Good TR's - Shoe is the only one available that doesn't look like a 3-year old cat designed it. Sure its ugly, but not as ugly as the rest of the trail-running shoes out these days. These shoes are lightweight and fairly stiff in the sole. The weight helps out about 5 miles into a run when your feet used to feel heavy. The stiff sole is great for rocky terrain. I like the lacing system, as it is very easy to use. I am a little worried about what happens when they break, though. The arch in this shoe is also very comfortable, and may be a little too much for someone with flatter feet. The rubber outsole is one of the best I've tried, and I really like the little bumps - at least until they wear off. Veggies and pescis will be happy that this shoe is not made with any leather. I wish there were some more reflective material on this shoe, but they are trail-runners. Two thumbs up.

Best shoes I ever bought - Seriously, I beat the heck out of shoes, and these are the only ones I have EVER found that can take it. Plus you don't have to tie 'em.

Great general purpose shoes - This shoes is ultra comfortable. It is good for hot weather but may make your feet cold during winter.

Great Cross Trainer! This is my 4th pair of Salomon's since 2000 and the best so far. I wear them for cross training - weight lifting, cardio and trail running - and they are very durable and comfortable. I have a Flintstones-width foot, but the regular width is perfect due to the adjustable lace. There is no lace or heel slippage, which I experienced with my Tech Amphibians. The sole is fairly inflexible, but that is common with premium trail running shoes. You never worry about foot injuries when going off road.

Sore Foot - Salomon make a great shoe for my feet...the XA Pro 3D is one in a long line of off road running/approach shoes that I have purchased. They are yet to disappoint. Zappos IS the way to buy !!!Thanks

I'm wearing them now! Love these shoes... looks and all. Sometimes after a long day, I feel pressure where the shoe laces up.. but that has not kept me from wearing this shoe. love it!

I am concerned as with only about 50 miles on the shoe I am already seeing significant tread wear in the heel contact area. So sole durability looks like it might be an issue.

I just took these out for the first time on a 26 mile trail jaunt and am very happy with them. There are only two things that I would say need to be addressed in manufacturing: 1. The quicklace lock can start to slip a little, nothing earth shattering but I did have to stop a few times to re-tighten. 2. The tongue didn't slide down, but I can see where it could once the padding is broken in and not as fat because the laces are put on over the top of the strap on top of the tongue that you would normally run the laces under. Quite odd that the shoe would have the strap, but then choose to ignore it and run the laces over the top. Pros: Gave me great grip in some pretty gnarly mud on some uphill sections, kept my feet dry when I had to go through some puddles and across a small shallow stream, heel stayed pretty firm, I like the canted heel pull strap - not a big thing but a nice little touch. I didn't buy the wide, which I normally do, but these in a normal width weren't as restrictive as a competitor shoe that I own (but I'll definitely buy the wide when I wear these out, or Spring, whichever comes first). Got a compliment on them from a pretty lady - so that's a bonus!

For this shoe, go 1/2 size larger than your foot size. If your a 10 1/2 USA, go 11. Normally Salomon runs small and at 10 1/2 would normally go 11 1/2, this is the Mesh shoes. The Vortex GTX and CS WP shoes, go 11 1/2!! Sizing is everything for this shoe, and once done, will be fantastic. These Salomons LAST!!
I'd also recommend:
Merrel, Brooks, Rockport, Hitec and some Timberland.

Prior to this order, I already am a very happy owner/user of XA Pro 3Ds (2 regular and a GTX). This appears to be a new iteration with some minor differences, mainly cosmetic and shoe tread, but the same comfortable design I have grown used to. I did end up exchanging them for the following reasons: 1. The sizing on this new version felt half a size smaller (shorter and narrower). 2. The chive/black/beluga color I received did not match the picture shown. The picture showed a lighter hue of green similar to the 'iguana' color of previous versions. The actual chive/black/beluga color is a darker 'moss' which I did not much care for. With XA Pro 3Ds being 30% off in some some colors, I ended up exchanging them for a CS WP version in Castor Gray, half a size larger than my usual Salomon shoe size, also at the same sale % off. I must say that Zappos , as they always have been, was great in helping me with my issue and received my replacement 1 day. Can't say enough great things about this company.

I am on my second pair, these are good shoes. They provide good traction, ventilation and comfort. The lacing system is very easy to use and convenient. The only negative is the lugs on the sole wear down in about a year of constant wear.

I didn't see this comment anywhere so I'm not sure if I'm the only one who feels this way. But, I've been buying these since 2005 and they recently changed the tongue where the Speed-lace lock goes and made it ridiculously fat. I don't know about anyone else, but I find this wicked annoying. Any chance you're going back to the thin and tight neoprene tongue pouch? (Pictured below)

I own and have owned several pair. Comfort is great, good arch support and roomy toebox. The uppers are durable and well made. The sole provides good traction and wears evenly (understanding a lot of that is based on an individuals mechanics) I would 5-star if I didn't currently have four pairs of perfectly good shoes, two having worn soles. The sole wears a bit too quickly.
