My father had worn these shoes for 5 years and swore by them. Therefore, when it was time to replace my Timberland deck shoes, I decided to invest in these. I found them on sale at Nordstrum for a great price. The first few weeks were difficult. The leather is tough and I had the same ankle problem many other people had complained about. Specifically, the shoes rubs/cuts up the skin below the ankle. I went to the local Mephisto dealer and was sold Mephisto risers which help raise the ankle. I would say that the risers addressed the problem by 50%. I had heard that after a few weeks of regular wear, the problem goes away. Therefore, I put a bandaid on the irritated area and continued to wear them. About a month later, the leather softened up and the ankle problem vanished entirely. The shoes meld to the contours of your feet. The leather gets extremely soft and the shoes are beyond comfortable. I have worn these for 3 months now. By this point, my Timberlands would have approached the 1/2 way point and would generally look scuffed up. The Mephistos look slightly worn but a quick buff would make them look like they are right out of the box. The premium you pay for these shoes is entirely worth it and I highly recommend them.

Great shoe! I was looking for a pair of boat shoes for the fall fishing season when I stumbled upon these. A local retailer (Saxons Shoes) had them at a huge discount. Mephisto quality at a Sperry price!

I’ve owned these shoes for 2 years now, I’m an avid deck shoe wearer and have been wearing deck shoes for many years from Sperry, Rockport, Clarks, many different shoemakers. I’ve always been told Mephistos were the best so I pulled the trigger. At first I was a little underwhelmed. The edge of the shoe touched my ankle bone in such a way that was irritating (gotta let them break in, that goes away), and all around while they were comfortable, they weren’t so different from the shoes I’d had to make them worth the pricetag. The difference has come as I have owned them and worn them. They are now so unbelievably comfortable I hate to wear anything else, and while I would have had to replace a pair of any other deck shoes I’ve owned by now, these are just getting started. Truly a wonderful shoe. There are definitely better looking deck shoes out there (mine are the brick color, they’re okay looking, but now you have all these other colors). I’d buy them again... although I don’t have to because I have a feeling mine will last forever.
