Bought this backpack for my sister, who commutes daily 1 hr to her office. She loved that she could walk around with it and have all her stuff, there was a safety whistle, and the real color was to die for!
My only complaint was the back was very stiff, but I'm sure that's part of the design for comfort.

I use it on a daily basis for school and for personal use. It is very durable and can hold many things, however I think I would like it more if there were more easy-to-reach pockets.

I purchased this backpack to replace my old school bag and I can already tell that it's a big upgrade. There are plenty of pockets and lots of room in the main compartment.

The backpack is well made and comfortable. I wish there were pockets inside of the main pouch for a bit more security for things like passports.

I wanted to love this backpack but there's a design flaw: the pockets squish so you don't get the available space to put stuff. I mainly use it to carry my laptop, files and office forms. It feels bulky. I'm short: 5 feet 2 so although it's comfortable I wish the pockets could hold more.

Not to many outside pockets makes in secure and sleek for the city. But still so much room. Great for overnight trips, day hikes and travel/commuting.

I am a big fan of North Face backpack. I bought a Jester during my family's vacation in Florida. My son took it for his college. So, I decided to get another one for me. I ordered a borales but my wife like the black and yellow when the backpack arrived. At the same, the design of boreal is not much different from the jester. So, I decided to get this one, recon. This time I bought the classic black. I am very satisfied the design. However, I found a little issue with the laptop compartment. The zippers doesn't go all the way. It stops halfway. That's my only issue.

Use this backpack mainly for my daily office commute and business travel, and it is well suited for that. Really like the separate laptop compartment.
Planning to also use it for hiking during my holidays, should be fine for that too (although field testing will still need to be done).

I've been wanting to get a new backpack for a while now and I'm really glad I got this one. It's very good quality, I already know it's going to last me years. The color is super cute and simple. And there are so many pockets for a slim backpack.

It's really nice and compact! When I first got it, the bag was really stiff and it bummed me out a bit but that was when I hadn't broken it out yet - like when you get new shoes. It's really comfortable, a helps make stand straight since the bag stands tall, (doesn't stand on its own ;( ) and it feels really well made, vv nice. One thing I wish there was more room? Sure I use it for school but it feels so tight when it's supposed to be able to carry more than the borealis. Anyways, that's really my only issue. :) but do your research!

I just got this backpack after my old one broke, and this one is great! It fits all my book and laptop perfectly. It is a little stiff, but hopefully it will loosen up with time.

Everything is very good about this backpack; however, after 3ish months of use the side pockets ripped, but I contacted customer survive and send me out a new one.

I am a full-time student and have been using this backpack for about a year and a half. I love it. However, I've found that this bag has its pros and cons. The Recon has room for lots of storage with its various pockets both in and on the bag, making it easier for me to stay organized. The bag appears very sleek and simple, yet stylish, which I am a huge fan of. However, one thing I am not too fond of is the condition of the mesh water bottle pockets. I never expected my water bottle to leave such noticeable tears in the pockets, especially after not being in either one for very long. I carry around a 32 oz. Hydro Flask in my bag, and maybe I'm at fault for thinking I could do so without causing any damage, but I'm still disappointed with the pockets' durability. Quite honestly, I get a little sad when I look at the pockets because I feel like the bag doesn't look as nice anymore, and that maybe I'm not getting all of my moneys worth out of it. I'm not sure if the warranty still applies to me/my bag, but if it does, I would absolutely love it if TNF team could reach out and let me know. Regardless, I think this bag is wonderful, and extremely efficient, and I most definitely recommend it to those looking at it.

I ordered this product to use for college. I love it! I got the vintage white and new taupe green colored one, the white is a little less vibrant in person than online. I still really love the look of the backpack. A common complaint in the reviews was that the backpack cannot stand on its own, this is true. However, when filled it stands easier. The reason it does not stand on its own is because of the back support, which I would rather have than have my backpack stand freely. The only other thing is that the straps are a little uncomfortable, but its a fairly new backpack so with time it will probably get more comfortable. I expected to have more space in the middle packet, but it is enough room for what I need. Despite these few negatives, the backpack is great!
