Bought the Recon and the Borealis to compare. Liked both as they're very similar, but the Recon is supposed to be bigger and better for outdoor use. I didn't find this to be the case, but its a personal preference. Both fit the same amount of things (pair of sneakers, gym clothes, a few notebooks, and a rain jacket) but the Borealis seemed to hold the weight differently. The Recon was more top heavy and looked "fuller". The main deciding factor was the water bottle pockets. They both fit large bottles but when wearing the backpack I could not get the bottle in or out of the pocket of the Recon but could with the Borealis.

i bought the backpack from TNF in al kout mall in Kuwait were I live .. it was 145 usd !!! I had to get it because I was travelling the next day and I really like it .. yeah and there was no warranty

This is the third version of the Northface Recon that I've had over the years and I love it's durability, functionality and overall design. There are great stash pockets for office supplies, Nalgene bottle and my laptop. Alternately I've used it many times as an airline carry on and as a quick overnight bag. I only bought the most recent version as my last was increasingly showing signs of wear in the mesh outside pocket and the plastic buckles were breaking after years of constant use and heavy loads. I really like some of the changes in this most recent version of the Recon. There is a padded sunglasses pocket at the top of the pack, a separate laptop sleeve and a smaller more easily accessible pen and accessories area.

Great backpack. Very comfortable and loading it doesn't change the overall appearance as my backpack from other sellers previously had. Very nice design but seems small. Nice computer pocket. Nice deep pockets for water bottles on the sides. My Yeti fits perfectly.

Purchased this Backpack after reading through the features, and enjoying the design. Received the back pack and no fleece lining. Called TNF and they stated it was a webisite error. I will be trying this back pack out to see if I like or dislike the laptop compartment (No sleeve insert to secure the laptop from moving around)

Bought this for my daughter in high school for a book bag. Love the color white gray and teal. A lot of pockets to keep organized. Didn't give 5 stars because the bag seems heavy without anything in it yet.

i would give this 4.5 stars just for the reason that the second pocket is a little to small. When I try to put my binder into the bag it gets caught in the middle of the bag and then I need to force it in. But other than that this backpack is very nice.

The back board is really stiff and not quite enough room. overall a good backpack for a college student.

Big enough that it fits all your school needs without being too bulky! Awesome padding on straps and back so even if you're carrying your entire life in that thing it doesn't feel like it.

I was looking for a new backpack for school and at first I was really concerned it would be too small because of the amount of textbooks I have to carry around with me. This backpack fits all of it!

The water bottle pockets weared out quickly but otherwise great product.

When our backpack arrived the Cheap bag it was in was literally ripped to pieces and the whole backpack exposed to elements left on our porch. I have photos. It was ridiculous and we checked the back pack and it seemed OK so we kept it. When you spend over $100.00 on a nice back pack you would think the company would take more initiative to package such a product in a safe and nice manner to protect it. The photos would shock you. How the back pack didn't get ruined is amazing. Hopefully this means it will be durable . Besides that we are pleased with what arrived. Thank goodness it wasn't damaged . My daughter starts school on Monday so we hope it will work great for her through the year.

I purchased this backpack for my son who is in high school. It is a unique design and very attractive. The backpack is made to last and is lightweight and comfortable.

My daughter picked this backpack based on appearance but I bought it because of North Face reputation for quality. It is roomy and she is very happy with it.

I ordered this book bag in the dark gray and dark turquoise as it is pictured. After i received the book bag, i noticed the colors weren't as dark as they were in the picture and ended up being entirely different. Customer service said it's a pre manufactured image so make sure to contact them for specifics on the bags. Love the bag, just expected the colors in the picture. That's the reason why i ordered it.

This product is not too heavy, big nor small. The inside pockets fit very well and helps with being organized.

I purchased this bag to be used as a toddler diaper bag. It is a cute bag with a very comfortable carry, but is too small due to the picket designs to be used as anticipated.

This bookbag is definitely a down size from my previous bookbag (high sierra) however I don't mind it being slightly smaller because it prevents me from carrying all of my college books around. The back support is amazing, but I don't find all the straps attractive (specifically the one that goes across the chest).

I like this bag because it did was supposed to: protect my computer and carry my textbooks without putting extra strain on my back. And it delivered. However, there wasn't much space for a pencil pouch or an extra sweatshirt.

I love my new backpack for college. I really like that is has a safe place for my computer and room for my big binder! glad I chose this bag!!

I use this product for my schooling every day and I am in awe of the amazing variety of pockets and space that is provided by this back pack. All of the compartments keep me organized and ready to find whatever I need so I don't have to search when I need to find something quickly. I wish the main pocket was a little bigger but this is the perfect and stylish fit for my busy school lifestyle.

I purchased this bag after years of refusing to use a backpack style bag for work. Thinking it wouldn't be professional enough, I lugged around a tote/messenger style bag and finally decided it's just too awkward and hard on my shoulders for the amount of items I need to carry around with me. I spent an embarrassing amount of time researching my options and settled on the Recon in the copper melange color, which keeps it feminine and pretty while still being functional. I used this bag on a recent vacation and it was great. The support kept the weight off my back and the shoulder straps are narrow and padded enough to keep from rubbing on my neck or digging into my shoulders. The laptop compartment is entirely separate and large (as opposed to a sleeve inside the main compartment) and has great padding. The bottom of the compartment stops just slightly higher than the bottom of the backpack to protect from drops. I also love the fleece lined phone/sunglass compartment, and my favorite is the open pocket on the front which is very convenient for items you want to easily access. It was great for park maps and other travel guides on my recent vacation. The back panel is very stiff and inflexible, like there is a piece of plastic or cardboard, which I suppose is what helps protect against back strain. I wish it was removable for casual use, but it's not a big deal. I have only one real complaint about this bag. The body of the accessories pocket protrudes into the main compartment and its depth is only halfway down the length of the bag. So the space in the top half of the main compartment has to be shared with whatever you have in the accessories pocket. It gets in the way and is super annoying. I didn't realize this until I actually used the bag, but the durability and other features make up for it and I'm still happy with it, but that's why I gave it four stars. Overall it's a great, durable bag with many positive features.
