I am usually a size 8.5 in 95% of shoe brands. I decided to heed the advice of fellow reviewers and order a half size down. When I got the 8b I could barely get the boot on, and it was extremely tight across the top of my foot. Considering that this is full-grain leather I knew that it would probably stretch, but I did not want to be miserable until it loosened up. Zappos customer service is amazing and they sent me the 8w boot without having to return the first set of boots first, so I was able to compare the boots together. I was concerned that the wide boot would both look enormous and flop around on my foot, but I found the 8w to be very similar to an 8.5b. As for comfort these shoes are great. My mom and I share a horse so when we go on a trail one of us will walk while the other rides and then we switch at some point (cue all the comments from other trail riders of "did you lose your horse?!". My first time wearing these I probably walked 2 miles in a prairie setting that alternated between very firm compacted earth and unstable sand. I also was supporting a rubbed ankle from breaking in a new pair of flats. I never even once was aware of any discomfort or rubbing. I also have plantar fasciitis in one foot so I can't just wear any shoe and be comfortable. I really like the neutral style of this boot. I have a pair of Ariat lace-up paddock boots that I have been wearing for over a decade and are still going strong, but I'm a pretty lazy person so I wanted something that was slip-on that also didn't go up to my knee like my show boots that are gathering dust in a closet somewhere. While these are definitely not English style, they aren't in-your-face Western so I feel that I can get away wearing these with breeches. I bought the boots in distressed brown because I think that they look more stylish and I can easily see myself wearing them around town. The black color would probably be even more neutral and fit in well in any riding discipline. The only reason I could see for not liking these boots is that since they aren't laced you don't have as much ankle support- but that isn't a concern for me.

My wonderful husband gave me a new pair when the first pair fell apart after 5 years of HARD labor. The fit (7C) is perfect. I've worn these boots through building a community garden, landscaping my own yard, shoveling broken sewage lines, construction sites , and rocky, cactus-filled pastures. LOVE these boots! I also have the Heritage Western for dress -- love them! Will never be without my Ariats. BTW, I nailed the old ones to the fence for bird abodes because I can't bear to throw them away.

I recently had to change all my shoes due to needing wider shoes to accommodate orthotics and bunions. My doc tried to take my cowboy boots! I said no. My idea was to try these and it was a GREAT call. The heel is low enough so that it doesn't force pressure to the front of the boot and the width accommodates the orthotic. I use boot socks and they're perfect to wear. HIGHLY recommended for girls not wanting to give up boots for foot problems. I ordered the 7 and 7.5 to figure out what would fit better and I found the 7 to be a better choice given how this style will stretch and give. The 7.5 was already feeling too lose. And yes, I'll ride in them too!

Love the distressed brown. I've gotten so many compliments on their simplicity. I wear on horseback and with a festive hippy skirt.

I was in search for new pair of boots and the past reviews, price point and brand reputation did it for me. Living up to the expectations a week in! Comfortable, stylish ( but not too much), and very high quality. These do it for me, I'll be !

Very comfy. Requires a little breaking in, but not much. Soon fit like a glove :) Good, basic roper.

Terrific boot, especially for those who prefer a wider toe box and a low heel. While I typically wear a 9, the 8 1/2 was a better fit. Simple, versatile, comfortable!

I LOVE this boot. I bought the brown ones. The leather is excellent quality and these boots should prove to be a comfortable fit. Sadly they did not fit me, I had too much room in the toe area (It was long) so I will be returning them. I still would highly recommend them.

I usually where a B width and needed C in these but otherwise they fit great and are very comfortable. I broke them in easily and wore them all day.

I'm new to the boot game and was given the Ariat name from a friend. The thing I'm most impressed with is that these boots required no break in period. After the first day they were perfect and continued to be wonderful.

I was looking for a good but cute pair of boots for horseback riding. I saw these and they seemed perfect. Not to flashy and love the distressed brown color which as they get more worn it will just had my distressed character to the boot. I normally wear a 5 to 51/2 and decided to order these in a 5 due to other reviews. I got them in 1 day with free shipping. I tried them on and they fit perfect right out of the box.they were comfortable but got even better once they were broken in. They were perfect while riding and great for everyday wear to. I would purchase these again in a heartbeat.

Great boot! Comfortable for riding, walking or farm chores. I wore them in the snow, ice and rain, they are definitely water proof. They run slightly larger than the Terrain Ariat H2O boots I own. I love Ariat, they never let me down.

Bought a pair of these in 2008. FINALLY buying a replacement. In the mean time bought a similar pair for my father who is also still wearing these. The sole is non slip, the upper is a good leather which wears well. This pair has seen many trips to Corn/Soybean Fields/Harvest, Motorcycle rides and even trips to Church. Durable enough for field work, Good looking enough for Church. Only "complaint" is that the sole wore out after nearly 10 YEARS! (i.e. no complaint)

I love these boots, but there was a strange thing. I ordered both the 6.5C and 7C sizes and I'll be keeping the 6.5C pair because they felt larger (less tight across my instep. I don't normally wear a C width but knew these ran narrow. I'm very glad I did, even the C width is pretty narrow.

These are awesome and very true to size. My feet tend to run on the wide side and normal width was just fine.

Bought these for myself as my first pair of western boots designed by Ariat, I'm more than happy with them, couldn't believe how well they fitted and how comfortable they are. Didn't really want to take them off! Love the distressed brown colour. Guaranteed to impress and give you the comfort you need as you work and ride.
