Well Made & Super Comfy - The M587 satisfies! I'm a heavy guy and I love to walk, so finding these shoes was a real boon. At Zappa's I talked with a sales rep who recommended them and I couldn't be happier; my feet love these babies. Feels like I could walk forever. I also do a lot of standing in my work and have previously had problems along about the fourth or fifth hour...not any more, the M587's are supportive and way cushy. I'll be buying them again and again.

Shoes for the Clydesdale in your life. If you're over 210 lbs and running [8 min miles or less] over 25 miles a week this is the shoe to be in. The shoe is big and heavy but so isn't the person usually wearing it so what's a few extra ounces. Incredibly comfortable and easy wear. I've recommended this shoe to my big friends and all have had a positive experience with its support and cushioning. I have occasionally tried other shoes such as the Brooks Beast but have always gone back to this shoe. So if you're a big guy with a low to medium arch pick up a pair and enjoy a less taxing run especially when you go the longer distances.

NB M587 - Good arch support, breathes really well. Its nice not to have a white shoe in a size 16b! Easy to clean too! Thank you, Zappos!

New Balance M587 - These are my favorite shoes. I always have 3 pairs on hand (or should I say, "on foot"). They I are the only shoes I wear. I even wear them to weddings to the utter disgrace of my wife. I always by them larger than my size and find them extremely comfortable this way. I have happy feet!!

New Balance - It was amazing how fast the shoes were delivered. My son is at school out of town. The shoes were delivered to him the day I thought they would be shipped.

Wide, Soft Runner, My Favorite - These are my favorite shoes one the planet. Soft, wide and, I think, nice to look at. The sizing and width are both odd. I wore a 10E New Balance up until this shoe (497, 990, 991, 1122). My main runners, 992s and 2001s, I wear 9.5E. But the 587s are roomy for me at 9D. (This is my 10th or 11th pair.) Great for medium-distance runs -- and breathe better than any other NB -- but they lack to control that the 991s and 2001s give me on longer runs, when I get tired and my gait gets sloppy.

Sturdy, comfy and ugly - If you're a fashion plate then you will be disappointed in this shoe. But you know that just by looking. If you are a big guy and need a shoe that will support you as you haul your carcass over the sidewalk this is the shoe for you. Comfortable and supportive the M587 has plenty of room in the instep, width and toe box. They're washable. What more can I say? If you're looking for good buy the shoe. If you're looking for fancy go to the mall. Oh...one more thing. Look no further for the "best deal". This is what you pay for this shoe. Zappos has the best customer service bar none. Period. So stop reading and start walking.

Tried and true - Have had this for many years, works well with orthotic, clunky but good -- have had shin splints off and on for long time -- this shoe with orthotic fixed that -- ugly, but does the job -- I’m 6'1' and 195.

awesome shoe - I have tried every brand on the market and NONE are as durable or as comfortable as the New Balance 587!! The wide sole and role bar are great for preventing ankle roll-overs on varying terrain. I love this shoe. As a matter of fact, I'm on my 6th pair. I am also a huge fan of Zappos, the price is competitive, I don't have to drive all over town shopping, and I get my order FAST!!

Long time Son of Crusher 587 - I've been wearing the 587 since it was first introduced many years ago. I'm well over six feet and weigh 235 pounds so when New Balance came out with this shoe and called it "Son of Crusher" I tried it right away. I've done eleven 50 mile trail runs and a couple of dozen marathons and it holds up extremely well. It is just as stable and comfortable for going distance as it is for walking the dogs. I especially like the tall toe box and being able to get it in 2E. Not many shoes have that combination. As long as it is being made, it will be my shoe.

My favorite running shoe - I’ve been an athlete for my entire life. I also spent 5 years in the Marines. In other words, you could say I've done a lot of running in my time. I weigh close to 245 lbs., and run on average 50 miles a week. I also have flat feet. You can probably see that the shoes I wear are important! I have tried dozens of different running shoes over the years-Nike (NOT for people with flat feet), Adidas, The North Face, Brooks, Asics, even other New Balance. All of them left me in pain when I was done exercising. I overpronate, so my feet, knees and hips all take a beating. Not to mention all that weight. These shoes were awesome. I can fit my orthotics inside comfortably. In addition, at the end of my 6 mile run, I was almost pain free! I only wish they came in a trail model. I will continue to look for one. Regardless, I plan on sticking to the 587. Oh, and they look kind of dumb, but they're running shoes. You should only wear them to run; otherwise they aren't good for your feet. (Running shoes are for running only!) In that regard, who cares if you're stylish when you're training? Also, if you get blisters when you run, try switching socks before you buy really expensive new running shoes. Remember, cotton socks kill! :) Rant off. Peace.

NB M587 for heavyweights - This is the best running shoe I've found for my weight and mass (255 lbs.). I've worn them and their predecessor for decades. Good support under stress. Good anti-pronation. However, does nothing to prevent supination. I keep hoping NB will improve these trusty old tanks in that regard.
I'd also recommend:
Clarks used to make a water-resistant chukka with a wrap-around rubber outsole and a very shallow, easy-clean tread.

New Balance M587 - I have been a New Balance customer for many years beginning with the original "crusher" M580. This shoe is in the tradition of the crusher by offering great support which does not break down the mid-sole. Being a big man and an over pronator, the support of the 587 is a perfect match for me. The 587 is a stiff, straight last shoe which I highly recommend if you too are a big man and seek motion control.

M587 is Great If You Have Flat Feet - I have absolutely no arches. That's right; my feet are completely flat - like a duck's. I have found that these shoes are the very best ones for my condition. They are very comfortable, even with the orthodics that I have to wear in all my shoes. They also give me better support than any others that I have found. Because of my condition, I normally wear out the outside of the heels on my shoes first. These shoes resist that wear pattern longer than any others that I have found.

Great training shoe - I wear 6 1/2 EE shoes and have high arches. Those who share my size know how hard it is to find shoes that fit AND feel good. I have been wearing the 587 style shoes for well over 10 years. I have trained for 5 and run 3 marathons and the 587's are the ONLY shoes I will run in. I am currently training for the NYC marathon in November '06 and will probably buy two more pairs to train and run the race. My only wish is that they would change the colors to have a choice in the same 587 style. The blue grey is nice... but I've been wearing blue grey since the early 90's.

The old 905's I think are discontinued... but they were great for trail running and aerobic cross-training

Very Sporty - I love the look especially with a nice pair of Jeans. My feet were very swollen so I ordered the widest width there was, it was such a relief, most of all they are very comfortable and sporty and that is exactly what I was looking for.

Great for diabetic feet- These shoes were recommended by a doctor for my husband, who has diabetes. They fit beautifully without pinching his toes. It's so convenient to be able to order the exact size and style he needs from Zappos.

Great shoe, half-size bigger than usual- Comfortable, light-weight, cushy and more importantly... less flashy than all of the other gaudy-neon-plastic shoes on the market.

Came back to these shoes- First off I am a 5'8" 155 lb. male that jogs between 15-20 miles a week on a treadmill. I had the 587's before and decided to try out other running shoes and am currently running with the New Balance 2000's. I am moderately flat footed but have the tendency to get blisters on the inside arches of my feet and so far I have yet to find any running shoe that matches the comfort of the 587's. I have decided to go back to the 587's and ordered myself a pair just the other day. It is a very durable shoe with lasting comfort during long periods of jogging. Highly recommend to anyone else and I will definitely stick with it until New Balance decides to discontinue it (hopefully never).

Excellent running shoe for anyone like myself, I am 200+ lbs, over 6ft and wear 4e width. I have been running in these for about 6 months and they are still comfortable (I do between 3-5 miles per day.) Also the heel cup on these shoes holds my foot in well which has been an issue with my orthotics in the past. I like the retro style as well...

Heavy runner's point of view- I am a heavy runner (210#), who runs about 3 xs per week, this shoe has held up well, very comfortable and looks great. I chose the 2e as they tend to run a little wide (normally I wear 4e). Great shoe overall...

587 and Dickies - I'm on my third pair of these kicks. I've been rocking the 587 with Dickies slacks for the last few years and the look is nice. For you serious people, the shoe is very comfortable but I wouldn't recommend taking it serious as an athletic shoe--too high center of gravity and too little structure--but man does it look good with my Dickies!

I ordered these in a Narrow but they are not very narrow, especially forward, enough that when laced securely the mesh area creases slightly. Also I think the style is "proven" but a little dated, but then so am I. Otherwise they are a comfortable supportive walking all-around shoe, and my orthotics fit well in lieu of the spongy insoles provided. Not impressive for the price, but adequate.

I walk a lot, and tend to have problems with my feet. These shoes offer the best support of any shoe I've ever used. They're amazing. I'm not a fan of the way they look, but that's subjective, and you can make your own decisions on that from the photos. Also, they don't have any leather in them. I'm taking a trip to India, and want to be able to have a leather free wardrobe, so that was helpful to me as well.
