Solves Your Foot Pain - I have very high arches...the end result is that my body weight comes down on three points...The Mephisto Match helps me solve that problem beautifully...I still wear inserts in my shoes, but with Match, the build up of sole callouses and cramping is gone! I own two pair and plan to keep them as a staple for the rest of my life. They wear extremely well and are easy to keep looking nice.

MEPHISTO MATCH REVIEW - I already own a pair of the same shoe, so I knew what to expect when I ordered the new pair.

These shoes are easily the most comfortable I have ever worn when fresh out of the box. They are soft and conforming to my wide feet and high arches. I am amazed that both these and Eccos which are medium widths will fit me so well. The high cost is offset by the quality and fit for me.

My feet are tough to find a shoe that is comfortable. The Mephisto's Match are just great. I can wear them all day long without my feet hurting. At first, I thought the price was a little steep but the comfort level was worth every penny.

The basic walking shoe - This is my third pair of Mehpisto Match shoes. I have sensitive feet and I love to walk--these shoes are the most comfortable walking shoe made. I have walked all day in these shoes over city pavement and my feet are so thankful for the great structure of the mid and inner sole of this Mephisto shoe. They look great as an alternative to more athletic styled shoes. They only other walker that comes close to this in comfort is the Brooks Addiction, but these have more refined look.

The best walking shoe in the world! If you are a woman...with wide feet, try the men's sizes. I've been wearing Mephistos for the past 5 years. It started when I began walking and my feet were killing me; I have the flatest feet in the world. These shoes were heaven; I used the women's version for years (Mephisto Rush). As I put my feet through more strenous challenges, foot problem arose and I needed a wider shoe. I tried New Balance, Rockport and others, but nothing supports like the Mephisto. I bought the equivalent men's size and I'm in heaven again. I use them for my strength training workouts where I use very heavy weights, and the feet need room to move, but still need support. Other shoes just breakdown and soon are useless. These keep on supporting. The only downside of this shoe depends on the color you buy. When the insole is green, it rubs off on your socks. The white insoles don't do that(white shoes have white insoles). I highly recommend trying the shoes on for the right size in a store, then order them from Zappos for hassle free shopping. These shoes can be resoled for a nominal charge; I've done it with the suede finishes and they come back like new. No one paid me to say this; it's just my opinion! If you can afford them, you owe it to feet to have them :)

I now have three pairs of Mephistos. They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I walk at least two miles a day, on purpose.

I've had several styles of Mephisto shoes and my most recent purchase is a pair of Match shoes from Portugal. I decided to give them a chance, and I have not been disappointed! They do seem somewhat heavier than I remember, but the fit and craftsmanship are unequalled--even when compared to the shoes made in France. They fit perfectly with my orthotic and seem more comfortable for my feet than the shoes from France. I was going to go for another series of cortisone shots for my troublesome left foot, but these shoes have made my trip to the doctor unnecessary.

Have been wearing Mephisto shoes for ten years and find them to be the best for me in comfort,looks and durability. Have also sent two pairs back for new soles and have been very pleased.

Great shoes - Perfect fit and wonderful comfort.

I recently purchased a pair of Mephistos (although it took some soul searching to spend that much on shoes). To my delight, the transaction, shoes, and almost real-time delivery by Zappos were much more than expected. The fit was as if I had them customized, the quality unsurpassed; I am more than pleased. I would and will purchase this brand in the future from this site. While the cost may seem high, the quality and wearability more than offset the price (just ask my feet!). Thank you Zappos... we'll meet again.

Made in France is best - I recently purchased a pair that was made in Portugal. Not the same quality and feel as the ones made in France. Did Mephisto close the French factory? When walking on hardwood, there is a horrible squeak in the right shoe. I returned them for repair.

Great Shoe - I have had this shoe for about 7 years and it still is holding up like new. It is the most comfortable shoe I have.

Excellent - Just right for walking.

My sixth Mephisto - Just bought my sixth Mephisto (in 10 years), this time in Paris. Not sure if it is made in France, no small label inside the shoe to indicate this. But the ones made in France are much better than those made in Portugal. My favourites are still the Match for casual/walking and the Marlon for dress shoes, especially for flat-feet people like me. There are no retailers near where I live, so have to get mine from the States.

France vs Portugal - I read the previous review and he is absolutely right; the shoes made in Portugal do not feel the same and if examined carefully, are not as well made, the dealers will swear to the contrary! However, I own 7 year old French shoes that look like new and have gone through a pair of Portugal shoes in 3 months (so did my wife on the same trip). You can still get some models made in France so look inside the shoe for that small round label. I have worn Mephistos for 20 years and have boots and shoes (about 12 pairs), so does my wife. Please do pay attention to where they are made.

Fantabulous - This is the best, most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I even got it in my size 14 n!

Best casual shoe in the world - Expensive, of course, but worth every dime. I think of the Mephisto Match as the equivalent of a BMW or current-day Audi; luxurious, performance-oriented, a statement of who you are, fun to use. The label on the shoe is meaningful only to the connoisseur of footwear. And it feels REALLY good on your feet! Just bought my third pair after wearing out my other two over the last 10 years. Oh, yeah, did I mention that they're durable?

Made in France - I have had these shoes for 6 years and they are starting to show some wear. They are most comfortable but the newer versions are made in Portugal! I have tried them at the store but they have a different fit and feel. I wish the manufacturers would have preserved the integrity of the Mephisto line by keeping the manufacture at home in France. My wife and I have 10-12 pairs from France and they are the best shoes we have ever owned. They last and last. I'm not sure about the ones from Portugal. Someday I might need to buy them, but they are different.

Comfort&Durability I am 69 years old and overweight. This shoe is the most comfortable shoe that I have ever worn. The shoe continued to wear even though it was past the time I usually replace a shoe.

I bought my first pair of mephisto shoes in early December. By the end of the month I bought my second pair. Simply a great shoe. The only shortcoming is the heel feels a bit wide.

On my second pair because the first had stitching on the inside sole that failed. I work in a hospital and wore the shoes for 6 months of about 40,000 steps a week. My biggest complaint about these shoes is that the leather loosens up and doesn't allow one to tighten the shoes enough, especially if you wear compression socks which are thin like dress socks. When I noticed the failed stitching I contacted Mephisto, sent the shoes back and got a new pair 5 days later. I commend the customer service on their end, but expectations of durability are quite high when paying $400 for a pair of shoes. I ended up buying another pair of Mehpisto "Harrison" shoes and I'm just a huge fan of the way they make a shoe. I can no longer buy those squishy foam cheap shoes anymore that are just designed to fail prematurely.

I own five pairs of these. They are wonderful functional shoes, albeit pretty unsightly. They are so functionally perfect that I am willing to put up with how they look (my family hates when I wear them!). Despite the other reviews, these are the least durable shoes that I own. That is why I have five pairs. The soles wear out in about three months before I need a resole - and that is with routinely switching pairs. The Mephisto representative at one of their stores finally agreed (after getting over his brand loyalty) - the entire sole, while thick, has a very thin layer of base rubber. Once the tread on this base is quickly gone, if used more, the shoe will be useless if you got through the first layer before resoling them. Thankfully, for a resoling fee I routinely have new shoes. They are entirely comfortable but hideously ugly!
