I'm so disappointed in what's happened to Reef in the last two years. Trying to replace my Slaps that I bought two summers ago and neither the current Fanning nor the Slap is even close to the quality of my last purchase. Crappy foam soles, cheap material on the uppers. Why, Reef, why? I've been wearing Reefs for a dozen years and never even looked at other brands - now I have to.

The strap on this year's Fanning sandals is super wide. They fit so loose there is no way they will stay on my feet. I wear an 8 medium width, very average. They use to fit nice and snug making it a fabulous sandal with incredible support. Why change it when it was so great for so many years?? Definitely returning them.

UPDATE: My old pair of Fanning had served me very well for years, but the bottoms were finally worn out. So, I went to a local store to try on a new pair. Unfortunately, the straps on the new ones are too tight for me to even fit my feet in. I thought maybe it was only that one pair, but it was not. There were 3 pairs of size 9 at the store, but I couldn't fit into any of them. I went to another store, but I still couldn't fit into any of the 4 pairs available. I was recommended to try a pair of size 10. I was able to fit my feet in, but they were still very tight. Eventually tried a pair of size 11. They felt better, but they were just too long in length. So I gave up in despair, and got myself a pair made by another manufacturer.

I finally put my old pair of Reef's (machado Low's) out to rest after about 7 or 8 years. I wore them non-stop and unless you really looked close at them, you couldn't tell. Beaches, wild parties, days walking around NYC, and even a handful of mild hikes and they help up great. I purchased the Fannings because I figured I would get similar if not better durability from Reef this many years later. After wearing them ONCE for about 8 hours at a barbeque over the weekend, I noticed that the colored Reef logo under my heel had almost completely worn off. This is very disappointing to me - I know this is mostly cosmetic, but when you pay a premium price for something, you expect premium quality. To me, this seems like an early indication that I will be replacing this much sooner than the 7 or 8 years I had my previous Reefs for. Especially given the fact that this is such a popular model and I was merely sitting/walking around a dry backyard, I feel like this should have been addressed as I cannot imagine I am the only one that has experienced it. Overall, it was just a big disappointment when I had expected the same quality I had experienced with my first pair of Reefs - to the point of not even looking at any other brands when it was time for a replacement. It seems that over the past years, Reef may have began to cut corners to increase their profit while still maintaining their premium price.

I use these to do pretty much anything besides running or excising. I've purchased over a dozen pairs of women's fanning from different years and while I found last years models to be true to size and just the right amount of support and the correct wideness. The biggest problem with this years sandals was that they are 1/4" wider in the strap than last years to the point that they don't hold my feet but they are flopping around everywhere, and that's after a year of wearing last years pair and add to that that last years pairs straps have stretched quite a bit since I bought them. I feel so disappointed since these have been my go-to "shoes" for the last 4 years, but there is no way I can use the pair from this year, so I sent it back. I sure wish you could return to the same size/width as previous years. In the past, I have always recommended this style to my friends, this year I will do the opposite, unless someone has a very wide foot.

There wasn't enough arch support. The bottoms of the flip flop was very hard and hurt me feet. Wasn't impressed for the amount of money they were.

I am the owner of a dozen or so fanning a. I bought my girl her first pair and she loves them. So I ordered a second pair for her same size 9 women's fanning but they are way bigger. She has wore other for a considerable amount of time and they are way smaller then the new one. I am and will continue to be a reef fan. But not happy with her last pair

I had a Fanning sandal that finally wore out. I was looking forward to receiving my new sandals which turned out to be defective or manufactured differently from 3-4 years ago. I am a perfect size 8 & these were falling off me & were uncomfortable.

I've owned around 5 pairs of the Reef Fanning flip flop. This is the first time I've had a complaint. The strap across the top of the foot leaves a black mark on the top each foot. It's very hard to scrub off and your foot looks dirty until you do. Hoping this problem is addressed as I have always loved the previous Reefs.

I've worn the shoes for 1 1/2 weeks. The thong rubs at my big toe and it physically hurts. I love Reef sandals, never thought I'd have this issue. I thought it'll take time to break in, but they aren't! I thought they would be more spongy, but it's a very hard sole.

These shoes would probably have been great, but they are sized for men WITHOUT being labeled "Mens Shoes" so I will be sending these shoes back. They need to do a better job of labeling products.

The arch support is very pronounced and very hard. Also felt like it was in slightly the wrong place, so all in all they were incredibly uncomfortable. Going back...

These were very comfortable and great for walking around all day, but after only three days of wear, the white side striping is cracked and flaking off. Not worth the money.

I own three older pairs of Reef Slap W's, all size six. Thought I'd try the Fannings. They felt pretty small when I put them on. In fact, really small and when I took out a tape measure, they were a full inch shorter than any of my old ones, and considerably narrower. They're also slightly narrower. I don't know what's going on with Reef, but this was really really disappointing, since they're my favorite summer shoes!
