I bought these for their wet/dry Stealth Rubber grip on canoe trips. They're pretty stiff - more boot than shoe - and I started sockless so be warned. Either break 'em in first, wear mid-thickness socks or suffer the hotspot consequences. You don't need to open the front strap to get in and out. I thought, as an amphibious shoe, they'd have more drainage channels but this didn't seem to cause performance problems over a short trip. They should improve with use.

Buckle System -
They have improved the support and draining system, but the buckle belt still needs improvement. Why? Rope gets tangle with the belt. About the rest, now is a better shoe not only for walking but also for climbing and down climbing in the wet rocks.

Thought they could have done a lot better. I wear size 10 in everything. I got 10-1\/2 beacuase that was all they had. My toes hit the end and they were very wide. There is also a rivet that hits on the inside of the foot. Generally I like every shoe I get so I am very unpicky. These shoes were just not that great. Next canyon I will just go back to tennis shoes. \r\n\r\nThe good thing about them is they seem to be durable.

I just returned from a 45 mile hike down Buckskin Gulch into Paria Canyon, ending on the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry. This involved sandy approaches and exits, beautiful slots, and frequent river wading. I was very pleased with the Canyoneer 2 boots, which I used with my usual orthotics. I trialed the boots 1/2 size larger and 1 size larger than my usual shoes (thanks to Zappos for trading them with no shipping costs and fast delivery) and ended up with the boots 1 size up from normal. This accommodated a 2mm neoprene sock and thin sock liner. I had no blisters, and no issues with sand against my skin. The Paria River water was warm; a colder river would require a wool sock between the neoprene and the liner, and this also worked well in trial hikes with the boot one full size up. I would highly recommend the shoes and Zappos' service.

Very disappointing. This shoe lacks ankle support. The straps are so long that it is impossible to tighten them enough to snug up the ankle area. Also, after after a few months all of the straps began to crack and the stitching began to pull loose. maybe this was a bad pair, but I will not try them again.

Finally I decided to buy REAL canyoneering shoes! They looks awkward but so far best shoes I used in canyons. I feel very safe wit them. For approaching (more than 1 mile) the slot I rather use regular hiking boots since the 5.10 are more for technical use. Don't buy too big since they already are. Look at the 5.10 web site for sizing chart (very helpful).

I have owned an original pair of these for several years and many canyons. The one complaint I have about mine has been fixed in the new version. The stitching at the toe box on the sides is exactly where canyons wear out shoes. I have solved the problem with climbing seam grip glue. I have to reapply every 10 canyons but it's easy. The honeycomb insole is great for keeping the sand contained, they shed water very nicely and dry out faster than other shoes. The sole grip is amazing and the comfort just fine. I wear and 8 but bought a 9 so my neo socks would fit. When not wearing the neo socks I add a second insole to take up space. Work just fine and not blisters with these shoes.

I was worried about blisters in these new shoes because I'd never had shoeslike this. I wore them for ten miles the first time with no issues. I got stuck in quicksand and they worked just fine when tennis shoes would have come off.

Best river shoes ever. I use them for taking my huskies dog scootering nearly every day. We may do 6-7 river crossings per trip, and the grip is great, and no gravel or sand ever gets in the shoes. They really grip the scooter platform as well. Fine for driving to the trail head as well. Pricey and hard to get, but well worth it.

Did the narrows last week and these shoes were spot on. This is my 2nd time doing the narrows - first time was in a pair of Keen sandals and my feet hurt for 3 days. With the 5.11s my feet felt great very little slippage if any and they drain very well. I ordered an 11. I wear a 10.5 with a 3mm neoprene sock and a sock inside of the neoprene. The fit was perfect.

I used this to hike the Narrows at Zion, the Escalante and some other rivers/canyons in southern Utah. Also used for dry hiking when my regular boot's lace broke. I have a very wide fore-foot but narrow ankles and usually wear 9.5/10.0. I ended up getting a 11.0 (11.5 too long, 10.5 too tight in the toe box) so I could wear a pair of 2mm Neosport neoprenes (XXL), Darn Tough quarter height wool socks (L), and a liner. For the dry approach, I'd swap in a 2nd pair of the wool socks (XL) for the neo sock. These combinations all worked great for me! I had a little heel lift on my left foot but that eventually went away. Super traction in wet/mossy conditions, decent ankle support.

Excellent canyoneering shoe. Grip in wet and dry environments is awesome. Good ankle and arch support. Because the shoe is high volume inside you will need a very thick sock or a wetsuit bootie.

The ankle strap is misplaced too far back causing the rear edge of the strap to dig into your inner ankle bone. After 3 days of use there is a big groove in the padding right over the ankle bone. Poor design.
