I really wanted to like this--it's not like the picture. The leather is--not leather?--shiny and feels like plastic. I love purple and this is ugly in person. This boot had almost no support except for the incredibly stiff plastic upper.

First of all, there's nothing red - cherry or otherwise - about the misnamed Cherry Red Acadia. Make no mistake: they're brown. But that's in absolutely no way the greatest offense of these boots. They basically feel like plastic - I mean, I took them out and as soon as my hand made contact with the first boot I thought, is this some kind of joke? For $140, these boots are outrageously overpriced. The feel and look like something you'd pick up at Payless for a good $100 LESS. The only redeeming "quality" is that the soles are rugged and sturdy; without that, the boots would basically be light as air. If you've never bought Dr. Martens - or Docs - before, then maybe you'll enjoy these. But as someone who grew up in the 90s and broke in a pair proudly purchased on Carnaby Street in London, these are laughably poor imitations of what Docs used to be like. The pair I had was nearly indestructible; the boots I unpacked today already had scratches on them even though they're brand new, and the tongue was almost paper-thin. All and all, I'm completely dismayed at the poor quality of what Dr. Martens apparently now makes and sells - a far cry from the boots we all loved and wore to within an inch of their lives in past decades. Needless to say, these are going back.

I typically wear a 9.5 and my foot is a little on the wide side, so I sized up to a 10 in these. The foot of the boot fits very nicely on day 2. The patent leather on the shaft is very rigid and will take time to break in, as expected. I ordered the cherry red and the color is beautiful in person! Very deep black cherry color with highlights. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase, they match just about everything I own and are (and will be even more) comfortable.

In a word, rigid. I saw the reviews about the break in period. Remember the days of having to wash Levi's 6 times before you could wear them? No longer necessary. There is no reason, with today's technology, why there should be a break in period for shoes. A good pair of shoes should be comfortable out of the box. I knew this, but chose to ignore the reviews because I needed a good pair of boots that would hold up walking and standing on concrete. I'm not willing to wear these around the house for several weeks in the hopes that they loosen up and become the shoes I paid for. Sending back, ordered Keens.

Loved the deep cherry gloss on these boots. However, the cut of the boot fit me oddly. The length and width of the footbed was fine, but the vamp and the shaft were really large. Tightening up the laces as much as possible just accentuated the loose bulk. I don’t have narrow feet or thin legs. I know several people who absolutely love their Dr. Martens, so this boot just isn’t for me personally. However, I notice from reviews that the fit of this brand doesn’t seem to be very consistent. To be honest I didn't love the material of these shoes. I had Docs back in the 90's (when everyone did) and I was excited to get them again, especially in purple! But the material on the outside felt very cheap to me, almost like plastic. For almost $150 I'd like them to feel well-made. They're going back.

I felt these were true to size in both length and width. My biggest surprise was that they didn't take very long to break in. After reading about the stiffness of the leather, I thought it would take two weeks to a month to break them in but, in fact, it took wearing them just 15 minutes a day without socks to get them up to speed. I wore them a whole day, after the short break-in period, without any problems. They have a look that makes certain jeans look very cool and hip and I'm sure with some kinds of skirts and dresses too. I think the softer they get the more I will pair them with things I haven't yet thought about. Happy about this purchase. For the record, I am almost 70 years old and these still hold their appeal. I wore them a long time ago and have returned to them because they have that feeling of youth and rebelliousness. To hell with age appropriate!

Need to mold to my foot but for the dreaded break in it was fine.

I typically wear a size 9 in American shoes and a size 39 in European shoes. I ordered the UK 6 & UK 7, the latter was recommended to me on the size chart. The UK 7 felt WAY too roomy and big, the UK 6 felt just right. I kept the UK 6, the UK 7 is being returned. My recommendation to anyone buying these shoes is buy the size that the size chart recommends and the one that is one size down to see which one fits better. Be mindful that these shoes will stretch and mold to your feet. Other than that, so far I love this shoe. The color (purple smooth leather) is delish and the style is right on. I'm currently in the process of breaking them in, which I understand can take a while but is worth it. So here we go!

I purchased the smooth nappa over 6 months ago and they still look pretty good. Granted, I don’t wear my docs every day but do so often— even wore them during the brutal, winter months and both, docs and I, survived! Overall, a decent fit. I’m still trying to break them in but that’s a common occurrence.

I love these!! I’ve had many doc knockoffs growing up but I’m finally getting the real thing and I’m very happy with them. Super cute and comfy and I’m looking forward to wearing them all the time!! With dresses, jeans, leggings, whatever!!!

Fits great! Love the color, not quite black. Super comfortable.

I know from my own experience that Docs take a while to break in. With that said, my daughter ordered these. She loves them! She did have to wear double socks for the first week and I had her wear them at home a few days before wearing them to school. Now she loves them and says they're comfortable. They look darling with casual clothing as well as dresses and skirts (if you're under 30 lol),

Great quality you expect from Dr Martins! I still wear a 20 year old pair of these. This is actually purple as purple should be, not burgundy or maroon. Purple Boots!!

Love the style and how comfortable they are. I am usually a 6.5 in U.S and I chose the recommended size from Zappos which was a U.K 4, they were a perfect fit! I did take a bit to break one of them in, I have a very high arch and one shoe was a bit tighter on me around the top area because of this, I don’t believe it was the show’s fault, this seems to happen to me with many shoes. Once I wore them a few times, the leather gave in and now they feel better when I use them long periods of time. They really are beautiful. Zappos is always great at delivering quick as well!

I had talked myself out of buying these boots for so long. I read so many horror stories and watched videos about breaking these boots in and the pain involved...everything from blisters to bruises and the like. I kept researching and researching and one day, I just said to myself "I'm buying them". I knew I would be able to easily return them if they didn't work out. As for size, I am usually an 8 in UGG's and a 9 in Nike athletic shoes...I went with the size 8 in black nappa. These boots are beauuuutiful. Best of all, I was pleasantly surprised....I had no issues at all breaking these babies in and they fit beautifully right out of the box. The hardest part I had was lacing up the top eyelet...it hurt a little bit around my calf but it wasn't a deal breaker in the least. Best of all - no band aids or inner soles required! Maybe I am just one of the lucky ones...or maybe it's the nappa leather itself that breaks in easier than the other alternatives like the patent leather. So glad I finally took the plunge and chose the 1460 W....no regrets!

Still breaking them in, but so far good. Love the color. I usually wear a 9 1/2 shoe but always take a 6 in Dr. Martens. The 6 fits perfectly.

Love my new docs!

In black patent, these boots were cute, but distractingly squeaky. The soles were squeaky on normal floors, and the leather squeaked as I moved. Returning.

These are some of the best Docs I've ever owned. In addition to being well-made, durable, and comfortable, they are beautiful. I receive compliments every time I wear them. Wore them all over Europe over the holidays, and they were the only footwear I took. Perfect.

The fit, size and width were all absolutely perfect. I have to order these in a size bigger than my normal shoe size due to bunions and I had 2 surgeries. I usually have to get shoes that are not as hip!! I am really having fun with this brand. I bought 3 pairs of shoes this week, all docs because of the fit and size...5 stars!!!

I have terrible feet and have even had surgeries. these shoes are great for me. I get them a size larger and they are perfect!!! Plus, I am in style!Because they are patent leather,I think they are dresser which is a plus. I am so pleased with my purchase. a great look and comfort.

I was a bit apprehensive about buying a pair of Doc Martens online. Since Zappos has a great return policy I figured I'd give it a shot. The first size that I got was a size 7 because everything I read said to go down to size, even though I was a seven and a half. I had to return those because they were just a bit too small. I returned them for a size 8 and they fit absolutely perfect right out of the box. I'm surprised that the width fits me because I have very wide feet. I have worn these now two days straight, and the only issue that I have is where the tongue hits at the ankle, right where the Foot & Leg start. It will take some time to get these broken in, but overall they feel fantastic! Believe it or not, I have plantar fasciitis, and these shoes are not giving me any problems whatsoever. This review will be updated once my boots are broken in.
