There was no cushioning under the ball of the foot and no room to add additional cushioning. The lack of cushioning made the shoe very uncomfortable

These boat shoes are handsome but uncomfortable. The inside is rough even with socks, some of the seams rub, and there’s an uncomfortable ridge where the partial insole ends. I returned them.

Can this shoe be made with a removable insole llike the Gold Cups are? Many of us wear orthotics and must use our own inserts to deal with old bad feet. These are just too shallow in the forefoot to accomodate my foot and the orthotic. Thanks. Tom Fisher, LOOONg time Sperry wearer (like since the days you made KUDUS)

This version of the Mako has an unfortunate major design flaw problem for me making them impossible to wear. The heel cup is extended up for some reason and physically contacts and rubs against my outer ankle bone (lateral maleolus) when walking... I thought they would break in and soften to the point where would be o.k. but no go. I try to wear them with socks but only slows down the rub and always end up switching to something else, so take that into consideration when ordering online or trying in store....

I very much like to wear boat shoes for the casual look. Like the look of this shoe and bought it. At first I didn't like the feel going on inside the shoe. Three different materials inside shoe plus the narrow foam lift under the heel. Needed to break them in. As I wore the shoe, it became noticeable that the shoe contact with ground was soft and not steady. To me the sole of the shoe is larger than the body and therefor does not provide good stability. You are aware of it while you are walking . It's good a looking shoe but not working for me. Their going in the Goodwill bag, hopefully they will find someone's feet who will be happy.

Bought online b/c out of stock in store. Probably my 5th pair of Sperry's but these were at least a size too small. I've worn an 11m for 35 years and these aren't even close. Unwearable.

I love Sperry shoes but I have purchased 2 pairs of these shoes and both of them the heals squeak when you walk in them and their brand new. I will be sending this new pair back and hopefully they will get this problem fixed.

Everything is fine with the product. It is attractive and well made. The shoes make a strange clicking noise when walking on hard surfaces such as cement, tile or hardwood floors. It is loud and very irritating. This does not happen when walking on carpet.

The stitching of the outer heel leather (logo) piece was not level or correct. Left and right shoe of that piece did not even match each other. Very sloppy stitching. Also, laces were too short, and of very poor quality. Laces felt like a cheap imitation of what my last pair had. Returned shoes for a refund.

Have purchased this shoe for over 15 years. The product quality has declined significantly after it has been manufactured overseas. The dye bleeds onto your socks on the inside and is impossible to wash off. The soles are made of inferior material and wear easily over one summer (that was not the case years ago). Leather is poor quality and becomes deformed easily. Not worth the premium price. Too bad as they had a wonderful product in the past. Very disappointed!

I am cursed with a narrow fit by my Italian heritage so the availability of shoes in my size is limited. Fortunately Sperrys' boat shoes are reasonably priced and come in narrow widths. I don't have a boat, but they are my "go-to" casual shoes which progress to my "bumming around" shoes as I don't like sandals. I have worn them with and without socks with slacks when they are new and then with jeans or shorts, when they start to lose their luster. I polish them when they are new and give them some boot oil when they age. I have bought several over the years and was happy with them until recently. Something has changed and while the uppers are leather the padding at the heel and other components are not and they disintegrate. Worst of all, the soles on my last two pair have cracked and flop around and I have not used them around chemicals, gasoline or oils. I don't know if the old Sperrys were made in USA, but these are made in China. Sadly, I have bought my last pair of Sperrys and will try other brands.
I'd also recommend:
Rockport, Dunham.

I have worn theses shoes for over a year and they are NOT COMFORTABLE. I bought these as they were replacing Mephisto's and well they can't compare I grew up on Sebago and these Sperry's are not even close in comparison. They are moderately durable and true to size but they are so uncomfortable I am throwing them out this minute. I am so over these things I feel like burning them and returning the charred remains to Sperry! DO NOT BUY THESE SHOES they are HORRIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE!
I'd also recommend:

The coffee mako images shown above are misleading to the product that is actually shipped. The color was different from what is shown.

I ordered the coffee colored Mako and got a different colored shoe. The image above is misleading. I did not get what I ordered but the return process is not worth the trouble to send them back. The different color is the main reason for the 2 star rating.

The manner in which the shoe is photographed fails to show this shoe has a lighter color leather with "Sperry Top-Sider embossed. This embossment is on the back of the shoe (can't miss it) and the shoe tongue.. I was actually shocked when removing the shoes from the box. Did not want to go through the hassle of returning...I note the overall shoe leather is thin.

After I purchased these shoes, I noticed it was wearing bad on the rear of the shoes. After approx a few months, I looked at the bottom of my shoe and I noticed the right side shoe sole had cracked. I talked to sperry and their answer was "Too bad, not my problem" I think they should stand behind their products and guarantee the material quality. If I could give them a half star, I would. I will not be purchasing another pair of Sperry. I don't recommend their shoes.

I think that Sperry forgets that people actually wear them on boats. The soles of this shoe are very slippery on dry fiberglass.

These smooth leather amaretto Makos are comfortable and the uppers appear to be good quality and still look great. Unfortunately the outer soles and mid soles have turned out to be real junk, completely unworthy of the Sperry name! On both shoes the outsoles and midsoles have split all the way from the inner edge at the ball of my foot to the outside of my foot, at the line where they bend. And the outer sole is detaching from the midsole and breaking off in pieces. Very poor quality material which looks like it has "fatigued", hardened and cracked rather than remaining flexible. Made in China. A very disappointing departure from former Sperry quality!

The shoe looks and fits great. My objection is that the shoe stain which is inside the shoes comes off on my stockings staining them brown. This has never happened with any other pair of shoes which I have purchased and is unacceptable.
