Hi all, bought these for myself via a christmas gift card to Zappo's from a family member. That process was very, very quick and easy. The hard part was deciding which Doc's I wanted. I decided on the low-top 1461 3-eye Gibson's in the more expensive Nappa leather. Mine are made in malaysia, have the Dr. Martin stamp near the heel of the shoe, and have the more classic Doc look, IMO. These shoes in two months of wearing them almost every day have been a GREAT shoe. I'm a size 13 and I ordered a size 13, and the fit is very comfortable. Just recently, I wore these for 2 full walking days around disneyland and enjoyed a very high level of comfort with very little foot fatigue each day. Still very pleased with my purchase and choice of the Black Nappa style.

If you are worried about the new shoes blues, it's going to happen so plan for it. If you like the Doc Marten style but don't want the boots, these shoes are a great alternative. As for comfort level they are the same as the boots once you have them broken in, but if you are planning to do a lot of walking I would go with the boots.

Great shoes. Need to be broken in before you try to walk to far. This takes only a a few days. Very comfortable walking and going about your day. Look great and will last a long time.

Dr. Marten's has made a change with the insole of these shoes. They are a lot more comfortable than I remember. I havent owned a pair of Doc Martens in ten years and Zappos made it easy to order up a new pair of Docs.

These are the ever-so-awesome basic starter shoes for the aspiring Doc Martens collector (boots sold separately). You can rock these office-casual while still getting that DM edge. Note that the "smooth" finish are a bit shinier than depicted in the images here on Zappos, which I consider to be a good thing - they have just the right balance. Very comfortable too. As with most docs these tend to run just a tad large, which I again prefer.

I am a teacher, and I am on my feet all day. For the past few years I have been going through shoes like crazy, and I was getting irritated of shoes breaking down after only three months of normal wear (which always surprised me when I have had a pair of Adidas tennis shoes that lasted me seven years, through college and grad school.). After doing some research, many paths lead back to Dr. Martens. I decided to take the plunge and shell out the money, on what hopefully would be a long-lasting pair of shoes. I was excited when the shoes arrived! New school year, new pair of shoes. I had read about from numerous people the notorious break-in period. Boy, was I in for a surprise. It was brutal. I considered returning the shoes. My heels had some deep cuts and I was walking funny in my class from the pain (Hindsight being 20/20, I should have brought a pair of already broken-in shoes to work with me... oh well). Anyway, I trudged through it, and suddenly after two weeks or so they were the most comfortable pairs of shoes that I have owned in awhile. They feel great, provide comfort all day, and fit perfectly. They have scuffed a little here and there, but some shoe polish fixed it up. They look fine with my work clothes, too. My only minor complaint is that the original shoe laces tend to become untied at least once per class period. I guess I could buy some longer ones or double-knot it or something. Today my current pair of brown work shoes broke at a seam after only three months. Based on my experience with these shoes, I am going to buy a brown pair of Dr. Martens!

If you wear Docs you already know. If you're new to them they don't do half sizes and their sizing is a little odd. If you're a US man's 11 buy a Doc Marten 12. If you're a US 9.5 woman's buy a Doc Marten 9. I have no idea why it works like that but it does. Full size up for men, half size down for women. After a wearing or two you'll find Doc Marten's to be the most comfortable shoe you own. The Air Walk soles are not only cool looking they're fantastic to walk on.

These Dr.'s are stylish as always. Takes about 2 weeks to break them down. This is my 3 pair and I love any model of Dr.'s.

I had a pair of Docs 20 years ago and loved them. Now, 20 years later, I have rediscovered them and love them once again. Add a little touch of subversion to your business day.

I bought two pairs just to help narrow down the UK sizes thing. I know Euro sizes pretty well, these were my first UK. I normally wear 37 (Dansko clogs) and ended up with UK5. I wear them with a thick sock. I may try next size down to wear with thinner sock next time.

Still a bit large, wear with thick sock like Smartwools. A lot lighter than imaged. Very comfortable out of box. May try another size down next time.

The simple style works as part of the costume my clients prefer me to wear -- mild-mannered Web consultant. Do they suspect my secret affinity for anarchy? By they time they figure it out, I'll be off to the next client, and when the revolution comes, the "office casual" jackals will be the first against the wall. Like the inevitable fall of the state, these shoes require patience. At first, they will be hard and inflexible. They will hurt you. In the end, it's your choice, use them as a tool to get you where you need to go or toss them on the ash heap of history.

I've been wearing Doc's for years so I really can't be objective about the sizing. It's British. Go a size larger than normal. This doesn't have the soft leather. It's stiff. That's part of it's appeal and what helps them last so long. I got 5 years out of my last pair. The stiff leather doesn't feel so good against my ankles until they break in. It can take a few months for that to happen.

Right out the box the feel was comfortable and sturdy. I have to agree that the US 10 runs a little large but I wouldn't recommend getting a half size smaller unless you want the Dredded heel biting. I wore them on a 4 mile hike on semi rough terrain and found that the top of my foot got a little sore from tightening the laces, my heel didn't hurt at all which is surprising as I have been battling the DM break-in's for 30 years. All around good sturdy construction with the classic boing in your step. As always Zappos delivery was amazing. Thanks!

I bought the 'nappa' leather 1461's and I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! They would be even more perfect if they came in half sizes, but besides that they look great. The only Docs available locally are the 'smooth' leather boots and from trying them on (and inspecting the shoes) they looked and felt very cheap - like they were made out of plastic. The nappa leather look and feel more like a old leather jacket and only took a week to break in - the only problem being the backs of the shoes rubbing against my ankles...the shoes were a huge investment, but I'm glad I made it and I hope they last a while...regardless, I'd easily buy another pair - absolutely no other shoe looks this cool and represents the real 'me'. So glad to find shoes that are tough but also can be worn in any and every possible situation, without having to go down the dreaded, nauseating 'preppy' loafer route! So if you're worried about buying some current Doc Martens, buy the 'nappa' leather and you'll know why people have been wearing Doc Martens for decades!

I'm wearing the Docs right now. They've broken in nicely. I was hesitant to get a non-original pair after going 20 years on my last ones. But these are just as rugged and good-looking and well made as the previous pair. If you're on the fence, don't be, because the new shoes are excellent.

I have been wearing Docs for a while. I owned three pairs while I was a young man living in New York City and then recently bought a pair after a long stint of not owning too many shoes here in Florida. My long lost love has returned! These shoes are awesome. They look great and they feel great! Worth every penny! I highly recommend them!

Finally treated myself to a pair of Docs after years of not having them. The smooth finish is less casual than I was expecting and they need a bit more time to wear in, like a pair of jeans, they get better with time. Included was an extra pair of yellow laces which was a nice surprise.

Longest lasting shoe - After staining the yellow stitching and the sole black, this shoe works for dress and walking. My last pair lasted for four years of heavy use and still looks presentable.

Best shoes in the world ! I first saw DR Martin shoes in England. That is when I my love for this product started over 35 years ago. I still have the brown oxfords. I have three other pairs. I find I can walk longer, better balance, no leg pain and they are smart looking. I have M.S. and my DR Martins are important to my every day tasks. Gotta love them.

Chinese are Fine-ese by me - I have read a lot about people's quality concerns now that the shoes are manufactured in China. I've found my recent pair of 1461 oxfords to be the same old wonderfully made and tough as hell shoes. Sure the leather is a bit stiff in week one, but you come to expect that from Docs. I used to get the 1461 original boots and cut off the top two eyelets, making them essentially chukka boots. Never owned a pair of oxfords before and I am really glad I have them now as they are perfect for work, but also great with jeans. Then again, I'm likely to wear them with shorts in the summer as well. Rock On!
