of customer support and customer care. Ugh...the shoes, so disappointed. I had owned the Rod Lavers a few years ago and wanted another pair for summer. Boy, has this shoe changed.. These things weigh a ton and the quality is really poor. Fit is fine but trust me, you will be amazed by how heavy these puppies are. They will be sent back and I will look for something else.

I have worn Rod Lavers since the late '90s - they fit my foot perfectly and became my shoe of choice. But I knew that the most recent pair of Lavers I bought in the fall of '14 were different the moment I put them on. The design has changed - they have gotten wider and the arch support has greatly diminished. It blows my mind that Adidas would so drastically alter the design of the shoe without giving any kind of notice or explanation. I even contacted their customer service only to find they had no idea. I would have likely continued buying these shoes for many more years, but now I am off to find a new shoe.

Unfortunately, the changes Adidas has made to this shoe make it very uncomfortable. The sole is now very unyielding and heavy and after a short wear, I feel like I have two paddles tied to my feet.

I tried these on and immediately hated them. Way too narrow, and felt like I was standing on a jagged rock. Who would ever wear these?

The re-issue by Adidas is terrible. These used to be the ultimate summer sneaker. I weighed them when I bought them against my 3 other pairs purchased year ago. They are 4lbs heavier. Horrible job by Adidas, destroyed a classic.

I love these shoes but after they got wet they started to smell like cat piss. I mean they stink and are now unbearable. Great shoes if you don't get them wet.

My feet always hurt after walking around in these for longer than five minutes. They look nice but they are uncomfortable. And the laces always come undone.

These shoes look great and feel great. The only problem is that after less than two months of wear both of the soles split in half. This has been a problem so far with only the black versions and not the grey ones.

The pair I bought were defective. The sole of the shoe split near the ball of the foot after one month of wear. The quality of the Black and White model seems to be not as good as the White and Blue model.
Do not buy the Black and White Rod Lavers!

This shoe seemed to be poorly constructed. The arch felt like there was a hard piece of plastic poking up in the wrong spot (only on the right shoe) and the styling in the front gave me blisters. I thought they would "wear in." I was wrong.

This review has nothing to do with Zappos. My Zappos experience is fine. I purchased two pairs of Adidas. Both are very uncomfortable. I will never purchase Adidas again. One pair rubs the left side of the left foot because of poor construction. The other pair has a lump by the arch of the left foot due to poor construction.
I'd also recommend:
Anything other brand.

Most uncomfortable shoe ever -
This is the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever worn, which was very disappointing considering I absolutely love the cool, vintage look. I spent three weeks trying to break them in with no luck. The sole was especially hard. Zappos was out of the blue trim version so I got them through the Adidas website which luckily had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Adidas needs to improve the quality of their Originals line!

Why bother?
I agree with the earlier reviewer who said that these are a 'fashion' sneaker only. Since when did it become okay to just start making shoes cheaper and cheaper? These are garbage.
The soles are now a hard, slick compound that leaves marks, even on themselves! (Lavers never did this before).
The construction is just plain cheap. If you compare these latest ones with some made even 5 years or so ago, you'll notice the difference. They even look cheap.
I never bother to review anything, but hear this; don't waste your time if you are looking for the 'classic', this ain’t it...
