Fits like a sock - It is a great shoe. I work at a golf course and my feet are wet every day but so far they have held up. The only thing I would mention to a potential internet buyer is that there is not traditional tongue. If you look closely at the photos the shoe fits more like a sock. This makes it a little difficult to get on but once on is very comfortable.

Great for walking! Love these shoes! Just walked in the Lake District in the UK and they were terrific. BUT, be sure to buy at least one size larger.

Nice shoes, but they feel a bit smaller than the size 11 that I ordered.

I cannot believe... That I keep finding a shoe that's better than the last one I bought. But it's true -- the XCR is lightweight and breathable and it conforms to the shape of my foot. I put 12 miles on them the first time I wore them and it felt like I could wear them forever.

The ultimate terrain shoe - I live in Chicago and I wanted a shoe for daily extensive walking, running, as well as being waterproof and snow proof. It's almost impossible to find anything like this shoe, and the few that I have seen have been pretty unappealing, looks wise. As far as fit, I wear a 10.5 in Reebok, Saucony, and New Balance running shoes. I needed an 11 in this shoe. Another thing to note is that I have a narrow foot and this shoe fits me perfectly. I would think if someone has a wide foot that they might even go up 2 sizes, as opposed to me going a 1/2 size larger than the shoes I mentioned. It took about 1 day to break them in, as they're a bit stiffer than your average running shoe, but once I walked around for a day or two, they feel great. As a 5 year owner of the Montrail Java which I still wear to this day, I'm hoping for at least 5 years out of this shoe too, which makes the price totally worth it. Montrails rule!

Fantastic fit - The shoe fits better than any other hiking/running shoe I've owned in the past few years. The heel is rigid and the toe has room to slightly move. Traction on slippery roads is great.

Great waterproof trail shoe - This is a lightweight, breathable (yet waterproof) running shoe that has a lot of tread. It's my first pair of Montrails and I'm very happy with them. I have a very narrow foot and they still fit very tight which I prefer. If you don't like a snug fit, I don't think this is the shoe for you. I went to REI, tried them on, and then ordered them from Zappos at a better price, no tax, and free overnight shipping! Had them in less than 24 hours. Thank you.

Montrail Hurricane XCR - I have a longer narrow foot - normally would wear size 12B - at times have worn 12.5 or 13 in athletic shoes to keep from losing toenails - after reading reviews on this shoe I ordered it in 13 and couldn't be happier with the overall fit. The way that the shoe is designed gives a very snug secure feel at the ankle and the shoe is very supportive while giving ample toe room and a fit that has no hotspots. This is my first product from Montrail but won't be my last.

A killer on wet rocks - I like the Hurricane Ridge XCR and its sibling the Leona Divide in every respect but they are VERY SLIPPERY on wet rocks. I've had two nasty falls while wearing them to tour underground caves. Put Vibram soles on this baby, Montrail, and you'll have a star on your line-up.

I like them - I bought Montrail's Hurricane XCR without knowing anything about the company or the fit of their shoes. At first, they were harder to break in than I expected, but once I got rolling, I found them to be comfortable to wear for long stretches. They seem extremely sturdy. We'll see how they hold up.

Great shoe for beach, muddy trails, not rocks - Excellent construction, fit like gloves. Soles are great for loose trail materials, but very slippery on wet rocks such as found on higher elevations. Have tried them on Spencer Butte near Eugene, OR and on the wet rocks of the Jetty. Had to use hand-holds on larger, slippery rocks. Recommend softer sole shoes for running over wet boulders. Feet kept dry. Will stay with Montrail for ultra trails.

For trail shoes, pick softer rubber

Patagonian Trek to the Horn and more. Received shoes one day prior to departure for a South American adventure from Chile to the Horn, Uruguay to Argentina. Wide range of climate and conditions. The shoes performed flawlessly. However, be aware that the shoe runs small. I wear a men's 8 street shoe, an 8 1/2 in New Balance, and this shoe worked in a 9.

Looks good but fit tight - I bought these shoes because I liked the look and loved the reviews. But after wearing them for a few days they wouldn't break in and worse they seemed to feel tighter and tighter- until they gave me blisters. They pinch me in the back of my heel. I bought some Salomon’s and I'm much happier with them. Be careful.

The best hiking shoe. I bought them for hiking out west in the snow. They are comfortable for casual wear or hiking and my feet stayed completely dry.

Great shoe - Good shoe however needed to order twice due to the shoe feeling a size smaller than on the label. I normally wear 12 had to bump up 12.5, maybe could have even gone 13. Still the best traction sole out there.

Excellent Shoe - Great shoe. Sturdy, lots of support. Beware, Montrail runs small. I got a full size larger and that worked, especially with shoes that have Gore Tex.

Hurricane XCR review - I wore this shoe right out of the box in a 50Km trail run that was a muddy mess. My feet were dry as a bone. I developed a blister on my big toe, but was happy with the fit. I will keep shopping at Zappos thanks to their speedy delivery at no extra cost. Thank you for excellent service.

Nice shoe - Overall very happy with the shoe. Little stiff at first. In general though, it is very comfortable and has a lot of support.

Foul Weather Shoe - I have run in the Hurricane three (3) times including a run in steady drizzle. I have purchased Montrail shoes a number of times and I like the support; however, Montrail shoes are too rigid and firm to be good running shoes. This shoe is not soft but has enough cushioning to suit me for trail running. The shoe is stable and supportive for trail running. Arch support is average. Feet stayed dry during run in the rain and great traction.

Montrail For Me! A friend of mine in Colorado turned me on to this brand. I was hiking, walking, and trail running and required a shoe that fit well and offered adequate support to my high arch and narrow foot. I will never go back to another brand of athletic shoe. The fit is great and the traction even better. I hike rocky terrain and this shoe never slips and always grips. What's not to like? It's a great shoe for the money.

Noisy - I'm not sure if it’s normal for this shoe or not, but it is extremely loud. Indoors it sounds like I am walking with plastic bags tied around my feet. I am debating on whether to return this and get something different.

Great shoe, great service - I have recently bought this shoe after wearing the vitesse for years. I think that the quality changed or maybe my foot, as the vitesse started causing problems. I was ordering discount and maybe they were seconds. This is a great fitting, durable shoe that does about everything. After wearing this, I am sure that I will order the Sierra Leona for summer time and I will order again from Zappos as the two day delivery and service are the best. I will happily pay the full price for their products and service

Great shoe- I got these for hiking as I prefer a light and nimble shoe over a traditional boot. These perform very well- great comfort, fit and style. They also get great traction in mud, roots and dry.

Great Shoes for Active, Sensitive Feet - These shoes are the best I've found in years! I have a history of related foot and back problems, wear orthotics, and avoid bad shoes at all costs. I took a chance with Montrail after liking how they looked and liking the fit in the store. They immediately became the only shoes I want to wear, and I've had happy, healthy feet with daily walking and lots of activity for eight months now. I'm so delighted with their support, comfort, water-proofness yet decent breathability, and look that I now own three pairs! My original red ones are still my favorite color, but the dark blue is great too (men's and women's fit the same). They're expensive but worth it. Great job, Montrail. You've become my favorite shoe company.
