Alright, I had the version prior to this. Nonetheless, I'm just now buying another pair after 3 years of intense wear. I'm an avid freerunner and cave spelunker so these things see everything under the sun. I did a 5K mud run in them after 3 years on top of everything else... and they survived! They are literally starting to fall apart so it's time for a new pair. An expensive shoe that last for over 3 years... you make the call.

Sturdy shoe. Awesome heel cup, possibly the best on the market. Stiff sole for a lightweight type shoe. Marking sole, heads up! Runs close to a full size smaller than marked for sure and they run wide.

I loved the 5.10 camp fours, and these shoes retain the same grippy outsoles. They are cooler, and the mesh tops are a great improvement for warm weather -- but the thin thread in the "details" is quickly cut by abrasion. Good support, and the extra lacing studs help if you have low-volume feet.

I purchased the 5.10 Savants for a very specific application: Canyoneering. Descending into near sub-terrain sandstone canyons of southern Utah requires a boot that is able to handle the unique challenges associated with the sport of canyoneering. The boot must be rugged and able to standup under the harsh conditions encountered while navigating the canyons. That includes descending narrow passages where maintaining adhesion to the sandy and often wet surfaces is extremely critical. Failure to do so guarantees serious injury... or worse. The boot must also be able to hold up and provide firm traction while spending much time in the water and mud frequently found in the canyons. Bottom line... the Savant was more than up to the challenge! It met and actually exceeded my expectations. These will be my go-to footwear for future excursions. The only minor complaint was that the laces were a tad too short, making tying a double knot kind of difficult.

This shoe performed exactly as expected. Good fit, no rub spots. Worn on short hikes (less than 1 hour) and one canyon five-hour hike on soft sand and stone. I like the rugged appearance too.

I\'ve had my 5.10 Savants for a few weeks and I really like them. I got them for parkour and they work really well. They\'re very comfortable and good for running in, and have great traction even with all the dust etc. picked up from walking around. They have great shock absorption and are a great fit for me. I like the way they look and am happy with my purchase.

This is the best light weight approach shoe I've ever worn. I love the fit which is a true size 11 in my case. and you can't beat the rummer on the soles. Five ten has done it again. The best in comfort and performance.

Five Ten - The Five Ten's Savant is an amazing shoe. I use them for free running. The grip is Incredible, making it an extremely easy to run up walls, and basically grip any surface you come across. Not only is the grip good but it also looks good, its light weight, and it feels great. This is by far the best pair of shoes I’ve ever owned.

Tapeats cave, deer creek slot, & scotties hollow - I recently completed a 9-day Grand Canyon hike, mostly off trail, doing the Indian hollow-kanab creek-fishtail-deer creek-lower tapeats-tapeats cave-thunder river-deer creek-cranberry canyon loop. This was the first trip for the Savant's on my brother-in-law's recommendation. I used them for the 'fun' days exploring the slot canyons of Scotties hollow, slide of susurus, deer creek slot, tapeats cave and thunder river. They performed superbly on all terrain and exposure conditions and especially gripped tenaciously in the wet, slick-walled rock of the slots. I even hiked several miles under full (~60 pound) pack with plenty of support. These are keepers and will hold a well-deserved place of honor next to my original 5-10's that have seen me through the jug, buckskin, and dozens of Lake Powell slot canyons over the years. DD

Excellent... but. If only it didn't leave black marks so easy in urban environments. But if you do any rural or suburban free running or just need a shoe that can climb a waterfall, run a trail, leap over a wall, stick to almost any surface and that will hold up, this is it. Very durable and dirt resistant exterior. Very comfortable and dry fast. C4 rubber on toe and instep make climbing short distances a breeze. Rock solid product.

I use these shoes for whitewater kayaking. I'm looking for a shoe low profile enough to be comfortable in the boat, but still good for hiking and with the stickiest rubber possible for portages through boulder gardens on wet rock where falling isn't an option. These shoes do a good job, but the rubber was not as sticky as I expected based on their reputation. The rubber feels great on dry surfaces, but on wet rock they feel slicker than previous shoes I've used with Teva spider rubber. Good feel for hiking and comfortable in the boat. I found the sizing runs slightly smaller than I'm used to. Overall a good pick, but not perfect.

I bought my Savants for whitewater kayaking. I find that they offer superior traction and support as compered to any of the thinner and lighter water shoes I've had in the past. The Savants are just running shoes that drain water. They don't even come close to fitting in my play boat, and they barely squeeze into my 8.1 Nomad. I normally wear size 8, I had to go up 1 full size to make room for dry suit booties. I can't remark on durability yet. For kayaking the 5.10 Water Tennie might be a little better being just slightly smaller so that they fit in the boat easier.

Great shoes for specific use. They stick to anything and drain water very well. Great for hiking in rocky areas where you will probably get wet, such as creeks, canyons etc. For any other use I would buy a different shoe. I bought these as a lighter and more comfy alternative to the Five Ten Canyoneers, which are the only shoe anyone should ever use in serious technical canyoneering. These are for those fun and not so hard canyons, and they fit the bill perfectly but they would not hold up to the abuse of a tight technical route.

Looks very cool but no cushioning - I really like how these shoes look and they have excellent traction. Their only flaw is they are very ridged, almost no cushion or support. So a pair of shoes that I was planning on having for the gym have become a pair of really cool street shoes.

Great looking shoe but disappointing in some ways. It feels much heavier than you would expect from a light hiking shoe. Also, after a month of general outdoor use (mostly hiking, no climbing) the front lip on one shoe is already starting to separate.

I bought these just before a 12-hour hike in Zion National Park. The shoes were awesome for gripping the rock. While others in my group were slipping on wet rock in their new Salomon shoes, I was not. The shoes were comfortable and dried fast, in fact, the next morning they were dry. The big problem was at the end of the hike the stitching came undone on the right shoe above the toes and is coming undone on the left shoe as well! Although I really like the shoes, I won't buy them again.

So, I tied my Savant shoes, loaded up my pack with 15 lbs, and headed out the door the day after receiving them. I decided that since these are a new style of shoe for me, I should keep this leg of my run short. I normally wear Asics GT-2110s for running. I took the Savants out for the first 30 minutes of my 1:30 run. I wear low profile socks, so I immediately noticed how the tongue, while padded, was stiff and pushed directly into the front of my ankle. The lack of cushioning on the bottom was not bothersome to me. When I started running my immediate thought was how they felt like the were sticking to the ground. I'm sure this is because of the unusual tread pattern. They are slightly heavier at 15.5 oz, compared to my normal shoes at 12.6 oz. I should add that 15 pounds on my back is a heaviest weight I've run with recently. In my attempt to test the traction of the shoe, I was lucky that it had rained overnight and it was about 40 Fahrenheit. I purposely tried to slide on the patches of tar they use to fill cracks in the blacktop. No chance. There wasn't even a hint of sliding. We'll chalk that up to the Stealth rubber sole. About 20 minutes in my left ankle was starting to be bothered by the constant rubbing from the tongue of the shoe, so I attempted to loosen the shoe to see if that helped. Not really. Hopefully, they will break in over time. However, the lack of cushioning on the bottom of my foot didn't make me feel like I couldn't keep running in it, which I will also chalk up to the Stealth rubber sole. I returned home to switch into my regular shoes. I immediately noticed how much more cushioned and lighter my Asics are. They almost felt mushy and I didn't realize that 3 oz would make that big of a difference in weight. I hit Adrenaline Sports & Fitness the next evening for a boot camp session to put my Five Ten Savant shoes through the paces. Quite frankly, I was amazed with the shoes. They felt much better on the artificial turf than my Asics. They also stuck like glue when I planted my feet! While we did only minimal running, I didn't notice the rubbing at all on my ankles. The shoes were comfortable throughout the workout. It's now been 5 weeks. While the shoes remain comfortable enough to run in with a weighted backpack (up to 35 lbs now) I'm afraid that I am quickly wearing through the tread, especially on the heels. I'm afraid these shoes won't last to the event for which I'm training. This shoe is marketed to be a multi-sport and urban free running shoe. I think that only applies if you plan on getting new shoes every month.

Awesome rubber, as always with 5.10 shoes. But I must say, the stitching and construction is obviously crudely done. Within a few times wearing them the stitching started coming apart on both shoes where the big toe is. Have to get a cobbler to mend it up. The insights are a bit better made. If you drag your heels, the rubber will be shot very soon.

5.10 Savant Review - These shoes are great! They are comfortable enough to wear all day, and decent looking. They worked great for hiking, the trails and rocks were a little wet, but I never lost my footing. Their grip on concrete was good too, great for free running.

Great shoe. Have worn them in a regular rotation with other shoes for the past couple years, never once regretted my purchase. Fantastic grip on rock, cement, most any surface I've encountered, really. Great for parkour, hiking, intense urban games like capture the flag, pretty much anything. It can handle some light/casual climbing. It's no rock climbing shoe, but it still does better than any other 'ordinary' shoe I've owned. Still get the best height on wall runs with these compared to my other shoes, despite the tread on the ball of my foot being worn flat from the hard use I put them through. Downsides are that this rubber is very squeaky on certain floors when wet, and the metal lacing things can sometimes press into your foot uncomfortably if you're sitting Indian style.

I almost sent these shoes back after wearing them around the house for a break in period. Glad I didn't. When we got in the river and wet they shined! Very comfortable, toe guard was a big plus, Stealth sole had a great grip for large rocky portages and sandy beaches, became my go to hiking shoe around Machu Picchu and walking around in town. Men's 8.5 was equal to the women's 10.

Used these shoes to hike Zion Narrows and kayak the Grand Canyon for 2 weeks. Great traction for portaging and wet hikes. More volume in a kayak than a wetsuit bootie but less than a regular athletic shoe. Water flushes out easily but these shoes take a long time to dry out completely which adds weight. Not too bad a problem with rocks and sand considering the conditions. I added my own insole for better support.

Forget what I said back in September 2011. The Savant is a total bust. This boot was supposed to be a companion to the 5.10 Canyoneer boot. That is definitely not the case! After only a half dozen Class III slot canyons, the stitching securing the rubber toe piece, on both boots, blew out. It didn't just give way...the stitching actually disappeared, leaving the toe piece unsecured on both sides of the boot. The Savant would probably make an okay trail boot, but it definitely does not belong in technical slot canyons.
