Great Shoe, a little trouble with the engineering - I find this to be a very comfortable sandal. It is oversized by a whole size, so if you wear a 10M (as I do), order a 9M. The only problem I had with mine was that the quick release buckle does just that--it quick-releases, but not only when you are expecting it to. The slightest pressure applied, such as inadvertently crossing your feet or leaning against something, will result in your sandal hanging on by the toe straps only- not very good engineering, if you ask me.

Be forewarned - The sandals have a very nice sole; however the buckle on the side of the sandal is exactly at the point at which my talus projects. This makes the sandal unwearable for me. I'll have to return it.

I'm returning as these are not comfortable. I was hoping they'd be as comfortable as other Mephisto sandal styles but it's not even close. They do look nice but I wanted to wear them, not just look at them.

What a disappointment. After trying, and failing, to find a replacement for my old Tevas, I came upon the Mephisto Alligator. Boy, did it look good. A deep, surrounding foot bed, great styling and a sexy, plastic latch. The reviews were glowing (I forgot to read the ones from unhappy people), so I decided to pay twice what I wanted for a pair of sandals and ordered a pair. When I got them, I slipped one on and tried to latch the closure. After trying 8 or 10 times, I realized that it would never close on my foot. The amount of adjustment available in the strap was quite small, but when opened all the way, made it just possible to close the latch. But then, I couldn't get it to open! The length and width of the sandal seemed just right, but that strap was literally impossible to get to close and open comfortably, with my foot in the sandal. Then, I noticed that the depressions that were designed into the foot pad (a la Birkenstock) did not match the positions of my heel and toes. Some fine print on the tissue wrapper in the box suggested that wearing a size larger, so your foot could move around a bit more, would possibly be more comfortable, overall. My patience was at an end, and I returned them, without further experimentation. These may be perfect for some feet, but not for mine. Incidentally, I later found the Teva I was looking for, the Langdon model.

If you are going to wear this pair of sandals on wetlands, then please do not buy it. I own these Mephisto Alligator sandals. They were durable until I crossed a swamp in Southeast Asia, the sole begun to peel off starting from the tip of the toes, and the side of the sandals also begun to peel off.

Last time with Mephistos! I bought the first pair of these years back and it was a great sandal and lasted many years. When it wore out I returned and bought a second pair. The second pair was not the same, felt cheaper and indeed it lasted half as long. I then left and tried other brands not intending to come back. After dissapointment with the other brand I decided to give these one last chance. My mistake. The last pair of these was missing the branding of Mephistos on the buckle and not clear on the sole. My first impression was cheap, and that Mephistos knew it and didn't want their name as prominent. I was right, this pair less than a year old with little use feel apart. The week point in the stitching, the entire back tore loose from the sole. I have pictures and while the sandals look in good shape, the print on the sole has little wear, yet the stitches are deteriorating all over. For $200 a pair it make me very angry, what do you have to fork out to get anything quality. To note a similar thing happened with the second pair as well, stitches went bad. I don't know about other people but my policy is when a brand company screws me I leave them forever. So Mephistos you made me love you with my first pair, then confused me with the second pair being so much less, then the third pair makes me hate you. So you saved some money to make a cheaper sandal and lost all future revenue from me!!! Hows that work out for you?

Size and fit as anticipated. I had a first generation pair of Mephisto sandals purchased in Paris in 2003 - they were the most comfortable, sturdy and best foot protecting sandal out there. Unfortunately the rubber aged with time and the sandals could not be worn. Thanks to Zappo's wonderful return policy, I tried 5 other types of sandal, all cheaper, that I thought could replace my original Mephisto's. While all were great, none was as sturdy as Mephisto while some, the Keen's that have an excellent sock like support system were incompatible with my aging feet. When I finally took the plunge and ordered the Alligators, there was no comparison. Great sandal - Mephisto makes the best shoes, boots and sandals.

I purchased a pair of these and after a couple of months one of the plastic fasteners stopped working. I called Zappos and they gave me a return order for free shipping and overnighted another pair. I had them the next day! Great service, and I obviously like the shoes.

I find the Mephisto Sandals very comfortable which have an insert in the heel for impact similar to the Nike Air Running Shoe and the best for heel problems (spurs) I purchased two (2) pairs of Gobi Allrounder in 09 and 10. Now I have purchased one (1) pair of Alligator Allrounder. Only minor problem is the toe strap of the alligator does not have a sliding adjustment, which the Gobi allrounder has. When the Gobi wears out, I will transfer the strap to the alligator. And I will purchase another pair of alligators when that happens. I wear these sandals almost daily, approximately 300 days a year. Run walk 2 miles daily in 30 - 33 minutes. The other days of the year I run in Nike Air (MaxAir).

This is the finest pair of sandals I have experienced in the last thirty years. The inner sole is extraordinarily comfortable, straps are easy to adjust for proper fit, and the clips make fastening and removal a breeze.

Great quality that lasts a long time! They are worth the price. I wore my first pair year round for three years and they are still in good shape. I wore them touring Europe. Great comfort, support, and style.

This is my second pair. I wore the first down to the nub. They started out comfortable and got comfortabler. My old pair's Velcro was left-handed, while my new one's is right-handed which is a bit less easy to use for a natural left-hander - like me. Otherwise my new ones fit my extra-wide foot without any problem and were immediately comfortable and supportive right out of the box. Pricy, but well worth it.

I am a boater and I feel very sure footed climbing around a 36 foot boat in all weather conditions. I can also walk forever in these sandals never have had tired or sore feet. I am about to buy my fourth pair and I know they are very expensive but the are so good! I wear them all the time an get 2 years before I replace them for the look of a new pair. So I currently have 2 pairs that still function perfectly but do not have the perfect look of the new pair that I am going to buy now.

I had a two-year old pair of Ecco Yucatans that I really liked, and these cost twice as much. I bought these Mephistos on the thought that maybe more expensive is better. It isn't, exactly. Getting used to these, the shaped footbed is the very biggest obstacle. Hugely tall heel, very low toes, high arch bump. The entire footbed is sunken a bit, which surrounds your foot with a small raised edge that makes it hard to get rocks out when they get under your foot. A surprising thing visually is that these sandals have heels - real, separate heels, like a dress shoe, not a one-piece rising sole that hits the ground flat. That looks kind of funny at first but I got used to it. Sizewise, my foot rattles around in these because they are much wider than any other sandals I've bought in the last few years. That is not bad, just be warned - they are a bit wide. I bought the brown sandals, and they are a very light brown, almost tan. Not bad color, but much lighter than anyone else's "brown" sandal. I have no idea about durability - I've only worn these day in and day out for three weeks. Good so far! My only real complaint is that these sandals have plastic clips to take the over-foot strap on and off, and the left one on my set of sandals is very balky and they both feel flimsy and require just-right foot positioning to work. After the third try at freeing my left foot or at getting the things to latch when I'm not positioned exactly straight over my sandals, I find myself wishing they'd just used velcro!

I liked the shoe but found out upon receiving the item that could not adjust tighter to fit my feet. The strap over the top and back did not give sufficient room to tighten up to my feet. Disappointed as I liked the shoe and was surprised they did not give better strap room to adjust to a persons foot. It appears they did not consider someone with a half size difference.

I thought there was too much plastic used on a $200.00 sandal. The straps were too short, the stitching was not very good for a pricey shoe. Was not impressed.

None at this point, Ecco was perfect, of course they have changed them just enough to ruin the fit.

I have a pair of the original Mephisto alligator sandals, in brown, made in France. These were not called Allrounders. I thought I was getting the originals when I recently ordered them in black. What I got was a cheaper knock-off, made overseas, endorsed by Mephisto. While they are barely acceptable, they don't fit like the originals. They don't have the green M on the buckle, and it says allrounder on the ankle strap instead of Mephisto. I was disappointed.
I'd also recommend:
Make sure you get Mephisto if that's what you ordered.

Would have liked to buy these sandals but I was unable to adjust the straps to accommodate my narrow foot. Very comfortable but loose. Usually take size 9 but size 8 was the right size for length.

The sole of this shoe has a very pronounced hump which is supposed to go under your toes. I really expected to like these shoes, and was convinced I would adapt to them. I tested them over three or four days in the house for around 20 minutes at a stretch. Finally I made my mind up, and they had to go back. It's a shame, but that bump was simply too large and strange for my feets. I liked the Shark, but could not get over the strange "trench" which goes around the inside of the sole. Both features, the hump and the trench, are obviously to improve grip. For these shoes, the 43 was the right size for me. In the US sizes, I am a 10.5 or 11 person. I will try the Brice next, and I can't can't imagine that none of the three will work out for me. A very different sandal which is very comfortable which worked out for me is the Naot Climb.

Such a shame, these used to be high quality sandals. This is my third pair of Mephisto Alligator Sandals, the first two pairs were great, but now they are not made by Mephisto and they are a cheaper quality shoe made in Vietnam. Be aware they do not look like the picture above. They say "Allrounder" on them and all of the Mephisto Logo's have been removed. The leather and stitching is not as good as my first two pairs. They are still an ok sandal, but not worth the money.

I am a big Mephisto fan. Wear these for a day in the house on carpet before you decide to keep them. I found the cup like design of the footbed tends to crowd the foot. On my foot the outer side is annoying and I cannot wear them for any length of time before I have to take them off.

The clip-closures system ruins this sandal. Beware, it's really awkward to clip them on and almost impossible to unclip them off. Otherwise it's a good sandal, of quality materials and plenty of adjustments. Not worth the price.
