Had to try it to believe it, but the plastic bit between your toes is really cheap and icky. "Flap" of leather on top of toes might take a bit of getting used to as well. Look good on but can't say I'd be able to walk around much. Bummer as I usually like Birks.

Had to send these back because my toes were uncomfortable at the edge of the shoe, and a larger size would not have worked for the rest of my foot.

My first pair of Birkenstocks at age 52. Okay, I guess my age qualifies me for the hippy generation, although I think of myself as more of a city girl than a hippy girl. But with all the rave reviews I decided to try these. I wanted a soft gold metallic sandal with most importantly 'comfort' and support for pounding the summer city streets. At first they felt good and supportive around the house. So took them outside for a stroll; trouble is after 5 blocks they started rubbing blisters on the bottom of my feet. The suede foot bed creates too much friction for a long walk in the summer heat. They're okay for a short stroll to the beach, but will not be a stalwart companion for the summer city streets.

For such an expensive piece of footwear, the quality of the materials was disappointingly low. Extremely oversized - no way these will fit in my usual shoe size. Look to be at least two full sizes too large. Returning.

The sandals were very stiff and the footbed does not bend or give at all - no cushioning. the leather top was stiff also. I returned then.

These birks are cute and comfy but I have to give them one star for durability. I’ve had pairs of birks that last years but I’ve worn these for less than 3 months and the straps are cracking. They look horrible. I’ve worn this same style for years and never had anything like this happen. Either I got a lemon, or quality has gone downhill. Buy at your own risk.

Is Zappos now a used shoe store?
Had to return the first pair of Birkenstocks I ordered because they had multiple blemishes in the footbed, as if they were worn. The second pair that I received today had toe marks on the footbed. No denying they were worn! And to add insult to injury, the $20 coupon for my troubles the first time around was never applied to this order.
Heading on vacation tomorrow with $99 pre-worn Birkenstocks from Zappos. I have no time to return. Yes, they are comfortable. But had to give 1 Star across the board for sending me used shoes two times in a row.
What is happening to Zappos?

I was very disappointed with this purchase. First, they are not leather. The fit is good but extremely uncomfortable. The plastic tab for the thong is very painful and makes these unwearable for long periods of time. I'm hoping that I'll be able to break them in. They look really nice!

The left shoe is defective because a staple is sticking out on the side that is against the foot. A previous customer put a sticky note on the shoe that pointed out it was defective because of the staple.

I’m so disappointed - these sandals really hurt. The spot where my toe touches the middle thong (between toes) is so rough my toe was bloody and burning after walking in them for just a few blocks. Size is fine - I’m not wearing a size too small. The materials used are just not good. Not at all what I expected from birks.

This is the 4th pair of Birkenstock sandals I have owned. Normally I love them and buy the exact style and color every time. However, this time, within a few weeks of wearing the strap cracked. It's like the leather was brittle. Something was certainly made differently with this pair of Birkenstocks than previous purchases. Returning and disappointed the quality seems to have changed.
