Before I got these I usually just went with Merrell's since they usually last so long, but my last pair split right at the toe (on both shoes! And of course ruined the waterproofing, so I decided to try a different brand. Very glad I did, these are really comfy both on trail and off and keep my feet nice and dry. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the sole doesn't have much grip on ice (not a big concern) and the footbeds aren't that great. I would highly advise getting some superfeet insoles as soon as possible for any pair of shoes.

Great all around boot - After ordering several different brands of boot I finally settled on the Montrail Torre. It has a great last that I beleive fits a wider variety of feet than most hiking boots. I am very happy with this purchase.

Not for me - I bought these boots a year ago and wore them around the house to break them in, after getting professionally fitted. They felt great in the store and around the house, but once on the trail they were oh so painful. I added superfeet insoles and wore a liner sock with a smartwool midweight sock. The problem I had with these boots was heel rub. My heel is very narrow and these boots just didn't work out for me, but my foot is different than yours so they may work. Another problem I had was how they held up. I took them on a backpacking trip and hiked 12 miles each day for two days and the rubber toe cap started to come off and the leather got a big gash on one side. I think these boots are more of a light hiker with the weight of a heavy backpacking boot. Not my favorite but maybe they will work for you.
I'd also recommend:

I really liked the boots when I got them. It took some time to break them in but all was great after that. Unfortunately after 2nd winter season of light hiking (mostly 2-3 day trips on the AT) boots started to leak water in the toes area. I am puzzled because there is absolutely no damage to the exterior of the boots. I expected much more from expensive boots. I will not purchase Montrail product again.
